Re: 1999 GL1500SE Brake Rotors

Hi all, Seeing as my baby is my primary ride down here in Florida I can't afford down time of more than a day. My baby in need of brake rotors all 'round and I can't afford $200+ per rotor, so I went looking on Amazon and found these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072ML9RBT/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I2Y1X...

Re: SE or Aspencade SE

In 1996 there were 3 distinct models. Interstate, Aspencade, and SE. To my knowledge, there was no, and never has been such a thing as an Aspencade SE.
I believe the SE was the only model to have 2 tone paint, achieved with decals applied in the center of certain side panels.

Re: 1993 goldwing gl-1500 no power to ign. sw.

I'm surprised you were able to charge that battery. I did the same thing to mine, and the battery was completely incapable of accepting a charge. It was DEAD. The same exact situation and results occurred to my son-in-law's VTX1800. Those batteries don't generally recover from a complete discharge t...

Re: Potential Purchase of 1993 low mileage GL1500 Timing belt Question

According to Gates, they're suggesting replacement every 60K miles OR 6 years, if nothing is specified by a vehicle manufacturer. That's a bit more conservative than the "100K mile Inspection" that Honda states. Considering the potential damage, I'd tend to err on the conservative side, and follow t...

Re: Electrical accessories attachment

Virgil, your right, it is only 5 amps. Thanks ! That negates the original question then. Does this work ? I'll run a 20amp lead from battery to a relay, then to a nearby separate 4 way mini fuse block. Relay actuated from accessory post,( as it's a switched live). Then I can run accessories all with...

Re: Compatibility and Alternator Question

The OEM alternators will look like the ones posted that have the green colored stator as shown. I believe, and I can't confirm this, that the Japanese (better quality) manufactured units will be identified as such, with "Made In Japan" on the I.D. label. The Chinese versions seem to have no identity...

Re: Are All Gl1500 seats/saddles the same?

I wound up making the same decision as you. I ordered a new seat and backrest from Partzilla a couple of years ago. To my knowledge, the only differences in the seats over the years were color, the inclusion or lack of a zippered rain cover on the main seat rear bumper, and the 1" lower sculpting of...

Re: Opinions On Shell T5

If you're leaning toward synthetic, why not just go full synthetic with the Rotella T6 ?
I use the Mobil1 10w40 bike specific oil. Kinda pricey, but I like its characteristics.

Re: Radio aux. input

Get one if these and use it as your dummy tape cassette. It should be recognized by the player as a good cassette. Wal-Mart should have 2 or 3 versions for $10 or less. Verify it's function before you remove the wire. I've used a couple of versions as they are intended (with the cord as the input so...

To add a video you need to load it on YouTube and then add a link here. Did you check the black and white gear in my previous post. These gears should be in contact with each other, and spin together. yes i did, they are in right place and working... those gears are for the ejecting mechanism only....

Re: aux hook up on GW 1999

I haven't made this modification, but have read a lot about it. If I recall, both wheels inside the tape cassette have to be connected in such a way that if one moves, the other moves. The same as if it still had tape inside. That is how the cassette player verifies that there is no malfunction of t...

Re: What is this?

If you're looking for a "bluer/whiter" light output, most LEDs will fit the bill. They output something in the range of 6000K color temperature. Standard incandescent bulbs are in the 3400K range. HID's are probably somewhere in the 8000K range, producing a blue looking light. I suspect most folks t...

Re: What is this?

Good deal. Now I need to find some LEDs to fit it. This 90s headlight is a bit underwhelming. If you are still running the OEM Honda bulbs in the main headlight, you could certainly do yourself a favor, and upgrade to a standard 9003 H4 headlight bulb. The factory bulbs were 45/45W each. A standard...

It's a mounting bar for driving lights.
Saves you about $50 if you plan on adding some lights, LED or otherwise.

Hi Blue, I am finally getting back to the bike. Had some other issues and had planned to work on the bike yesterday afternoon but went out to the truck and found my right passenger window bashed in. Was that tire out of its date range ?
Just curious what may have lead to such a failure.
I use the OEM Dunlop K177 tires. On my second set. They perform for me. The weight specs are less than others.

Re: Shifting my goldwing

A while back, I installed the shift pivot that is talked about on these pages. During that install, I discovered quite a bit of "slop" or looseness in the shift lever. It was responsible for much of the shifting issues I was having. The shift pivot is definitely an improvement, but before that, chec...

The bottom bracket is from a Wingleader Drag Specialties back rest. I think you'll find none of it is available anymore, except maybe used on Ebay. http://goldwingdocs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18923 The other is for arm rests. Probably these. But, the pieces you have are probably the least expensiv...

Sounds like only a couple of possibilities. If the bike were laid down recently, oil may have made it's way to the hose. Or, it has been serviced, and it is over filled. My best guess.
