Re: Suggestions on fixing my screwup

Is the backfiring coming from one side or both, it will tell you if the crank is out or just one of the cams. I reckon it has nothing to do with timing marks out of alignment. Just to say it has been done if not, turn the crank until the cam marks both line up at least 5 times, each time check crank...

Re: Suggestions on fixing my screwup

Post some close ups of your 3 timing marks.

Strange, one tooth out and easy to see the timing marks would be way off.

Re: Hard Shift 1st to 2nd

I hoped for the same thing James, but I knew in the back of my mind it was not. In a while I will post a pic of the selector drum with the track edges worn at the bends, this is where the gear changing problems start between engaging and disengaging the clutch. Mine is ok, but I had no problem chang...

Re: Hard Shift 1st to 2nd

Hi Wingrider. When I bought my 2002 in 2013 at 6,900 miles. I discovered when changing from 4th to 5th, after releasing the clutch, acceleration would be normal, then suddenly between 1 and 3 seconds later there was a metal on metal snatching sound and sensation, as if a gear crunched or slipped, as...

Re: Progressive 412 shocks

I had progressive fork springs and 412's on the rear of a 1500 solo, and have progressive fork springs and 412's on the rear of my 1800 Monarch trike, I weigh around 12st, only rode/ride two up a few times a year with a live pillion. Don't think this counts. JfFknWY.jpg The 412's made a huge differe...

In for a penny in for a pound

or 3,000 give or take a few quid. So, I started off by putting the finishing touches to the DRL's iOONwtw.jpg Then I finally decided to fit the long awaited port tubes to the topbox/subwoofer 81sREL0.jpg Ended up with a garage full of this. GvmvI4V.jpg and this viYgCb4.jpg Reversed the rad fans. Eng...

Re: How cold will ya'll ride?

I ride for the pleasure of riding, and if I'm not enjoying it, what's the purpose? About sums me up. Like Viking, I am not as bulletproof either, and it takes me toooo long to wash the cars and the GoldWing. Apart from that, being retired every day is Sunday, and I have every day from April - Octob...

You have to remove the fairing, they are secured to the fairing from inside with self tapping screws, the plastic mesh grilles are fixed to the radiators.

Re: Riding a wing on grass

Grass is fine, even when soft and wet, you would be surprised. it is when you are coming back out and vehicles after the winter/show etc, have created a 20ft mud patch at the entrance, that gets your adrenaline pumping.

Re: 2018 GOLDWING SPECIFICATIONS

While agreeing with what everyone has said, just one of the things I would like to add, is that it is everything I expected it to be, cheap Mickey Mouse bleedin rubbish, compared to what it should be. I have been a biker for 43 years, like WingVetteGSXR, and no doubt many others, I bought my first G...

Only close call or even up close with a deer was many years ago driving my car through a local forest one night, a deer shot across the road in front of me. Ah, just read his post again, all I read was he adjusted them all the way up, did not realise he only used the electronic load adjuster. Anyway, here is a pic of the manual height adjuster, I use a long flexy 1/4" drive extension on a screwdriver handle. XK7UN5g.jpg Hang on, reading it again fully, ...

Re: 1991 Gl 1500 SE Intercom

You will find the loom plugs for the rear speakers and the rear intercom patch lead under the seat, and the front patch lead under the left fairing pocket. Sometimes when you start to take apart to improve and add things, it is a bit like opening Pandoras box. It may be untouched, a 15 year old Aspe...

Has it got extended fork caps Carl. If you look just below the top yolk clamp, you should see the end of the cap. I can upload a pic if you are not sure what you are looking for. My guess is they have not fitted them, although they should when raking the forks, but the extended caps do not come as p...

Re: GL1800 transmission complaints

The day I have been expecting since I bought the 2002 GL1800 trike in 2013 with 7,000 miles on the clock has arrived. The snatching when changing up into 5th it had when I bought it, that never got any worse, threw a wobbly last weekend. Only done 25,000 miles. My guess is it started with very low m...

Re: Left front fork seal

I agree with newday, get rid of the cheap stupid anti dive. I got rid of the linked braking system also. Perhaps I am toooo old school, but who the bleedin hell wants to apply the back brake, and have some numpty design apply ones front brake and stiffen up just one of ones fork legs into the bargain.

Re: 2018 Goldwing Update

Whatever it is, it will not be a Goldwing. More like a Pan 1800, with the cheapest suspension design, in the hands of people who want to build it for a tenner. anyone expecting better, will find if they spend a tenner on design, they will cut a tenner from production. Bleedin cramped as it is, its l...

Re: Synthetic oil or non-synthetic

All my 1500's were happy with any decent 10/40 semi synthetic oil, the 1800 however is a different kettle of fish. Changed to fully synthetic a week or so ago, and I get more of a click than a clunk when at normal temperature. I also only use genuine oil filters,
