Re: Hard Shift 1st to 2nd

I ride about 10K miles per year on my GW. I also have a '99 Yamaha XV1100 Virago. It has the clunk shifting down from 2nd to 1st. It uses the same transmission as the early Stars. I have a buddy that has a XVS1100 Star Classic (2005), it has the same clunk. I will be coming down to Florida for the w...

Re: Hard Shift 1st to 2nd

How much do you ride? I find there is a little clunk in down shifting to the lower gear and there is also some noise when shifting from first to second. I think its normal, had the same thing with my 1500.

Re: Aftermarket 90* valve stems

I have had these on 3 Wings over the past several years without any problems. I use the Cyclemax units. The reason I installed them was to accommodate Tire pressure sensors.

Re: The Invisible Motorcycle

As previously stated, alternating left to right is reserved for emergency vehicles in most states. Check you local laws and and the laws of any state or province you plan to travel in before setting a unit up to alternate.

Re: Garmin Zumo 395LM Motorcycle GPS

That's correct. This is the power wire. There is a plastic cover that goes over it both when it is on the mount or off. Make sure you use it to prevent dirt, etc getting into the power connection. The screw is very small, make sure you don't lose it.

Re: Garmin Zumo 395LM Motorcycle GPS

I think that is understandable! I move my Zumo between bikes and sometimes a car using the additional mount.

Re: Garmin Zumo 395LM Motorcycle GPS

It can be unplugged and the mount remove by unplugging all the wires. I can send a pic of how its set up if you wish, but can't do it tonight....

Re: GL1800 trys to stall

I found out a long time ago that using the recommended amount of Seafoam doesn't do much if any good. Using it as I described above really works wonders. I have been using it in both my bikes and cars for years and it does a great job of cleaning up dirty carbs and injectors.

Re: GL1800 trys to stall

Fuel system cleaner may indeed help the stuttering. Get a can of Seafoam and use twice the recommended amount for a few tanks. If that corrects the problem, As far as the whine, the newer 2006 and up have a heavier alternator. A lot of them whine at higher rpm's. My 2012 sure does. Seafoam may inde...

Re: GL1800 trys to stall

My 1500 did the same thing when I first got it and the problem was a leaking vacuum line. Good luck in locating the problem.

Re: Garmin Zumo 395LM Motorcycle GPS

I have a 390 and have a friend with the 395. The latter is much easier to program due to the change in the keyboard... Other than that, they are about the same unit. Both will accept Garmin TPMS sensors. I find they both work very well. The 395 is an updated version of the 390. IMHO, well worth the ...

Re: Overtightened rear wheel nuts

If the lug nuts you removed were over torqued, I would have replaced them with new ones. If they had been torqued correctly they should have released normally. Normally isn't necessarily easy. Torqued to 80 lbs and in a bad position, they can be difficult to remove. Not so bad if you have another p...

Re: Fresh Plugs

My 1500 always required a little choke to start in the morning regardless of temperature outside. But a 2 minute warmup and it was ready to go. It had original plugs in it, so I changed to Iridium's. It may have helped some with fuel economy, but the morning start up still persists. BTW: after warm ...

I am missing something here.... I have a bluetooth headset in the helmet I use on my Virago to hear directions from my gps. Re: 5W-20 oil

I use 5w20 synthetic oil in my Jeep GC. The oil has friction modifiers in it so it is not advisable for wet clutch systems. I use 15w50 Mobil 1 full synthetic in my 1500 for the past 3 years with no problems. It does not have friction modifiers in it. Not MC Specific oil. I get it at Walmart. I will...

Re: Fuel mileage

On my 1500 I get about 35 pulling the trailer and have gotten 50 riding in the mountains at slower speeds. 42=45 freeway riding. My 1800 gets about 38 pulling the trailer and 42=45 on the freeway. Leaving on a 2 week trip pulling the trailer next Saturday. I will get a better idea about trailer mile...
