Re: Average age ?

This will be my last post on this site as I have sold my 1800 and bought a 1997 low mi. Goldwing Valkyrie 1500 touring model . Due to my wife's heart attack this fall I can no longer go on long trips, so I decided to sell the Goldwing 1800 and with the Valkyrie I still go on short 1 day local trips....

Re: Breaking up with an older bike

I had the same problem until one day I opened the garage to find that I had 5 bikes inside and couldn't remember the one I rode yesterday and that is when I started to sell all but one, 1985 GL1200A stayed. I loved the ST1100 for a weekend ride, the VFR1000 for that day when I just needed to get the...

Re: SYNTHETIC ENGINE OIL

I run with Rotella T6 in my GL1800 and on a lot of my trips in the morning are in mid 40s and have never had a starter problem, so I assume the 5W allows it to start cold and the syn. 40 is not a problem hot. Ride safe.

Re: Timing Chain Slack Adjustment

A PastoT said "do not lug the Goldwing engine", what's going on is the engine when lugged, is fighting with its compression stroke because it is not getting enough power to overcome the compression and pull the bike at the same time, always keep it above 2000RPM or you will destroy it, rods or crank...

stuck reverse and cruis buttons fix

I know this is one of the most talked about problemS with the GL1800, stuck cruise & reverse buttons. I have had the same problems as most every one else has and have opened the units to release and lube the buttons. Well today while doing some maintenance on my bike, I checked the reverse and cruis...

You guys must understand that your country's population is less then that of Chicago which has the most killings by gangs in the US. We also have about 20 million illegals and they are mostly the ones killing each other in gangs, and we have a President that thinks that is OK, he only goes after cop...

I picked up mine from the dealer Wednesday, took only 2-3 hours, he told me they are now swamped by calls and every one wants it by Christmas, good luck he said. I was the first one to be done, just luck I called to check on Monday. Merry Christmas to all.

Since I live in the state of insane progressives, the chance of getting a CC is less then Obama resigning tomorrow, I carry any time I go over 100 miles in one direction and as some have said, I'll take my chances with 12 and not be carried by 6. Some things just can not be proved as fact, but I can tell you that older bikes here in So. Ca. that do not have stainless exhaust pipes and we don't start them up and run them until they reach temp., and then shut them off like so many do in the winter in the cold parts, the exhaust pipes are not a...

I have used a Pro-Logic brand tender for years and they are great, when I put the bike away after a ride the first thing I do is hook up the tender, some say it don't need it when the battery is fully charged from a good ride. Here is the best reason to always keep the tender on, the bike I now have...

I forgot to mention that my 1800 is RED . that makes it the fastest so air filter change is really fast too :D :D I have the same model in red and it took almost 2 hr. to replace so the red was slow for me but that might just be mine. The PO I bought it from had never replaced it before and it had ...

Hi Elpebe, A dealer here in the states has a level 1 2015 GL1800 audio for US $19,998. out the door price, that means all tax's, delivery and prep are included. If your guy will give you US $11,000. for your old bike and sell you the new one for US $21,000. out the door, sounds like a very good deal...

Well just so everyone can tut tut me, I am a front braker most of the time even when towing my trailer. It's old school training and I have always done this. Re: Low compression: 115 psi vs. 170 psi

You really should replace the radiator hoses anyway due to the age of your new project. Just be patient and take your time and expect it will take you several months before you can ride it. Any recommendations for those "replacement" hoses? I've not been able to find any OEM ones. Yep, patience is ...

Re: Low compression: 115 psi vs. 170 psi

If compression rely is 115 psi on all 4 cyl. then it should take a long time cranking it to get it to start. Also it would have very low power and do a lot of stalling on take off and MPG would be very low. I would say that the gauge you are using is leaking, if the needle stays at 115 psi until you...

I'm just curious to know why do I see older men on Goldwings?

Re: Questions regarding "older" men and Goldwings

Here is something I learned. When coming to a stop, I get into neutral early; maybe at 10 to 15 mph. Then I coast, brake down to low speed just to the point where balance starts to be a problem. Simultaneously I hit the front brake hard and put down my feet. Hitting the brake lowers the bike making...

Hi JMikeH, when you have the bike front end off the ground, also check the head bearing play by pulling forward on the front rim to ck. if the head bearings could be loose, be careful you don't pull it off the jack or center stand , if loose you will feel a movement of the wheel & forks forward as t...

Re: GW not handling correctly

If your steering bearing is over tightened the bike will constantly wander. Weird but true. I experienced it on my VFR post bearing replacement before I got it dialed in. I had the same problem with my ST1100, the PO had replaced the steering bearing and had them to tight, I found it out by jacking...
