Re: GL1500 Headlights operated by Oil Pressure Light

I have my headlight hooked up to my side stand switch. So the light stays off until the side stand is in the up position. I also have a bypass switch on the bike so I can check the headlight when I want to.

Well if you hadn't pushed your lovely wife off her motorcycle in Pennsylvania  we could have finished in West(By God) Virginia sooner and I would have had more time to work on my house. :D :D

Re: How often does this happen???

Well back for the latest updates. I have bought a boatload of tools.(I will try and attach pictures) I have R32 insulation in the roof of my garage, I have about $1500.00 Can. in additions to my bike and I have a door directly from my house into the garage.(Best idea ever!!) Ignition wires

Was wondering, as my bike passes 20 years old, is it time to change the ignition wires? I haven't had any issues with them but the age is beginning to worry me. Most cars recommend replacing their wires at least once every 5 years so I am thinking once every 20 years aint bad.

Any thoughts??

Re: Oem radio replacement

I have been using a wired FM modulator for years and I find it works flawlessly. I have my Garmin GPS hooked up to it as my mp3 player and it sounds as good as it gets with the stalk radio and speakers. The other up side is I can still use my cassette player as I still have a couple of mixed tapes I...

Re: proper vent settings for cold or hot...1990 GL 1500

With the lever down on the small vent warm air is directed to your legs, lever up is cool air. If you look really closely you will see a little H and C on the vent it's self. (at least on my 97) I like to think of it as hell is down and hell can be a little warm, or so I am told :D I purchased a set...

Re: I have an idea

I have had a compufire in my bike for several years, they are suppose to have a temp regulated voltage regulator. When it is a normal day mine will pump 14 volts all day, from idle up to redline, when it gets hot(usually above 80F and I am stuck in traffic or really hot and humid when driving ) it w...

MG Chemicals Acrylic Lacquer Conformal Coating, 340g (12 Oz) Aerosol Can, Clear is what I used, it is available at Amazon.ca but I got mine from Syal electronic supply. Don't know if you have them in your part of the country. If you haven't already, click on the link in the top post about fixing the...

Re: repair lcd display

Sorry it's been so long for the rest of the story. Since cleaning and coating the screen boards I have been on a 6000+ km trip (about 4000 miles) The display worked flawlessly for the whole trip. We had 3 or 4 days of driving in the rain and there were 3 or 4 nights the bike sat out in the pouring ...

I had tried those pressure indicator caps years ago. Put them on the bike brand new when I put her to bed for the day, both tires were completely flat by next mornings ride. They now spend there retirement days in a garbage dump some place.

Re: GL 1500 TIRES

Generally speaking, I have had great success with E3 for many years, yes they can get noisy sometimes but then again so can the wife but I am not about to dump either of them over it. :D I am looking forward to using the E4 based on the reviews I have read. The 1500 was originally designed to use bi...

Re: GL 1500 headlight

I had some problems getting the shims to fit over the H4 bulb base, it is a very tight fit. I used a pair of pliers to force the shim onto the base of the bulb. Is this what I was suppose to do? If so I don't see the shims coming off very easy if I need to replace the bulb. I was also considering th...

Re: GL 1500 headlight

Hi I just replaced my stock headlight on my 97 with the new style intended for the 98 and up models. I noticed that the light has stamped on the back 45/45 watt high and low beam and the bulbs installed are that wattage. I would like to use the new 60/55 watt bulbs I had in the old headlight, will t...

"Just looked this up - $70 a tin here! Is carnauba wax made from melted down virgins?"

The price is not surprising considering how hard it is to fine virgins these days.

Re: Keeping your windscreen clear during rain

I have found that lemon pledge works great for the bike and windshield, but it does seem to attract hornets and bees, I think it's the lemon smell. I think they have a un sented version.

Re: 1500 shuts off for a fraction of a second

My 97 SE did the same thing. Try thumping the kill switch and moving it slightly with the bike on and see if you can reproduce the problem. If it does the switch needs cleaning and on mine the spring had become weak, I had to take the hole switch apart and pull the spring apart a bit to put some ten...

Re: How often does this happen???

Sorry I have been out of touch for a bit. Well the money is still not yet in my possession, if all goes well should be in about 2 weeks. I have decided to keep the 1500 and go toy crazy. I just couldn't mentally justify the kinda of money to buy a 1800 so it can sit for 5-6 months a year. At least t...

I use a Audiovox hard wired FM modulator for my Aux in. Sounds great and you don't lose the cassette functionality. Where if your MP3 player goes for a crap, you still have the cassette as a back up.
