Re: Has your Wing ever left you near stranded....

Had throttle cable break on 82 1100 about 12 miles into my 35 mile commute to work. As I am the guy with the keys and no one could work without me, I had to figure out how to get to work. I tore apart the throttle grip and exposed the end of the cable and used pliers to hold on to it. For the ride h...

Re: Changing Fluid on GL1500 Air Shock

Where can you find the shock boot? I have been on multiple sites and all I can find is the whole assembly for over $200, not the boot by itselft.

Re: Safety riding courses......

I took the BRC course with my son as he was getting his first bike. I really learned alot and feel better with him riding with the knowledge he picked up from the course. I live in PA and ALL the courses are free and you can go on the MSF website and see locations and types of classes and register. ...

Was at show today. Very cool. Got to look at and sit on alot of bikes, New GW, F6B, and Valkerie as well as some other bikes but won't mention any of their names. Never was to the show before and enjoyed myself.
Can't wait until riding season!!

Re: Starting mileage for 2014.....

I have found out that my odometer on my bike must be wrong. I drive 35 miles to work and for some reason on many days the odometer says I traveled 60-80 on the way home. Haven't figured out why yet, hoping to never find out. Have 29 K on my 95 Aspendcade that I bought last March, Only put about 10K ...

Re: power port questopn for my 1998 GL 1500

I bought a fuse block that can be wired for some of the fuses to be hot all the time and/or on with the key on. I also bought a cheap power socket from an auto parts store and wired it up to the pocket.

Re: rear speakers

I got Polk DB 401 speakers off of Amazon and the wiring kit from another site like what is pictured in previous post. I replaced my front speakers at the same time. So much better sound, the front speaker cones were non-existent.

Re: Gas mileage

I consistently get 36-38. I ride 1/2 interstate, 1/2 two lane with a speed limit of 55. Run a little hard, like to get up to speed. Run 70-75 on interstate. Only time got better than 40 mpg was on a rally ride that we didn't go over 45 the whole day.

Re: Ticked off at Honda dealer

Love the Jaguar analogy and like the "inside info" from waituntilthebeep . The biggest issue I had was that the service manager didn't try to give me any explanation, didn't tell me anything they would do in the future if I found better prices on the internet, didn't give me any guidance. He knew I ...

Re: Ticked off at Honda dealer

baumedagn ยป I was trying to build a relationship with this dealer, took it in for its first inspection when I bought it and wanted to keep going back if it was something I couldn't do myself. New to GWs and had a good relationship with the local Yamaha dealer prior to this with my Virago. If the guy...

Re: Ticked off at Honda dealer

Went to local Motorsports Shop, if I buy tires off of him he will do the rear for $50 and the front for $40 on the bike. If I buy the tires from someone else he wants $75 and $65= $140 versus the dealer wanting $300. If I bring the tires and rims in and do the labor myself, he will change the tires ...

Re: Ticked off at Honda dealer

I understand that dealers need to make money, and if I couldn't do the work myself, the $200 might be fair with all the work to get to the tires on a GW. My last bike was a Virago and the Yamaha dealer I went to charged me $40 per tire on the bike, $25 if I brought them in on the rim. I did buy the ...

Ticked off at Honda dealer

Went to local Honda dealer to see what it would cost to change both tires. Quoted a flat rate of $200 for the labor with a surcharge of $100 because I was supplying my own tires.

Re: Fuel Gauge etc., etc.

I always run until the red light comes on and then go up to 20 more miles. Have never run out. Today I was at 203 miles before the light came on. When pushing it that far I make sure that I know where the next station is. If I was in uncharted waters, I would be more cautious. As for actual mileage ...

Re: New front speakers?

I just did Polk 401s front and rear and a fader control. On the front speakers I had to cut the holes out to the ends and the washers were big enough to hold them into place. The rears matched up perfectly. I went from 20 or 30 w output to 120 watts but the radio doesn't seem to have enough output t...

Re: Installing fader

I just installed rear speakers and a fader on my 97. I bought the fader kit from wingstuff.com and the speakers from Amazon. The instructions suggested drilling a hole in the ignition cover, but I mounted mine inside the left pocket. There was plenty of wire to let the pocket hang if I remove it and...
