Kuryakyn trailer relay

Had my trailer relay put on by the dealership thinking best way to do it. Didn’t realize it’s as easy as it is to actually do it. Well, hooked it up to my trailer and nothing. No lights would work. Looked at the connection, tested for power, tested that the plug was sending a signal. Couldn’t figure...

Re: Vertical Trailer Hitch Problems

I watched that video and they also hook it up differently but then it's supposedly for a different bike altogether. They use the rear crash bar bolt to hook up to. I did ask about it and was told that other bikes use that arrangement. My dealer helped me and got in touch with them and they are sendi...

Re: Please tell who or what made you buy a Goldwing

That sure brings back memories! My 1970 Yamaha XS650 was a rattler! Ride it long enough and your butt gets numb, your hands get uncomfortable but damn it was light nimble and fun! Rode it for about a year when the 1977 Yamaha XS750D came out. Three cylinders, shaft drive, fairing and saddlebags. Onl...

Re: Vertical Trailer Hitch Problems

You misunderstand. If I order the wrong part, it's my fault. It's my expense. Actually happened with ordering tires at a shop. I paid and took them even though they were wrong because I ordered them. It was my fault that I ordered the wrong size tires, not the dealer. Now we have a dealer that sells...

Re: Vertical Trailer Hitch Problems

That's the problem. I have NO clearance. The vertical part pushes my fender out about 1/4". I may just grind things down. I don't have a lot of time to play with. Three weeks I leave on vacation. And my trailer is going with me! The manufacturer told me it was the correct part but I explained I foll...

Vertical Trailer Hitch Problems

Hi All, This pertains to my 2006 GL1800. I bought a vertical hitch from Big Bike Parts through my Honda dealer. Since it's my first hitch that I am installing (I work on bikes so I am somewhat versed) I followed their instructions to the letter. Got it all done, final check and then put my rear fend...

Re: What's everyone's two-wheeled History?

While I am now a Goldwing rider, I am trying to get my hands on a 1979 KZ1000ST. I usually pick these up to fix and sell but something I like about this bike so I am trying to get it and fix it up, leave it naked, and ride it occasionally. So far, the owner and I haven't agreed on a price. Mainly, I...

Re: Added charger

Jinx, I know what you're saying. I added a cheap (Hong Kong) adapter and the cigarette lighter socket kept working but I lost both my USB ports. Solution, I plugged a two USB port adapter into the socket and used that. I have a second one that I will put in as unswitched so I use it like you do, ove...

Re: Added charger

So I still would like your opinion Wingadmin, I put in the power, plug and play into existing wiring and it was recommended to increase to a 10 amp fuse. I understand basics of electricity but only the basics. I don't believe I have a wiring diagram to see the gauge of wire for this circuit but it w...

Oh, I'll be changing my avatar as soon as I get the hitch put on the 2006. Just have to get my lazy butt out there and do it.

Added this post to get started in the monthly contest.

Added charger

I have the 2006 GL1800 which did not come with a phone charger so I added the one in the front left pocket that plugs straight into the wiring. I have attached a photo of the charger (Yes, I know it's upside down but didn't catch that until I had reinstalled the pocket) and the paperwork said to cha...

Re: Why did he crash ?

I always watch those. Analyze them. Try to figure out how to avoid a crash. Most interesting one I have seen is from a video of something I do all the time. Going through an intersection, I will try and position a car to my left. That way, my thinking was I have less chance of a left turn in front o...

Re: The loneliest road in America???

I do remember the Valkyrie since I have a picture of my dad reaching up and "holding" the nose up. I had bought my brother's car and was picking it up to bring back to Texas. Made it a nice family trip. I figure we'll spend enough time there to see a lot of it. Won't be in a rush so we will be able ...

Re: The loneliest road in America???

Dayton is definitely already on the list. I haven't been there since 1975 so my route will take us through so we can stop. I remember it also as being huge and a great place to go through. Both my son and I enjoy air museums. Took him through Hanger 25 in Big Spring Texas. Used to be home to Webb AF...

Re: The loneliest road in America???

Funny you should mention the Evergreen Museum. I have my shirt hanging in my closet though I was a bit disappointed when I went. Talked to the person taking the money and told her how much I wanted to see the Spruce Goose and go through it. Surprise! It wasn't open. It was being worked on yet to mak...

Re: The loneliest road in America???

About the same trip I have started planning. I hadn't decided how to come back yet but I have an idea of what I think I want to do. I'll be leaving Denver and heading out mostly via secondary roads to SLC. There I think I'll need to follow some interstate up into Idaho, then over towards Portland, t...

I definitely appreciate the input.

I will remain with the stock or NAPA filter since I feel that the knowledge here is far better than the little bit I have.

Thank you all for your suggestions, comments, and opinions!

Re: Reusable Oil Filters

Ok, the general census is NO. One question, NAPA Gold? Is it made for the Goldwing or an automotive that works with the Goldwing? I found the NAPA Gold but it has no way of verifying it works with the 2006 GL1800. Is that the one referred to? I always used the cheap ones off Ebay for my GL1100s but ...

Reusable Oil Filters

I have just been toying with the idea of a reusable oil filter for my 2006 GL1800. Opinions run very hot on both sides so I'm not looking to endorse or condemn them, just interested in people who have used them, still use them, or decided to go back to the disposable filters. I would like to hear wh...

I don't know if I will ever be that comfortable lifting it but it is good to know and was definitely an interesting video.

Thanks for the information.

Re: Jacking Wing with Harbor Freight Lift

Is that safe to do?

I have never used a jack until this one. I could never figure out how to lift it in what I considered a safe manner.

So it is a balance thing. Lift it and then strap it. I'll have to work on it.

Thank you.

Re: Jacking Wing with Harbor Freight Lift

I know this is an old posting but there is one thing I have never found listed anywhere and would like to find out opinions or the correct way to do it. My son received a gift and bought the Harbor Freight lift. Just the small one that centers under the bike. When lifting it, is it supposed to be st...

Re: Why did he crash ?

I think that is part of the reason I had a concussion. The helmet fit looser than my new one. It may have allowed my head to shift inside and hit multiple times. I don't know this for a fact and never will. I was much more careful sizing on my new helmet and it doesn't shift like the old one did. I ...
