Re: Cruise Control problems

Disconnect battery. Two screws hold it to the handlebar. Find the adjuster on one of the throttle cables (about 6" from the twist grip) and slacken it right off. Disconnect the throttle cables from the twist grip (bit of a fiddle) then unscrew cables from old switch. Remove trim around ignition swit...

Re: New Year's Day ride out

Last few pictures.
I thought about sitting in the sidecar 'til it stopped but in this country there was a good chance I'd have been there all day.

New Year's Day ride out

Had a ride out to an old car/bike meeting in the market square at a place called Stoney Stratford. The place was packed with cars and bike (and people) overflowing the market place into side streets and two other car parks. At 12.00 midday the Town Crier called for engines to be started and reved fo...

Re: You set out to check the tyre pressures and the next thing you know....

Back on the road, hurrah.
Did a twenty mile test ride yesterday and a check of nuts and bolts when I got back. No problems, looking forward to Wednesday's ride out (Weather forecast is good).

Re: 95 rear wheel Cush drive. How much movement?

Mine's only done 40 odd thousand but it does have extra stress and strain of a sidecar to cope with.
My replacement swinging arm has arrived and I've fitted new wheel bearings and the new tyre. I'm stuck now until the new s/arm bearings and Cush drive rubbers arrive (tomorrow I hope).

Re: 95 rear wheel Cush drive. How much movement?

Curses! I ordered new rubbers off M&P an hour ago, never mind.
I'm trying to get everything together for Wednesday / Thursday to get the job finished.
As I'm having to work outside I'm hoping for good (I'd settle for dry) weather for next week.

Re: 95 rear wheel Cush drive. How much movement?

M&P Motorcycles over here sell the rubbers but not sure if they're OEM but I'll give them a go. No one seems to do the inserts, I'll try them in the new rubbers and see how they look. I've ordered a new set of wheel bearings as well. Hopefully after all this I won't have to worry about the rear whee...

95 rear wheel Cush drive. How much movement?

I've just been inspecting the rear wheel Cush drive on my 1995 GL1500 while it's out for a new tyre and swinging arm replacement. How much movement should there be? The rubber blocks are a bit loose in the wheel, the alloy inserts are loose in the blocks and the drive flange is loos in the alloy ins...

Located one in Yorkshire should have it early next week.
The old one came out easier than expected but the condition of it! Honda hang your head in shame.

You set out to check the tyre pressures and the next thing you know....

Saturday I went to check the tyre pressures ready for a ride on Sunday and I noticed the rear tyre sidewall starting to crack. Oh dear!! So I order a new tyre (Austone taxi) and it snowed over night so didn't no ride anyway. Today, now the snow has melted, well most of it (I have to work on it in th...

We've even had snow here with the temperature getting down to -13c in Shropshire.
I don't suppose the snow will last till Christmas but nice while it lasts (if you don't have to travel far).

At least I got to sit on one

Went to the Motorcycle Show at the Birmingham NEC yesterday and there was the new Goldwing creating a mild amount of interest, enough for me to have to que for the pleasure of sitting on it. I watched the Honda bloke demonstrating the controls, press this, touch that, watch the read out, select this...

Re: Cruise Control problems

Thanks for all the info I'm storing it away in case of future problems. Having been in the motor trade for fifty years I sympathise with the technicians point of view but not everyone is rolling in cash. You should always put the choices to the customer, with your recommendations, and let the custom...

Re: Cruise Control problems

The throttle cancel switch was faulty. Honda said do not to take it apart replace it, but as I'd just paid an eye watering sum to Honda for a new handlebar switch I stripped, cleaned and rebuilt it. It now works fine, I can't see why Honda insist on replacement. I tried the bike out this afternoon a...

Cruise Control problems

The cruise control didn't work when I bought this bike, the warning light bulbs are good the system switches on but will not set. Having had to dismantle the right side of the fairing in the fitting of a new r/h handlebar switch I thought it would be a good time to fix the cruise control, looking at...

Re: All you need to know about the new 2018 Goldwing

All we need now is for someone to buy one and give us their honest opinion.
Even if I had the cash I think I'd wait until they've been in production for a while in case there are any bugs that need ironing out.
Nice to see girder forks back in fashion.
