Re: Clacking noise.

The noise goes away if I pull the clutch in. I have been told that synthetic oils are thinner that standard oils, but you know how people are when it comes to oils. I enjoy riding the bike and don't want to retire her, but I don't think I am going to shell out that much money on this old of a bike.

Clacking noise.

Posted about 2 weeks ago about a clacking noise. Didn't get much help on problem. Lets try a different approach. Took my GL1500 down to a mechanic about a clacking noise and he said it was the Reverse Idle gear that was making the heavy clacking noise. He pulled in the clutch and the noise went away...

Clacking noise.

I have been off my bike for awhile, about 2 months, and noticed at the end of my ride that there appeared to be a clacking noise. Can't tell if it's valves or timing chain. I have a 1990 GL 1500. I do regular maintenance and do not horse it. I checked oil and it was very clean. Since this was the fi...

If you have a NAPA Auto parts available, you can get them there. And yes, they are Gates belts.

Re: WHEN TO REPLACE TIMING BELTS

When you replace your belts, don't forget to purchase the gaskets for the covers. They are probably all hard and brittle from sitting so long. The gaskets can be found at J & M. Not too expensive.

Re: battery

Ok, I bought the AGM from Cyclemax. I didn't like the specs on the Odyssey. It only stated about 160 CCA. Also the mounting is different than my battery, and this is supposed to be for my GL1500. Wasn't real impresed.

Re: New Years WISH

What the heck is a counter? You mean like how many times I can get into trouble with the wife in one day. Seriously though, I don't even look at the counter. All I am usually interested in is where the other riders are from and what they ride. Well, getting information to fix my Wing also. LOL. I ha...

Starting

Help. Just happened. I put the bike in reverse to put it in the garage, it went backwards about 5 ft. and stopped. Lost power to engine. Put it back in nuetral, out of reverse, and I have lights and radio but starter will not turn over. I can also put it back in reverse but the "R" light does not li...

Re: Why never enough motorcyles?

I currently have 2 bikes in my garage. My 1990 GL 1500 and a Suzuki VS 800 Intruder. I use the intruder for a daily driver and the Wing on weekends or roadtrips. Whoever dies with the most toys wins. That's what I have always heard.

Re: Hard starting

It stays on a Battery tender junior when ever I am not running it. So it could be the battery, but sounds more like a fuel problem than battery. Remember, it starts right away after back on the charge. Almost like the bowls are empty and by cranking it fills the bowels with fuel. No garage does not ...

Hard starting

I am having a hard time starting my 1990 GL 1500 if I let it set for more than a 3 to 4 days. I usually run the battery down and have to put it on the charger again. Is it possible that the gas is evaporating from the carbs or leaking out so that the engine doesn't have fuel to start until I turn it...

Battery

Ok, here is what happened. I haven't started my Wing in about a week and 1/2. It has been hooked up to a trickle charger, ( Battery tender jr), the whole time, and when I went to start it it seemed like the battery was dead. I tried to turn over and then nothing. By nothing, I mean I still had power...

Welcome aboard Rustywing. Did you say the "Treasure Coast" ? Hmmm. I was born and raised in Southern Florida and I never found this Treasure. LOL. All I ever found was Humidity. Oh, and Mosquitos. I now live in California so I don't have those problems anymore.

Re: Possible Trike Purchase...Questions

I zoomed in on the side pic and it looks like it has a reverse handle. Also, that type of radio, from the pic, came on the SE model didn't it? check the dates on the tires. has it been sitting long? Make sure you check the air compressor to see if it pumps up the shock. I think the shifter problem f...

Re: Engine stops when encountering a bump at slow speeds

First of all, what does Seafoam have to do with a starter. The starter is electrically activated and Seafoam is for something completely different. You have changed so many things around and replaced so many parts, it might be something you have done. If the starter motor is just spinning it is not ...

Re: Help, with installing power port, 1998 SE

I have 2 in my left pocket and a waterproof cigarette lighter in the right pocket. I ran them all back to the battery direct with a 15 amp inline fuse. I used the 15 amp fuse because of the power that the lighter uses.

Re: Air in tires while parked

Is there an advantage to filling your tires with Argon gas or is someone pulling my leg? I have welding tanks that are 80% Argon / 20% CO2. Where would I get Nitrogen to put in my tires. The only place I can think of is Walmart or Costco and I don't think they will just let me pull up and air my tir...

Re: Side panel "Bosses" (studs)

Yes. I attached a nut at the base of the stud ball to provide a larger surface for the ABS cement to adhere to. I also cleaned the surface of the side panel so it was down to the bare plastic. I used red locktite on the nut and stud ball once I knew I had the length correct. This photo was when I u...

I don't have the abs bosses anymore. I replaced them with the metal stud balls. Will the abs glue to the metal stud ball? Never tried that.

Re: Side panel "Bosses" (studs)

Update. The JB weld for plastic failed. Had it on for over a month so it had time to cure. The second time I pulled my panel it came loose. The third time it came off. The PO used some kind of epoxy that almost looked like liquid when used but set up solid. The reason I say liquid is because you can...

ct1500. That is the battery brand I have in my bike. I had never heard of that type of battery before. Does the 1500 need more cranking amps, or is 350 sufficient?

Thinking about getting a new battery. Old one has just about had it. Alternator is putting out 14 volts at idle. Battery just doesn't seem to have the reserve it used to. Does anyone have experience with the Gell batteries? I am going to get a no maintenance battery, but I have been hearing about th...

On the subject of LED bulbs in dash, did the DIY get corrected or a warning put in about the Blinker lights disabaling the self canceling feature on the bike if going to LED?

Re: engine gaurds on a 1998 GL1500

Why would you want to replace your engine guards? Are the stock ones smaller or something. I am assuming you are talking about the chrome tubing going from one side of the bike to the other so that if you lay it down it doesn't do too much damage.
