Lights Out

'95 SE. Rode to work all was good. Start up at quitting time & No Fuel gauge, No temp gauge, No Position lights & all but the Neutral light are not working. Warning lights don't even do the self test at Key On. Fuses all tested good. Leaves me scratching my head. Fuse that I missed? Relay? Wiring is...

Re: totaled 1994 1500 se

My '90 was totaled about a year ago; rear ended at a light. "Pristine, Excellent, Mint" are all terms "WE" use to describe our bikes. Adjusters will say; if you ride it on a regular basis, it's in good condition. I thought they low balled me on the book value but contrary to what was posted previous...

Re: Cleaning aluminum oem rims

It's been a few years since I did the rim on my '90 which were a total disaster. Nothing seemed to even make a dent in the uglies. Don't remember where I read it but I sprayed it down with oven cleaner & scrubbed it with a scotchbrite pad. I rinsed it well then used a cotton buffing wheel with rouge...

Re: Dealership experiences good/bad recommendations/warnings

Long Island, NY - Cross Bay Motorsports That's my local dealer, only 5 minutes from home; very convenient. But that's where it ends. Went there once & that was enough. It was with my 90 SE. Wanted to find out about routine maintenance, since I just acquired it & didn't know it's history. Spoke to th...

Re: MOTOR OIL

Ditto on Delo After a couple K miles I'll add an ounce or two of Lucas Oil Stabilizer . Smooths out shifting gears. Been using Lucas for almost 100K miles and still on the OEM clutch. I might try that ...... no moly in Lucas. YEP, no Moly or Betty-Lou, Margie, Carbonaro, Cintella or Tricky-Dicky's....

Thanks guys. Holding the clutch in for a few before shifting into gear has made a ton of difference.

Clutch Sticking

On my '95 SE, when shifting into first gear for the first time in the AM; bike lurches forward against the brakes. I did an oil & filter change with Deleo 400. No change. What can be causing the plates to stick?

Re: New GL1500SE owner with a couple of issues

Good Luck with your new to you Wing.

#1. Can't be of any help with your errant wire.

#2. The lines on the tach are : 0 - 500 - 750 - 1000. You are definitely low. Set the idle between the 750 & 1000 marks & you should be fine.

Re: Stuck caliper pins 1990 SE

The pins are threaded. They should be loosened while the caliper is still on the bike; makes it more stable & you can get better leverage. A good hex socket is important to get a tight fit & not ruin the pin. I have cut a piece off an allen wrench & used a regular socket on that. You can try an alle...

Re: Horn Upgrade Fiamm Freeway Blaster

When rewiring for the new horns, do I need to use heavier gauge wire in the switch as well? When wiring the new horns you only need the heavier gauge from the battery to the relay & from the relay to the horns. The factory wiring from the switch to the relay will be sufficient; it only carries a sm...

Tuning CB Antenna

I ordered the correct adapters for the antenna leads. Dug out the old SWR meter from back in the day. Antenna needs to be adjusted. Loosened the two set screws above the load coil but can't get the antenna mast to budge. Am I missing something? I thought loosen screws & slide antenna mast to adjust ...

UPDATE on: Clutch Shot or ?

Disassembled & found clutch pack covered/full of grit. Had a mechanic look at it & confirmed plates & steels were totally destroyed. There was hardly any friction material left. The grit was confusing but certainly contributed to the demise of the clutches. When I was cleaning up the mess in the bot...

Tried flushing & bleeding the system. No help. Removed the slave cylinder, started her up & dropped her in first; nothing, engine continues to idle normally. Clutch is toast.

Re: Clutch Shot or ?

Thanks for the replies. According to the PO, the fluids were all done last year. Last nite I tried bleeding the system. Clutch lever feels the same thru its travel, no change in the firmness. I had the bike up on the center stand; started in neutral, pulled in the clutch, put it in first, released t...

Clutch Shot or ?

1995 GL1500 SE 103,000 miles. Coming home yesterday, got stuck in heavy traffic, temps in the 90's. Clutch felt like it wasn't disengaging fully. Bike didn't seem to roll freely with the clutch pulled in. Had to rev the engine higher to get her moving. Engine bogged down & stalled. Restarted, no pro...

Thanks for the instructions. On my bar the holes don't go through, they are threaded but closed on top. Guess I'll have to drill through to mount lights.

Driving Light Bar

I picked up a '95 SE that has a driving light bar mounted under the cowl. Similar to this one from Show Chrome: B2-422X.JPG The threaded mounting holes for the lights seem to be 9/16"; large for any lights that I have looked at. Anyone have this bar, that can tell me if I'm missing something in orde...

Re: carb & injector cleaner

The only stupid question is the one that isn't asked. Everyone will have a different opinion on additives. Seafoam & Chevron Techron are 2 of the most popular. I've used Lucas fuel treatment in the past. One that has been around for many moons is Marvel Mystery Oil; added to the fuel on a regular ba...

Re: Intercom noise

Last year I shopped by price as well; didn't need all the bells & whistles as well as I wasn't sure if the better half was going to get into riding. I got the J & M performance series when they had a sale. It took a little wiggling of 25 yr old connectors on the bike but got them working just fine. ...

Re: GL 1500 arm rests

The right & left pockets need to be removed not the trunk. There are 3 screws in the trunk that hold the pockets to the trunk. Then you'll have access to the antenna mounting bolts. Instructions from Show Chrome site:
