Re: What's everyone's two-wheeled History?

mc2.jpg OK, so my riding carer started in the bicentenial with my first bike, a 68 puch 175 which i quickly out grew by the end of the summer. next spring i picked up a 64 triumph tt250 which i absolutely hated and traded for a 74 suzuki rm 400. after a few years of inactivity i picked a a real gem...

Re: 82 Engine in an 81 Naked

the differences i know of between 81/82 are: different transmission gearing, rear tire went from 17" to 16", neutral switch moved to inside front transmission cover. could you give more details on the differences you are experiencing? different connectors? wire color?

Re: Blinker tied to cooling fan

the blinkers and the fan are 2 completely seperate circuits and have nothing to do with each other. sounds more like a bad ground or corroded connection somewhere in the blinker circuit.

Re: Bike electrically dead after clutch cable swap...

turn bike to on. test for 12v on red and red/white wires @ the solenoid. the red wire goes to the ignition. if you get 12v @ solenoid, but not ignition switch then the wire has a short somewhere. if you don't get 12v @ solenoid, bypass the main fuse with an inline 30A or the solenoid may be bad.

in the diy section there is a good write up on how to remove and install the brake pedal. look for lubricating rear brake pedal, you'll find it.

Re: Front Tire

if it's a severe drag, check the tiny return port in the master cylinder. it clogs quite easily. otherwise, there is nothing to apply backwards pressure to the caliper pistons other than the rotor spinning.

as long as everything lines up and the handle activates the switch when you pull it, i don't think it cares how it gets attached.

Re: Can i jump start my 1100 using a truck?

as long as the truck is not running you should be ok. i wouldn't make a habbit of it and would suggest investing in a charger/maintainer as well as having the battery tested/replaced.

Re: '83 Aspencade brake switch

the switch is usually held to the bottom of the handle holder with a screw. remove old switch, install new switch, hook up wires to the 2 metal prongs on the switch (i don't think it matters which wire goes where) and off you go.

Re: Tire, rear 83 GL1100

the rear wheel for 80/81 is 17", for the 82/83 is 16". microfiche shows 2 different part numbers for the rotors so my first guess would be no.

Re: clueless please help!!!!!!

it's always better with the proper tools but you should be able to get a close bench sync right on the bike. remove the intake runners. this also gives you a chance to inspect the orings on the bottom. take something soft, like a dollar bill folded lengthwise (no sharp tools) and place it between th...

Re: 83 Aspencade Rotor Bolt Issue

i would definately try to fix that. could lead to catastrophic failure. try to place something behind the bolt to pry it out as you turn it. or pull on it with vicegrips or pliers or something. otherwise it's an engine out job.
