Re: Arrowhead Alternator

The rubber parts are called dampeners. They dampen the connection and vibration between the engine drive mechanism, and the alternator drive paddles. They should ideally, be replaced with a new alternator. You could probably forgo the replacement for right now, but order a set and install them soon....

Re: 89 GL1500 Carb synchronization

This is the tutorial I followed http://www.goldwingfacts.com/1500balancecarbs.htm I got one of these. Not too pricey. If your plugs need changing, do it before synchronizing. https://www.amazon.com/AlphaMoto-Vacuum-Carburetor-Synchronizer-Cylinder/dp/B004MSJ7C8/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=15...

Re: Ethanol! Yes or No?

I've been using non-ethanol gas for about 4 years in my 1997 GL1500. My reasoning was simply an aversion to putting alcohol in a 1997 vehicle, given it's corrosive, hygroscopic, and solvent nature. I run blended when I have to due to availability problems, but I'd say 95% of my fuel is alcohol free....

Re: WTB: GL1500 fairing deflector screw caps

I too, lost one of those things a few years back, and paid the ridiculous price to replace it. And yes, it doesn't hold itself in place very well, and is guaranteed to go missing again in the future if you don't use something to keep it in place. I found a gooy, sticky, rubbery tape, much like the s...

Re: gl 1500 gears

I've seen quite a few comments over the years regarding clunky shifting on the 1500s. Mine is a little such, but totally liveable. As shift smoothness is effected by engine oil, I finally settled on Mobil1 10w40 bike oil, after testing a few synthetics, as i am partial to synthetics. But, over the y...

Re: OIL TASTING

Being one of those old coots that has done some dumb stuff, I can tell ya that starting a gasoline siphon the good old fashioned way (sucking on the wrong end of a tube full of gas), leads to a mouth full of gas about 40% of the time. If you ever got even a tiny, tiny sip of that stuff in your mouth...

Re: ethanol fuel stabilizer

Haven't heard of, or used it, until I just looked it up on the web. From their description, it sounds more of a fuel system cleaner than a stabilizer, and no statement of its stabilization effectiveness. What were you trying to accomplish ? I have used Sta-Bil brand fuel stabilizer in both the Stora...

Re: GL1500 Water Pump

It is my understanding that the first 5 numbers are the actual part number. The following 3 numbers specify the vehicle it was first used on. The final 3 numbers are differences of suppliers or production runs for the same part. If you click on the part numbers on the Partzilla website, it will disp...

I guess I wonder whats wrong with the one you have ? People have soaked them in Seafoam and blown out the passageways to bring them back to life, if yours seems to be clogged in either the pressure of vacuum mode. Otherwise Partzilla has them for a bit less. https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/honda/m...

Re: LED light bar

Hello all, Has anyone mounted a LED light bar underneath the chin fairing on their GL1500? I've got a 2000 SE and have been looking at 1500-2500 lumen light bars that would tuck right under there and wire into the high beam circuit. Has anyone done this yet? In the region below. https://www.superbr...

Blue, Thanks for the great info. I am going to order the 95 amp. I can only seem to get the standard delivery which is 10-17 days from now. Do you know if there is a way to have it shipped sooner? I clicked on the learn more under the Lactical side and it tells me to select a shipping speed, but I ...

Re: LED light bar

I have EXACTLY the same setup as in your picture. I got the bar from Show Chrome. I had to call them to order it separately without the Halogen lights that they usually sell with that bar. All I wanted was the bar. I think it was about $50. Kinda pricey, but pretty good quality, and keeps its looks ...

Re: Arrowhead Alternator

From a quick search, it looks like most Arrowheads are 40A like the OEM unit. They appear to have a higher output (90A) unit, listed on Amazon, and sold oddly enough by Lactrical. I definitely would go with a higher than 40A unit. Mine is an 85A Lactrical, and I'm very happy with it. The 85A and 90A...

Re: do I have a dead battery or ?

If you have a VOM that reads 12.? V unloaded, and it then reads 4V loaded, you have a bad battery. You are reading at the battery posts I assume. It would not be the first time a battery was declared GOOD by a auto parts jockey, with questionable skills and a more questionable testing device. 4V is ...

Before going full tilt, I'd probably bleed and flush the system again, as you did in 2015. It's about due, and may clear up your issue before rebuilding everything.

Re: Bike will not start

Have you verified that the petcock is actually the problem ? If it's removed from the equation, does the bike then start and run for an extended time, with no issues ? Have you vacuum tested the petcock with a vac tool ? Have you tried actuating the petcock with the vac tool to simulate operating co...

Re: Bike will not start

Given the fact that all issues before this seem to revolve around gasoline supply or delivery, I would first check that the fuel pump is running with the key on initially. As I recall, you have an '88, so it should be controlled off a relay whether the engine is cranking or not. It may only be for a...

Re: Bike keeps stalling

So I did another test. I started the bike again running at 2K rpm. Voltage seem to stay constant at about 1278. A few minutes later I turned off the choke and let it idle at about 900RPM. The initial voltage was 1203. After letting it idle for 5 minutes the voltage dropped to 1179. I then turned on...

Re: 89 GL 1500 starter magnetic switch B help

I've only seen a few door "actuators", as I believe they are called, and the ones I've seen are actually little motor drive mechanisms, not solenoids at all. The ones I've come across are actually gear driven. For years, I thought they were solenoids as well, but when I had them added to a couple of...

Re: 89 GL 1500 starter magnetic switch B help

On the left is the original B switch an on the right is a brand new selonoid from 2001-2005 Goldwing that appears almost identical besides one minor problem. The wires seem reverse, I'm unsure what is in the selonoid so I'm not sure if I should connect it as is or color coat matches. My gut tells m...
