Re: Voltage Problem ?

Right. Test the battery voltage. A 100% battery should be around 12.8 V at rest. A used one, will be lower at rest. The lower it is, either it's drained, or can't hold a higher charge. If it's somewhere below 12 V, you might not be able to start the bike. Charge or use a known good battery and jump ...

Re: Replacing the stock foot pegs with?

Motorcycle Larry .com http://www.motorcyclelarry.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_3&products_id=382 made lowering brackets for the ST1100 and ST1300 but I don't see any for the GL1500. Pity. Check for the Valkyrie peg relocator kits. You can do a search on the VRCC forums, but here is o...

Re: Voltage Problem ?

I would take a look at the brushes first. If they need to be cleaned for better contact on the rotor, you can have voltage fluctuations like that. Mine did. Mine would fluctuate due to temperature. Cool bike, low voltage, hot bike, normal voltage. It's an easy thing to check and fix, and may solve ...

Re: Looking for voltmeter-USB unit

I had the sealed LED mounted on the dash of my GW, scroll down this post and you can see the type, along with more pics at the bottom. http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,73199.0.html It includes clock and temp. Comes with a cig adapter, so I had one and would unplug it if I wasn't ridi...

Greenwinger, I see you made a decision, but just for giggle, thought I would also write. I noticed you didn't say where/why the $ is coming, but is keeping personal. I'm in the same boat. Re: 90 Degree valve stems $CH.EAP

I bought my first set from the kurveygirl years ago. Waiting to mount on my matching black rim. But what I really like, and have bought and used, is these from Jake Wilson. https://www.jakewilson.com/p/1753/-/162103/Myers-90%C2%B0-Tubeless-Chrome-Valve-Stem The tightening nut is on the outside, wher...

Re: Lithium ion battery

First, I don't think they make an Lithium Ion battery yet for mc, it's an Li Fe (Iron) battery. I bought one for all the benefit you can have for the battery. Couldn't find anything bad about it. Then got the paper work with it, and read all those nice points where not actually real. .1% discharge/m...

Re: New Alternator Voltage Output

I've added a volt display to my 88'. A Battery Bug, now removed, and an LED display. I ran the 2 together for a few trips, reading matched. I liked the LED because I 1st had it in my line of sight so I could read it while driving, over the LCD display of the Bug. My bike did the same, not the same v...

Bump!

Gratuitous post so I'm at least in. :)

What will I do? There isn't one yet for a Valkyrie, and it's only on the Valkyrie I've had trouble shifting.

Re: Free Service Manual Downloads

I have an enjoy a PDF copy of all my service manuals. But, I have also gone out and purchased (new and used) paper copies of the same ones. Something to say for being on the road and not needing power to look over how to fix you bike/car. But also something to say about having a ready access to a PD...

Re: Click no start

If you had 8v on your onboard meter, and read 12v at the battery with a hand held, it seems to me that you have a loose/corroded connection in there somewhere. You still may need a new battery. Remove. Top up. Clean and tighten the connections. They try it again. You showing 14v on a running bike do...

Re: Rear end grind/vibration?

Checking your wheel bearings while the rim is on the bike, you push/pull the tire side-to-side, not just spin the wheel.

I was also wondering brake rubbing also. When you "feel" the grinding, apply the brake. Does it change or go away?

Re: Rear end grind/vibration?

Sorry for your troubles, all of them. Rough. Too bad you're a ferry ride away. I have a tube of the Moly 60 I bought here. Was going to go another way the Valkyrie riders recommend, so wasn't going to us it. Next time we meet up, you can buy it off me. As for the bearings, you don't need to go to Ho...

CutePDF Writer

You use it instead of a printer, and it prints to a PDF instead. Then you can do what you want with the PDFs.

Re: What was your best 1500 improvement?

As already posted, 1st thing EVRYONE should do for safety is install a head light modulator. If more people had them, then more cagers would know what they are, but they still server there purpose. TO BE SEEN!! which means better safety for you, and I see it in the behavior of the other drivers. I h...

Re: Front tire sidewall cracks

I bought the Bridgestone Exedra (?). Saw it for $100 online in the US, with free shipping. Haven't put enough miles on it yet to know how it's doing. I don't like cracks either, but like I said, depending on your ridding, for what I do, I would ride it. But I would also figure out if going back to D...

Re: Front tire sidewall cracks

I have no "expert knowledge" of tires. But I would say any kind of cracking is not good. My first thought would have been that the tires are old, I've seen them that way. Then maybe underinflated tires, maybe just from the flat of the stem failure? Should you replace them? Only you know the answer t...

You mentioned that the brushes where worn, but from your pictures, you have a lot of rust/corrosion on that positive connection on the alternator. How much of a problem do you think that was also in not supplying enough power to your bike?

And where would you mount it, on the modulator, or the head set?

Have you looked your alt over, and see if you still have the capacitor on the side of it? If not, get it.

Re: Drive Shaft Lubrication

Honda is doing away with the moly 60, and moving to a new 70. Their 60 actually wasn't very good. I also believe it's moly on the drive splines, but grease on the end of the drive shaft. Check the manual as already suggested, and read the rear wheel removing DIY, which will/should have all the info ...

Most likely too late, since you are so quick, but you can buy the timing belts from almost anywhere, by buying Gates T275 (I hope I have the correct #, just read it tonight), for $15 ea on Amazon. 2 needed. A lot of DYI on this site, and they are very nice with the pictures. I did my belts without d...

Re: New Goldwing owner with general maintenance questions

Timing belts as already mentioned. As for the seafoam, buy Chevron gas, it has Techron instead. If you don't have any problems, no reason to go there. Forget about the battery. Get a volt meter for the bike, so you can monitor it instead. My alt started to give me trouble, only 61K miles. Took it ou...

AirHawk for GL1500

I'm thinking of buying an AirHawk for my 88' GW. AirHawk gives size of the pad, but not if they fit our bike seat. I take it I need to go out and measure the seat. But what size do I want? The same as the seat, a little or a lot smaller, or larger (not)? For those who have one and use it, what size ...

Re: Battery died while riding. Hard to start

Would having a buzzer on when it is in the ACC position help? I mean, you could add a buzzer to it, but every time you want to run acc for the radio or pumping the shocks, then you'll have the buzzing also. I would get tired of that very quickly. You don't have one in your car, or need one, why on y...
