Re: Jacking Wing with Harbor Freight Lift

Love that lift!

I don't know if I will ever be that comfortable lifting it but it is good to know and was definitely an interesting video.

Thanks for the information.

Re: Jacking Wing with Harbor Freight Lift

Is that safe to do?

I have never used a jack until this one. I could never figure out how to lift it in what I considered a safe manner.

So it is a balance thing. Lift it and then strap it. I'll have to work on it.

Thank you.

Re: Jacking Wing with Harbor Freight Lift

I know this is an old posting but there is one thing I have never found listed anywhere and would like to find out opinions or the correct way to do it. My son received a gift and bought the Harbor Freight lift. Just the small one that centers under the bike. When lifting it, is it supposed to be st...

Re: Why did he crash ?

I think that is part of the reason I had a concussion. The helmet fit looser than my new one. It may have allowed my head to shift inside and hit multiple times. I don't know this for a fact and never will. I was much more careful sizing on my new helmet and it doesn't shift like the old one did. I ...

Re: Do you wear your " Helmet "

I haven't really seen the no tether type vest or jacket. I'll have to look more into that and see if I have just been unobservant. I wouldn't mind the no tether but I will experiment and see if I can handle the extra gear in hot weather before I go further into it.

Re: Why did he crash ?

I guess I'll throw my 2 cents in. I experienced my first crash in June 2017. I am self taught and friend taught (here's the throttle, brake, etc...) back in the mid 70s, got out for about 20 years and now back in. Once I could remember most of the crash I was able to analyze more of it. The problem ...

Forgot to mention, I am looking at the high vis.

The Hit Air Motorcycle air bag vest. I'd post a picture but don't have any idea how to do that. The link is:

Re: Do you wear your " Helmet "

I know what you're saying. I have no desire to load up on stuff to wear but I am considering it because I think it might be a valuable piece of safety equipment. Maybe I'll decide it isn't but I'm going to look into it either way. The one I am most interested in isn't the most expensive or the cheap...

Re: Do you wear your " Helmet "

After my first accident in June of last year, I really appreciate the value of a helmet even more. I am a firm ATGATT and nobody rides with me without the helmet. The pictures clearly show where my face would have been if it hadn't been for the helmet. The entire left side would have been solid road...

Re: Caution-Kids Present

I can't say I'm complaining. I love the ride, the feel, the cornering. I haven't gotten the hitch on yet to try pulling my Bunkhouse but I expect it will be really nice to pull with that bike. I have the 1980 and 1982 up for sale. Both are running great. Sitting the winter out on a charger/maintaine...

Re: Proficient Motorcycling: The Ultimate Guide to Riding Well

I am in the process of reading it. Interesting that Motorcycle Consumer News was his current venue and that he is now retiring. I am reading it through slowly and picking up all I can. I stop and reread a section to make sure I understand. Going to buy the paper copy for my friend (just getting into...

Re: What Trailer can i really tow?

I haven't read all the answers but here is my experience. I bought a 1998 bunkhouse trailer and towed it behind my 1982 GL1100 Aspencade See my avatar or pictures. I was concerned about it's ability to tow but was assured by the previous owner that my bike was more than capable of towing it. I bough...

Re: bunkhouse or time out?

Just saw this thread so I'll add my opinion. I always remember the old saying in doing this, an opinion is worth what you pay for it. I looked at a great many trailers when I first considered buying one. The Lees Ure Lite caught my attention for the speed of set up. It is quick. But then I ran into ...

Re: camping

I am the exact opposite of Dusty Boots. I have always tent camped on my motorcycles but just don't feel as comfortable on the ground or getting up and down like I used to. I decided to look into a camping trailer because I liked the look of comfort that was available. I looked hard at lees-ure lite ...

Just a word of caution that your statements can come back and haunt you. My son and I buy older motorcycles and fix them up for riding or selling. Lots of fun and we look for deals. Bought a 2000 Suzuki Katana 750 for a song and a dance and my son fixed it up to ride it. Being an older bike he was d...

Trailer Electrical Receptacle

How have you attached your receptacle to a 2006 GL1800 for supplying electricity a trailer light system? I'm not keen on drilling holes in plastic due to the possibility of getting a crack or damage due to the added weight of the receptacle. Could I get some ideas, maybe some pictures? I have been l...

1982 GL1100 Aspencade

1982 GL1100 Aspencade with 50,205 miles. Located in Denver, Colorado. Asking $2,200.00. This has been my main bike and has taken me on 3 vacations of 2500 miles or more each the last three years. I've owned it for 4 years now. Custom paint mural added. When I got the bike it had been sitting for a n...

Re: Trailer picture thread

First trip with a 1998 Bunkhouse trailer behind my 1982 GL1100 Aspencade (Up for sale now). This was our third attempt to take this trip and we got half of it done. In Richardson Texas we got clobbered with high wind, heavy rain, lightning and thunder. We slept warm and dry and loved every minute of...

Re: Share some camping pictures new or old?

I was just looking at your photos and noticed the lights hanging from the supports. They look to be wired into the trailer if I see it correctly. What lights are you using and how are you powering them? I'm assuming you remove them before taking down the trailer. If I am around power, the previous o...

Re: Camping trailer opinions

Ok, it must be the pole for the add-a-room. There is only one but I haven't put that up yet. My bunkhouse is a 1998 so it doesn't have any awnings on it and no end window. And currently it's down for repair. Somehow I ripped it near one of the brackets. Get that done in a couple weeks so I can take ...

Re: Camping trailer opinions

SidecarMike,

The extension of the door, does that use two fiberglass poles or just one? I have one fiberglass pole I am still trying to figure out where to use. Now I am thinking it goes on the door when it is put up like you show in the last photo. Is that it?

Thank you.

Re: Do you wear your " Helmet "

When I started out, my first bike was a 1970 Yamaha xs650 partially chopped with Hooker Headers on it. Since the baffling was gone, they were loud. I hadn't read much yet and thought my helmet was adequate protection against hearing loss. A couple years later I had subscriptions to a few motorcycle ...

Re: Do you wear your " Helmet "

I just put in my little story about ATGATT and I always wear a helmet. Colorado doesn't require helmets but I do! Under Goldwing Chat, look for Careless (Posted today 6/14/2017) and you'll read about my little mishap. Yes, I was wearing my helmet thank goodness. Mild concussion and retrograde amnesi...

We all know how we have to pay close attention to traffic and such but I had a short moment checking traffic and ended up clipping my son on his bike. Luckily I was the only one that got any real damage. We were making the merge onto another road with my son in the lead. I checked for traffic, one S...
