Re: Too much oil? HELP wanted

The usual method is petrol will leak from the tank into the carb, overflow the carb (float valves leaking/sticking) and then flow into the cylinder inlet tract, from there it flows past any open inlet valves into the cylinders (usually the left hand side cylinders, as the bike is probably on its sid...

Re: What's this, short aerial ?

without a picture, its hard to say, has the bike got any non-standard electrical items (satellite radio, remote start, etc)? that might give a clue as to what the antenna is for.

Re: Too much oil? HELP wanted

I don't know where everyone is getting the "gas flowing uphill from", even though the gas tank is under the seat, it is still above the level of the carbs when the tank is full, so fuel will easily siphon from the tank through the carbs and into the cylinder if the float valves are not closing corre...

Re: Too much oil? HELP wanted

if gas is in the crankcase, you really just need to perform an oil change, nothing else is really needed. It does sound like the carbs could do with a good clean and overhaul, if it is leaking gasoline through the carbs, then don't forget to turn the gas off every time you stop the engine (until you...

Re: Dual antennas

I think it was always clear that he was doing it for looks, but to get the correct mount I thought he needed to order a CB antenna, however if the 1200 antenna is both a CB antenna and a radio antenna (then it probably only fits on the right hand side), I guess that means there is not a standard mou...

Re: Rear brake and gas mileage

I ride 25 miles each way to work and usually have to fill up between 170 & 180 miles (when the low fuel light comes on), so i can't say if what your getting is good or bad, but it's identical to my 1800, so hopefully we are both getting good gas mileage!! :D

Re: Rear brake and gas mileage

As stated, this is normal, the drive shaft has a lot of drag, which is why the wheel stops turning so quickly. Disk pads will always touch the disk surface, but it should be very light.. What you describe sounds completely normal.

Re: New turn signals, 2 wires for a 3 ping adapter.

usually double filament bulbs have a different mount so a double filament bulb will not fit in your single filament bulb housing!! If it does fit, you are still missing the correct connection at the base of the bulb and the third wire that you need to connect to your wings harness. Basically what yo...

Re: Left front fork seal

As stated, driving on a leaky fork is not really bad for the fork (unless it runs dry, the fork oil not only dampens the fork movement, but also lubricates, and no lubrication is always a bad thing, But it takes a long time to drain a leaky fork through the fork seal!!) the biggest risk is getting f...

Re: Dual antennas

I suspect you might have ordered the wrong antenna.. There is a radio antenna that normally goes on the right hand side (I think!!) and there is a CB antenna that goes on the opposite side. The antennas look very similar but have different mounting hardware (as they go on opposite sides). you probab...

No it's a small rust hole, which has now been patched, just need to order the rotor for safety, now how do I remove the rear wheel on the wing?
If it's anything like my 1800, it is best done with a large amount of explosives!! 😂

Re: 1800 wet clutch

that is correct, but it's a single ball bearing that is pushing against a rod on one end and the clutch plates on the other end. If the engine is just idling, wear should not be an issue!!

Re: 1800 wet clutch

I think you have misunderstood how a wet clutch operates. In a wet clutch oil is NOT pumped through the clutch, the plates just sit in a bath of oil, so for the clutch it doesn't really care if the clutch is engaged or disengaged. The oil just helps remove heat at the point where the clutch is start...

Re: 2014 GL 1800 battery

Batteries can fail very quickly, all your symptoms sound like a dead battery. I use a battery tender and my batteries usually last 5 years, but failing after a year is known to happen, I would try removing the battery, put it in charge for 24 hours and then take it to a garage and load test it, many...

I guess I am just old fashioned, I fitted a GPS to my goldwing, put tons of music on it and connected it to the Auxiliary input on the wing. The GPS navigates and gives directions and plays music just fine, I can select by artist, album, etc, the GPS automatically lowers the music when giving direc...

Re: Progressive suspension upgrades

Not to be negative, but your very statement of set preload to 25 and leave it there, tells everyone the suspension is not working correctly. The standard rear spring rate is too soft, this means the bike collapses under it's own weight and you have to apply loads of preload to try and get the suspen...

Re: Fork oil change

So now you have me intrigued, why do you want to tap and cap the fork cap? I use a large hex key in a 1/2 inch socket to put the cap back on and screw it in, so the button headed bolt in your picture would really mess me up? Intrigued to understand why you did that and how it helps?

Re: educate me on fork oil viscosity please

Best of luck with the fork oil change, remember to put the bike on it's center stand, then jack the front of the engine up so no weight is on the front wheel, before you open the top of the forks to add/drain the oil. :D No idea why the wheel didn't balance, are you sure the tyre was correctly locat...
