From reading many great post it seems I need to rebuild the slave cylinder so the MC will shift properly. I have ordered the parts from Old Bike Barn and wantin...

Re: My first bike

1970 or 71 Honda CB 100 that I bought from my neighbor in 1974. We rode it all over our farm for a couple of years and then sold it to my uncle who used it a commuter bike for several years. My Uncle recently passed away and my aunt sold the house. The motorcycle was still in the corner of the garag...

The Randakk carb kit has a a replacement diaphragm for the accelerator pump. I've read it is on the number 3 carb but it haven't pulled the carb to check it out.

How do I know if the acceleration pump is working properly? Can I repair it without disassembling the carbs?

Vacuum line Inspection

What is the best way to do vacuum line inspection. Can I do it with the carbs in place? I have also used Seafoam in the vacuum lines of a jeep to help clean hard to reach fuel system components. On the Jeep I disconnect the line from the brake Master system and slowly poor it in per Seafoam's instru...

Re: Spark plugs

I ride it everyday it's not raining here, in Missouri, to and from work 10 - 30 miles. On average 50 - 200 miles a week. Only sits in January and February. I have had a lot of exhaust fumes in the morning lately but there wasn't any this morning after the plug change. I am wondering about the coils ...

Running without Mufflers?

I have pulled off my mufflers to sand and polish out some rust and in general buff out scratches. Yesterday I wanted to go for a ride so I started it up and literally roared down the highway. By the way an unmuffled boxer motor turns heads cause it is LOUD. Someone said I shouldn't run without muffl...

GL 1200 Registry

Does anyone know if there a registry for GL1200s? One where I can plug in my VIN and come up with a manufacture date. I have an 84 naked and I'm just wondering where mine falls in regards to the end of production.
Thanks

Shifter Swap

I am trying to find the article I read one day, either here or NGW club forum, about GL1200 shifters and big feet. Anyway, it said if you have big feet find a shifter from a GL1000 which has a smaller foot peg. So the other day I'm ordering a used part from Woodbine Cycle Salvage and added a shifter...

Poor fuel mileage

Have a 1984 naked bike and I am getting terrible mileage according to what I've seen here. I am getting about 25 mpg. Had the carbs synced this spring and though there was some adjustment needed it wasn't much. Didn't help. Hat other things should I look at? I think my mechanic likes to set the mixt...

Thanks Admin I appreciate the input. Force I can handle. It's the amount of rotation that is a problem for me.
I will do a little research on master cylinders with larger pistons.

Re: adjusting the foot brakes

I like the idea replacing the master cylinder with a larger one. If anyone has done this is there a suggestion of one from another bike that will work without too much trouble? I am going to order brake lines soon so hope to do the swap at the same time.

adjusting the foot brakes

I had foot surgery about a year ago and they fused some bones in my right foot. Because of this I can't point my toes very far which makes braking difficult. I have removed the brake pedal and rotated it up one tooth but that doesn't seem to make much difference once I start to push down. Are there ...

Re: 84 GL1200 Mod

Hawkeye, I think the Headlight might be easy to find from a bike breaker such as Woodbine Cycle Salvage in Iowa because there wer so many 1100s built as standards with out the fairing. You would have to get the brackets with it to mount it to the forks.

Tire choice for a GL1200 Naked bike

I would like your thoughts on tires. I have a GL1200 Naked bike and need to get a new set for the first time since I bought the bike 2 years ago. It has Dunlop E3s on it now but I'm not finding that one in the proper size (150/90-15) for the rear. There are other Dunlops and Michelins for about the ...

Turn Signal Auto off?

I have an 84 gl1200 naked. Is there supposed to be a turn signal cancel on this bike? I hate looking down and seeing my blinker on and the last turn I did was 10 miles back.
If there is a switch where is it located?

Thanks David

Re: Removing the Throttle Assembly

I did get the replacement bars and have put everything back in place and I'm riding again. I did have a bit of a struggle ballancing the wholething while slipping the assembly back in place. I had to grind the alignment tab down to make it easier to install.
