Re: GL1100 -choke knob problem

Maybe you need to check at the end of the cable, down where it pulls the choke lever in the carburator? if it is not tightened ,the cable is moving in& out inside the outer cablet without actually doing anything..

yes. I had.. a few months ago. but I can check again.
this not backfire. more like quick pak-pak-pak :) maybe a bit like a harley davidson sound from the exhaust pipes
I will try to record the sound and upload an mp3 audio file (if it's possible).

machine gun sound ..

Hello all I have a a new (to me..) problem and I need some advice. Lately, the bike (1980 gl 1100 intersate )rides well, idles nicely and pulls OK, but while revving it up the bike does not make the nice smooth sound I am used to hear while accelerating. It sounds a bit like a machine gun .. at firs...

OK ! thanks . I hoped so. I understand that the difference between the dot 3 and 4 is the higher boiling temp. of the dot4.

Is this serious? what can be the effect of using the dot4 instead the dot3? do I have to flush the system and...

Re: GL1100 leaning too far on side stand

no doubt that to identify and the problem and fixing it is best, but if the cause is more complicated than only adjusting air pressure in the shocks , like a bent frame pipe etc. there is a solution that I recently saw on a bike: the guy welded an iron oval shoe to the head of a 1/2 (or was it 5/8 ?...

worried..noise from timig belt tentioners?

hey all! in the last few hundred miles I hear a quite loud friction/whstling noise that comes from the timing belt area.the noise comes and goes,it can start after passing a bump or hole on the road, somtimes while turning..and then it goes away, until the next time.. (the bike is a 1980 1100 inters...

Re: Trunk and Fairing Locks will not turn

wingadmin, you may be right about long term maintanance /lubrication for good ,working locks, but to free seized locks I beleive that nothing does it better than WD40.

Re: Winter Storage-should wing be started once in awhile?

In general you should not start the engine unless you intend to take it for a good long ride. When you start the engine you will suffer from condensation inside the engine which will cause the oil to go white and milky, unless you take it for a good long ride, so the entire engine gets good and hot...

Re: Trunk and Fairing Locks will not turn

I had a similar situation with the locks when I got the bike.I sprayed generously WD40 with the red plastic piece of pipe supplied with the can -deep into the locks, repeatedly for a couple of days , and this did the job perfectly without having to take anything apart. (the only lock that didn't com...

Re: GL1100 -choke knob problem

seems that there are some differences in the choke stay mechanism between the 1980 (made in Japan)and the 1981-1983 GL1100's that were made in USA.(as with some other parts) after winadmin's post- I pulled out the choke knob all the way out, grabbed the rubber cap and peeled it outward to find that ...

Re: GL1100 -choke knob problem

ok! that's A nice original way to tackle this issue , but I am trying to learn why this is happening.. When the bike was new (correct me if i'm wrong)i guess you could pull out the choke knob as far as needed, and it stayed there until you pushed it in again .. so i am trying to understand what is t...

GL1100 -choke knob problem

Hi friends.I have a problem with the choke .. when I pull out the choke knob while starting the (cold)engine - the knob does not stay in the desired position - and immediately retracts back in. I've had this situation for a long time, and I dealt with it by using a 1'' long piece of rubber hose that...

Re: Temperature sensor fan switch?

Theoretically you are right - but only assuming that the heat sensors, in all the old goldwings operate the fan at exactly the same temperature, and all gauges are 100% accurate. can we be sure that a bike in which the gauge shows the needle at 3/4 of the white zone, is running hotter than that of a...

Re: Temperature sensor fan switch?

It is not a totally bad idea to add a toggle switch to the fan wiring, even if the sensor unit is working well. if you ride on a hot summer day in the city, standing in lights etc. you might want to manually operate the fan a bit before the needle in the heat gauge goes 3/4 of the way or more toward...
