Re: Alignment

I agree about the rear guards. When I first got the bike, I would walk it a couple of steps when pulling out to keep it steady at slow speeds. (Had done this on many other bikes with no problem) My foot got caught under the rear guard and took a tumble at 5mph. So now I just dump the clutch, hit the...

Re: Short passenger

Bike on side stand. Wife backs up to passenger footrest, steps on footrest with heel, then steps up and back and sits down on the passenger seat sideways. Then swings leg over to sit facing forwards. All this with bike in gear on a solid surface with me standing on same side firmly holding the handl...

Re: High output verses standard alternator

My 1990 SE just died and would not start back. Cruise controls and gauge sights acting funny just before it died. Put new AGM battery in it year before last, always on a battery tender. It built up a little in the 2hours it took me to go get a trailer, but just enough to turn over a few times but no...

Re: Should I Or Shouldn't I? 1995 GW GL1500SE

You have to ride to decide. Ride it an hour or so. Check for over heating, oil level and contamination, coolant level and contamination. If it runs good, handles good, then $2500.00 is a good price.

Re: '93 Handlebar switches replacement

Lighted switches look cool. I even replaced my bulbs with LED's per the DIY section. But I've noticed after that after becoming familiar with the controls, I don't even look down to set cruise, turn signals, horn etc. So I'm not sure it would be worth the trouble for me.

I think bias tires are recommended for the 1500. That's what I put on mine. (Avon Venoms) They handle great.

It's a challenge. Practice is the best teacher. Did mine a couple of years ago, but I would have to start from scratch now to remember where to start.

Re: 94 GL 1500 handlebars" buzzing"

Jamie f, I know it's a lot of trouble, but if you still have it, you could re-mount your old tire and see if it eliminated the buzzing. Then you could be pretty sure something was wrong with the new tire. Or, you could do what I did after not being able to get the hop out of mine after trying to bal...

Re: New tires, balancing beads, front end bouncing

Well here's the latest. Not knowing what else to try, I pulled the wheel Fri. morn to break down and reseat the bead. It popped on and looked great as it had when I originally mounted it. This is my first try with balance beads, so my first thought through the whole ordeal was the tire is out of bal...

Re: New tires, balancing beads, front end bouncing

Still trying to work out my 30mph bounce on a new Avon Cobra front tire. I had the old wheel weights that I removed when I changed the tires and put beads in them, so I tried to static balance the front tire. I removed the brakes and spedo so it would spin freely. There was definitely a heavy spot, ...

Re: New tires, balancing beads, front end bouncing

Fork oil should be ok, changed it about 2 years ago. Also it didn't have the 30mph bounce before I put on the new tire.

Re: New tires, balancing beads, front end bouncing

Thanks for the idea RoadRouge. I can't hear them rolling when I spin the tire, but these beads are tiny and my hearing is not so good. If they were clumped together from moisture, would they eventually dry out and start working? I used a small Porter Cable air compressor to inflate the tires, no dry...

Re: New tires, balancing beads, front end bouncing

I rechecked my mounting and the bead seating. It all looked good. There is a slightly raised ridge on the tire which sits just at the edge of the rim after the bead is set (popped out). It is consistent all the way around. Removed the brake calipers so the wheel would spin more freely. It spun prett...

New tires, balancing beads, front end bouncing

Hello everyone, I need some advice and opinions. Picked up a screw in the rear tire of my 1990 1500 SE about a month ago. Front tire was old so I decided to replace both. Ordered Avon Cobras and mounted them both myself. Not too bad a job, but time consuming, took two days. Also ordered Counteract b...

I'm running 40psi (Dunlop Elite 3) front and 50psi(Avon Venom) in rear. Works great for me on paved roads. But don't exceed max pressure rating on tire.
