Re: best tire that has long life and best ride

The Michelin disclaimer is usually found in the nearest trash can, as that is all the value it has for knowledgeable motorcycle riders. I know for a fact, that the Michelin Alpin PA3 run flat 195/55 16 is one superior tire on the GL1800. I have one on the ground, and one on the shelf ready to ride ...

Re: best tire that has long life and best ride

For the 1500 there are limited (good) choices. I tried them all on my old '96 before I sold it. I put well over 100K miles on it and chnged tires myself - I NEVER had a delamination of any kind. HEAT build up is the enemy of tires - overloaded causes heat as does under pressure Most Goldwingers do ...

Re: Gl 1800 Seat

My 1800 had 25,000 miles on it when I got it. The stock seat is /was terrible -- 50-75 miles was torture - My 1500's all had a Diamond seat on them - 700 mile days were easy - several times I have done the SS1000 (only registered one time) So I bit the bullet and spent the $1000+ for a CUSTOM DIAMO...

Twas the night before Christmas - Riders Style

From me to everyone - Twas the night before Christmas ,And all through the garage , The rider’s not stirring, he needs a massage The batteries were hooked to their tenders with care With blankets and covers draped over fenders and chairs. The bikes were stood upright; all on their stands While visio...

Valve stems are fairly inexpensive -
And they are fairly important --

SO for ME -- I change them every tire change -

Re: 95 rear wheel Cush drive. How much movement?

When I did mine on my Old '96 it had about 125,000 miles on it.
It made some difference I think and I was glad I did it...
Then I sold the bike and someone else enjoyed the results of the change over.

Might be time to "race test' it... Drive it hard until something breaks - :o - No ..? Then it is time to get into the rear half of the bike -- :geek: :ugeek: Check the driveline for play/slop . . Look for play in the swingarm - Check brake calipers to see if they are not properly installed or attac...

Re: SHINKO TIRES

My buddy ran a set of Shinkos.
After 5500 miles and several slippery moments he changed them out..
I have never seen him happier.

Other choices -
Dunlop E4's
Avon Cobra
Bridgestone for the GL1800

All better tires proven by many riders over many miles.

Re: All you need to know about the new 2018 Goldwing

I am sure Mike o pegs are going to have to design something else new for the 2018's.
I think the crash bars are under plastic and not pronounced like previous Generations of Wing.

Anyone try ZDDP Plus additive ?

Claims to be good for flat tappet cams especially considering the removal of much of this compound from lubricating oils It seems the ZDDP is NOT catalytic converter friendly? It has received decent reviews from conversations on other message boards for use in a Goldwing - I bought some for a trial...

I would have a BLUE one on order ASAP

Unfortunately -- money is an issue... and I will have to stick to my old Orange '02 for the foreseeable future.

Re: Hard Shift 1st to 2nd

If you are making shifts from 1st to 2nd in a turn on the Dragon at slow speeds you are going WAY TOO SLOW The GL1800 has the power (torque) to START in 2nd and pull at nearly any slow speed so using 1st may be a challenge. I do ALL of my parking lot maneuvers in 2nd gear - 1st gear is only to star...

Re: Hot Tires

I've always thought the pressure numbers on the tires were maximum, not recommended pressures. No? It is my understanding that those are Maximum COLD pressures. Tire manufacturers count on the tire increasing in pressure when HOT - A typical rise in pressure of 10% (approx 4 lbs ) is not uncommon. ...

Soooo, has anyone seen or heard anything yet about hydraulic lifters or air filter location? Maybe use the hose to wash off the area of any possible spill...?
Gently and low pressure...just let it run over and clear the antifreeze...?
Unless there are electronics in there to worry about (disclaimer)

Re: All you need to know about the new 2018 Goldwing

Not bashing anyone here -- But I have read a lot of comments about the bike being sportier and not tour worthy. I think Honda is right on the mark here. Ridership is going DOWN across motorcycling in general - Most NEW riders are getting on Sport bikes (crotch rockets) and going all over the place....

Re: Digital speedometer

If memory serves me correctly there are only a few connectors to un-do /re-do. Unfortunately you will have to go back in to find them and re-seat them. The one I usually forget is the radio antenna - but the other 2 connecting the radios and various readouts are under the shroud. And of course the ...
