Re: 1983 GL1100i Interstate 4Sale Spring, TX

Bike comes with two boxes of parts including the Clarion II radio and antennas. PO had put in an aftermarket car radio and did a crappy job so I removed it. I'll lower the price to $2000 for anyone who answers this post.

1983 GL1100i Interstate 4Sale Spring, TX

1983 GL1100i Interstate for sale. Approximately 71,500 miles (still riding the bike so that is variable). New Dunlops last fall. Carbs rebuilt by Pistol Pete. Re: Looking for good home for my '83 Interstate

No worries. Didn't know if I should post price on the forum. I'm asking $2500 which I know is high but that is negotiable and like I said a lot of expensive stuff done already. More pictures on Cycle Trader.

Looking for good home for my '83 Interstate

I found that work will have me in this RV park in Spring, TX for longer than I had ever hoped. My '83 is with me but it is hard to do even an oil change in an RV park. I am looking for a good home for her and this is the best place I know to find people who understand old wings. All the expensive st...

Re: rear master cylinder compatability

You wish if Honda made a change like that would at least make the part look different. From my research the only difference other than the connection is the bore size. The '82 is 14mm and the '83 with linked brakes is about 15.7mm most likely for the extra volume for the front and rear. Oh well, I'v...

rear master cylinder compatability

I have an 83 Interstate. My rear master needed to be unclogged and probably rebuilt. I was able to find and pick up a rebuilt one on e-bay for an '82 before I realized there was a difference in the lines. The '83 has hardlines and a flare nut to the proportioning valve. Can an '82 master still work ...

Rear Brakes and Brake Pads

Moving my '83 GL100i last evening I noticed my rear brake was dragging and then it locked up. When I checked the rear master I found no fluid. I have not noticed any leaking but I have had the master run dry before and I think it may be from the rear caliper since that has never been rebuilt (the fr...

Re: oil leak timing covers

I had the same issue on the left valve cover. I was not losing oil, just an annoying seep that I thought was the oil seal which I had just changed (just made my riding boots dirty. It's amazing how much mess a half drop of oil can make). Wingadmin gave me the suggestion of cleaning everything up and...

I changed my hoses out with the NAPA hose some time ago, but lately have seen silicon preformed hoses on e-bay. Just curious if anyone has used these.

Re: Changing out headlight to LED

The original bezel was just slightly small, but the one that came with the LED had tabs that were perfect to fold down and lock the light to the bike mounting frame (and it was nice and new and shiny unlike my old one). The extra wire was attached to a 12VDC switched supply and I did hook up the DRL...

Re: Broken valve cover bolt

T-Rat...I got a set of easy-outs with reverse bits from my local O'Reilly auto parts store. I think it was $21 for the whole set. They had individual bits but the set wasn't all that expensive and something I didn't have in my toolbox. Harbor Freight has them as well and I think Sears Hardware has t...

Re: Broken valve cover bolt

Reverse bit was the way to go. Loosened and drew the broken part up flush with the head and then I used an easy out to remove the rest of the way.

Re: Broken valve cover bolt

Thanks for the info. I got a #1 extractor from Sears Hardware, but I'm with you Robert, if it breaks I guess I get to change the head gasket on that side as I'll have to remove and get to a machine shop. I'll either go to Harbor Freight or Auto Zone as get a set of left hand bits. Even if the bit ju...

Broken valve cover bolt

Well there goes a really beautiful day to ride here in Houston. My buddy let me use his garage to replace an o-ring in my lower hose connection to the water pump and also change my oil. We were going to go for a ride to lunch. Got all that done in an hour and the last job was to replace the left sid...

gauge cluster sunshield

Was replacing bulbs on my instrument panel to LEDs and found the lower tabs on the sun shield were broken. They do come up on e-bay every once in a while, but right now only with the whole cluster. Thought I would ask if anyone has one they want to part with or has info on who may have one. This is ...

Re: Changing out headlight to LED

Sorry this took so long. Work and weather stopped me from working on the bike. Anyway, here is the headlight installed and sorry it was a brown wire but it was live with the ignition on. Maybe PO hdd running lights at some time but it sure looked stock. Light seems bright enough and 100% better than...

Re: Carb rebuild recommendations

Pete and Moose did my 83 carbs about a year ago. They found that the PO had made some mods that had screwed up the works and came back to me with some reasonable suggestions to bring them back to spec. I think turn around was about 2 weeks and after reinstall the wing started right up and has been r...

Re: Changing out headlight to LED

Wingadmin, I did read that post, because there were so many choices of 7" LEDs it was getting confusing. The KCs were the most expensive. This one was $119 and had the DRL's. The LED type plastic housings tend to be thicker than the original housing so the chrome bezel doesn't fit (almost but not qu...

Re: Changing out headlight to LED

Sure. Here is the e-bay link. It's a bit thicker than the standard housing but the supplied trim had large tabs that I was easily able to bend over and make work without set screws (although I might add them later if I find the bezel loosening up). I will hook up the DRL LEDs next for added visibili...

Changing out headlight to LED

I changed out my old, original headlight yesterday to an LED one I bought on e-bay. It has built in DRL LEDs that need to be wired separately. I noted when I removed the old headlamp assembly that there was an extra yellow wire with the H4 plug harness (it already has an insulated pin lug crimped on...

Re: Oil Leak somewhere

Found it! It's the valve cover gasket. It must not have seated right when I took it off last to torque the head bolts. It is just a slight seepage. I'll order a new one and replace it since it's probably pinched.

Littlebeaver I've been accused of buying broken things just so I can fix them, so you are not alone. I have an APP on my tablet called iFixit. Re: Vacuum advance canister

Virgil, I have a complete PG with canister that I bought off e-bay some time back when I started to think that I had spark advance issues. It is a clean unit and everything works, but the canister doesn't hold vacuum. You can suck on the hose and the cams move freely, but from a previous thread it s...

Re: Oil Leak somewhere

Thanks guys. I changed the oil seals when I did the head work last year for just this reason. I'll check and see if this one just didn't seat properly and also check the shifter. It is probably like one drop of oil but that can go pretty far in making a mess on your boot.
