Re: Delay going from dim to bright headlights

Even if the light bulb is the light sensor I suspect the unit is defective. I assume if the sensor was behind the panel, it is sitting in darkness, so the modulator should have been disabled and it should switch between lo and hi immediately, the fact it was delayed would indicate to me that it is p...

Re: Alternator Bolt Housing broken :(

what is to stop you running a drill down the threaded hole and coming out the back (assuming the hole is currently blind), then either thread the drilled section and use a longer bolt or if you cant thread that section use a longer bolt with a nyloc nut on the back? The alternator will still butt up...

Re: timming

I answered this in another post, skimming the head to make it flat has no effect on the valve clearances, you set them to the standard clearances. It doesn't matter if the head has been skimmed before or not, what matters if it is currently flat. When you skim the head it does increase the compressi...

Re: head gasket job

when a head is flattened (we call it skimmed) they just remove a small amount of metal from the cylinder head where the head gasket sits, this has NO effect on valve clearances, but you obviously need to check the clearances once you have the engine back together. Just set them to the Honda recommen...

Re: Bluetooth Advice

I started with the sena10's but ended upgrading to the 20's as it allows us to have a larger group of riders in a a group intercom mode. Both headsets worked perfectly with the Freewire and CB. The Sena20S just has more features!! Don't believe anything about the longer range, I can't tell any diffe...

Re: Possible fuel issue?

it sounds like a fuel supply issue based on your description, I would NOT think its a carb issue, I would be checking the fuel tank vent, if it is blocked then you will get the problem you describe, it could also be a blocked fuel filter. My first suggestion would be to get a large can, pull the fue...

Re: Bluetooth Advice

I can confirm the freewire works with the CB, you have to push the transmit button on the handlebar (exactly as you would with a wired headset), when you want to transmit using the CB, but it all works correctly.

My first real motorbike was a CB750FB, loved that bike but eventually sold it to get a Kawasaki GPZ900R which I loved.

Cant help you on a good WEB site for the bike but wanted to wish you good luck.

Re: Cylinder compression

The gauge that you use makes a huge difference, I find pressure gauges with long hoses always read much lower than gauges with short hoses (length of the line from the spark plug hole to the actual gauge), as FlyBoy states, the actual value is not really that critical, it is important to have the sa...

Re: Cornering light

I think if there is any confusion, it is just because the cornering lights use twin filament headlight bulbs. I think we are all talking about the cornering lights..

I don't like the idea of soldering across the terminals because that is more load on the alternator and battery that the rest of the bile really needs. I think you misunderstood, he is only suggesting shorting the pins on the bulb that has a failed filament so the other filament lights up, there wi...

Re: Turn signals quit when brake is applied

Which ground? 99% of the time this is a ground issue, there is the ground connection from the battery negative terminal to the main bike frame, but then there are other ground connections, between the rear top box lights to the bike frame, and the front bike lights to the frame. You don’t say if it’...

Re: Bluetooth Advice

If you fit the Sena freewire designed for the goldwing, then the Sena intercom works just fine for the rider and the CB. I had that on my 1800 and the CB was great, but when traveling in groups, few people had CB’s so we would just create a Sena group and link all the intercoms together. The CB offe...

Re: Bluetooth Advice

Sorry Bryan, I have only used the Sena systems, your cost is about right, for the wing you will need 2 headsets about $500 and two freewire boxes also about $500. The Sena system works very well but it is expensive to kit out a wing with CB access!! I have not tried the Bluetooth J&M setup, but I di...

Re: Power Outlet 2001 1800 GL

You don't remove the pocket, the fuse is located in the fuse box by the main battery. Ie behind the left hand side body panel (under the seat). If you remove the left side mid body panel (the panel under the riders seat) you should see the fuse box just in front of the battery, you can open it up an...

I got a brand new Yamaha Super Tenere ES!! Will get rid of the 1800 wing, it's a great bike but after 10 years of ownership I wanted a change. Loving the Yamaha so far, very different from a wing!! Of course I now have to buy all the farkles (lights, GPS, mudguard extenders, etc) for the yamaha.. Li...

Re: white smoke from the carb intake

I would be running a compression test on each cylinder before thinking of changing a head gasket. It is definitely something that can be done at home, but it’s a lot of work. You obviously realize there are 2 sets of heads (left & right sides) I assume you are only planning to change one side? Is th...

As stated, these intercoms will only pair with 2 other devices, hence my suggestion you pair your phone and another intercom, you have paired with two phones. You will need to drop one of the phones to be able to pair with your Torc.

Re: white smoke from the carb intake

White smoke from the exhaust is usually a sign of water in the combustion chamber (usually a failed head gasket) but on the inlet side is unusual, as stated the crankcase breather vents into the air filter box and admission side, could it be condensation from inside your engine as the engine gets wa...

So obviously there's no stereo on my GL1000. Can I use this to play music from my phone or something? Re: Help broken valve cover bolt gl1100

Most people do not put any type of locking material on those bolts, they just screw them in until tight. It is clear that someone over tightened that bolt and it broke, you will probably find that if you can buy a small left handed drill and try to drill the remaining part out of the engine (use a s...

I am really surprised by the last few comments about this being crap, I have had a couple of units on our dirt bike helmets for over a year, in that time they have been exposed to vibration, water & dirt (and the ground!! A few spills! :x ) and both units have worked perfectly and still work great. ...
