Re: proper vent settings for cold or hot...1990 GL 1500

I see, I have been to Alabama, Fort Rucker near Enterprise. I know how hot the weather is there. I'm guessing for helicopter training. Ft. Rucker is all about the helicopters. Yep, it can get pretty hot here, this time of year especially. It is 95° outside right now as I type this. Often we have th...

Re: Carb removal...AAHHH!!!

Thanks for the follow up. I hate to hear you used the Saber Cycle kits though. They come with lots unnecessary brass and not enough orings to do the job. I've used them before, against my better judgement, and always had problems such as bowl gasket shrinkage fouling the floats on 1000 carbs, improp...

Re: Interior trunk lighting...

I've been looking around for a trunk lid organizer. Can you still fit a helmet in the trunk with that one mounted? Not sure about all the other trunk lid organizers, but with the one I have fitted , even with the packed full pockets and a 3/4 helmet ...... Thanks. I might get that one. I like the f...

Re: Interior trunk lighting...

I use a NC magnetic door/window switch on mine, adhered with some 3M VHB foam tape, tapped into an always hot circuit. I have a strip of LEDs on the back portion of the lid so it shines down into the trunk. I have the same strip of LEDs adhered to inside the top of each saddlebag. No switch. Just w...

Re: Tankbag for GL1500

Just found this forum and thread, registered and am posting a reply. I have a brand new Firecreek tank bag with mounting plate that I have had for years and never used. I listed it locally on Craigslist (Minneapolis) but realize most won't even know what it truly is for a GL1500. Anyhow, if you or ...

Re: Carb removal...AAHHH!!!

Not a good way to check for leaks, imo. I'd put vacuum to it and see if it held.
Odds are the leak is at a connection and not the riser itself.

Thanks Aussie, I actually put new jets in all four carbs. Manual setting recommends opening 1 1/4 turn after installation, should I back them out more?
You replaced the jets or pilot screws?

Re: Remove Front Speaker Grill

Can the speaker grill be removed carefully at obvious attachment points without bending it so it can be re-installed and look good, or does removing it bend it so it will never be straight again? Anyone removed them & reinstalled and have them still looking good? Yes, I have and if your careful and...

Re: Shifting Points

as with any engine thats 30 years old or older, i personally would be a little leary taking the rpm's to the max in fear of the motor exploding unless the motor has been completely rebuilt from top to bottom or has very low mileage on it, but thats just MY personal opinion. yours may vary. stuart. ...

Re: Carb removal...AAHHH!!!

To the best of my knowledge, the altitude compensating air jet controller and carb control unit were only used on the early models. The air jet solenoids on your '93 should be controlled by the ECM. No altimeter involved.

Re: Carb removal...AAHHH!!!

Not sure but I doubt it would be a big deal if it was bypassed if you won't be riding in really cold weather. Is there any reason you want to bypass it? If it is not causing any problems, I would leave it as is. OP said he had a leak there, which I'm guessing is why he's pulling the carbs. Still no...

Re: Fuel Tank Float Replacement Option

They also make "retro" gauges for these to work with however it'll probably work with the current one as well. You might have to use a replacement gauge with this. The resistance is a lot different than Honda's. Quoted from Amazon "Empty - 240 ohms; 1/2 - 130 ohms; Full - 33 ohms" and here's the Ho...

Keep on rocking and pulling on them and eventually they'll come loose. You can give them a spritz of lube from the side, right above the isolators, too.
