Re: aux hook up on GW 1999

To add a video you need to load it on YouTube and then add a link here. Did you check the black and white gear in my previous post. These gears should be in contact with each other, and spin together. yes i did, they are in right place and working... those gears are for the ejecting mechanism only....

Re: aux hook up on GW 1999

I haven't made this modification, but have read a lot about it. If I recall, both wheels inside the tape cassette have to be connected in such a way that if one moves, the other moves. The same as if it still had tape inside. That is how the cassette player verifies that there is no malfunction of t...

Re: What is this?

If you're looking for a "bluer/whiter" light output, most LEDs will fit the bill. They output something in the range of 6000K color temperature. Standard incandescent bulbs are in the 3400K range. HID's are probably somewhere in the 8000K range, producing a blue looking light. I suspect most folks t...

Re: What is this?

Good deal. Now I need to find some LEDs to fit it. This 90s headlight is a bit underwhelming. If you are still running the OEM Honda bulbs in the main headlight, you could certainly do yourself a favor, and upgrade to a standard 9003 H4 headlight bulb. The factory bulbs were 45/45W each. A standard...

Re: What is this?

These should do a good job for you. I have another variation of these, and they have been going strong for 3 years. Don't let the price fool you. These are nice, well made lights. https://www.ebay.com/itm/FS-2-x-Light-Bar-4-LED-18W-Spot-Motorcycle-Work-Off-Road-Fog-Driving-Cree-SUV/201316754745?rt=n...

Re: What is this?

It's a mounting bar for driving lights.
Saves you about $50 if you plan on adding some lights, LED or otherwise.

Re: Arrowhead Alternator

Hi Blue, I am finally getting back to the bike. Had some other issues and had planned to work on the bike yesterday afternoon but went out to the truck and found my right passenger window bashed in. Not fun. Fortunately there was nothing of value and noting was taken. I have a question about the fu...

Re: best tire that has long life and best ride

Was that tire out of its date range ?
Just curious what may have lead to such a failure.
I use the OEM Dunlop K177 tires. On my second set. They perform for me. The weight specs are less than others.

Re: Shifting my goldwing

A while back, I installed the shift pivot that is talked about on these pages. During that install, I discovered quite a bit of "slop" or looseness in the shift lever. It was responsible for much of the shifting issues I was having. The shift pivot is definitely an improvement, but before that, chec...

It looks like the setting is 0-57psi, unloaded, on the center stand. There is no spec for a loaded pressure.

Re: Help with id of brackets- bike bought used from dealer

The bottom bracket is from a Wingleader Drag Specialties back rest. I think you'll find none of it is available anymore, except maybe used on Ebay. http://goldwingdocs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18923 The other is for arm rests. Probably these. But, the pieces you have are probably the least expensiv...

Re: Air suspension

Sounds like only a couple of possibilities. If the bike were laid down recently, oil may have made it's way to the hose. Or, it has been serviced, and it is over filled. My best guess.

Okay got it. So I can either cut the alternator wire and put a matching plug, or cut the plug coming down from the bike and replace it to match the alternator. Thanks Blue. Sorry for all the confusion. Correctomundo ! The Cyclemax link shows a batch of the white plug sets you need. Well, you actual...

Re: Arrowhead Alternator

If you followed the wire from the plug on the back of the old alternator, up into the bike, you would find the plug that matches the white 2-pin (with only one wire) plug on the end of the new alternator wire. Either way, those are the wires that need to connect by whatever method you choose.

Re: Arrowhead Alternator

The rubber parts are called dampeners. They dampen the connection and vibration between the engine drive mechanism, and the alternator drive paddles. They should ideally, be replaced with a new alternator. You could probably forgo the replacement for right now, but order a set and install them soon....

Re: Ethanol! Yes or No?

I've been using non-ethanol gas for about 4 years in my 1997 GL1500. My reasoning was simply an aversion to putting alcohol in a 1997 vehicle, given it's corrosive, hygroscopic, and solvent nature. I run blended when I have to due to availability problems, but I'd say 95% of my fuel is alcohol free....

Re: WTB: GL1500 fairing deflector screw caps

I too, lost one of those things a few years back, and paid the ridiculous price to replace it. And yes, it doesn't hold itself in place very well, and is guaranteed to go missing again in the future if you don't use something to keep it in place. I found a gooy, sticky, rubbery tape, much like the s...

Re: gl 1500 gears

I've seen quite a few comments over the years regarding clunky shifting on the 1500s. Mine is a little such, but totally liveable. As shift smoothness is effected by engine oil, I finally settled on Mobil1 10w40 bike oil, after testing a few synthetics, as i am partial to synthetics. But, over the y...

Re: OIL TASTING

Being one of those old coots that has done some dumb stuff, I can tell ya that starting a gasoline siphon the good old fashioned way (sucking on the wrong end of a tube full of gas), leads to a mouth full of gas about 40% of the time. If you ever got even a tiny, tiny sip of that stuff in your mouth...

Haven't heard of, or used it, until I just looked it up on the web. From their description, it sounds more of a fuel system cleaner than a stabilizer, and no statement of its stabilization effectiveness. What were you trying to accomplish ? I have used Sta-Bil brand fuel stabilizer in both the Stora...
