I agree with most of.what has.been said. You have a prokect but be sure to look at.it as an adventure into motorcycling and good hands on experience. You will know the bike when done! Put the neutral switch on a back burner. Google it for more info when ready to tackle. I am using black tape on mine...

The SHINKO TIRES were NOT the problem.

The Shinko Tires turned out to be fine. I found a loose suspension component to be my problem. I am starting to question myself more. I check things and check them again and still miss or forget stuff. Actually found this a while back but was too embarrassed to say. Shoot, did I take my medicines th...

Re: gates timing belts

Just put Gates on my 1978 GL1000 last weekend. Bought them on ebay. I didn't think at the time, but started wondering if these could be "real old" new Gates belts? The box looks pretty fresh and the belts look new, hope they are ok. They were not sold as NOS. :?: There is always something to worry a...

Wow that's a post in itself.....raising the tubes up the tree....... But I wonder what the 'LIMIT' would be for raising the tubes and not affecting handling..... I think this topic has gone a bit south......If you got a big woman....MMMmmmmmm love it up. How it affects how you 2 ride is up to you. ...

Holy Moly, same issue here too but, my girlfriend is "a good sized girl" (kindest woman I have ever known however, and she makes my heart melt) but anyway, after riding solo a while I forget the difference it makes, huge! We took a trip to south Missouri a couple weekends ago and pulled into a Mexic...

Re: WTB Tubeless Lester Wheels for a 1978 GW? wanted

The rear wheel will work from 1975 to 79 but the front wheel is different the 75-77 front wheel is the same and the 78-79 wheel are the same the difference is in the brake set up for the caliper mounts and the rotor mounts hope this helps. Rod No worries. I was in question on those years applicatio...

Re: Will 81 gl1100 wheels work on 78 gl1000?

And BTW, when mounting up my tires with the tubes, it was painfully evident how eager the tires were to head towards the center recesss, if you can picture what I maean. :o I think these tubeless beads on the rims are one of the reasons you get such a "pop" when finally seated. Mine didnt have hardl...

Re: Will 81 gl1100 wheels work on 78 gl1000?

I have never heard of anyone having to change wheels because they want to put tubeless tyres on. I would be pleased if you can find a technical reason to do this, but as long as the rims are clean and smooth, the rubber should seat ok. Oh yes, I would be glad to, as I questoned it myself. To begin ...

Will 81 gl1100 wheels work on 78 gl1000?

I want to convert to tubeless wheels on my 78 1000 and have found a set of 81 gl1100 wheels for decent money. Will these replace my originals without modifications? Through previous research I have convinced myself the 81 wheels are designed tubeless, with ridges or bumps to prevent the tire from dr...

WTB GL1000 Front Brake Pad Hardware Needed

Someone has managed to lose the front brake pad stainless shim and anti-noise spring hardware on one caliper. Any usable extras out there? Parts not available according to local supplier.
Thanks

WTB GL1000 SEAT BRACKETS or MOUNTS NEEDED

I thought I got a decent deal on a nice stock seat for my 1978 Goldwing. However it came without front or rear mounts. I thought no problem, I will just take them off the king/queen touring seat that is on it now. Went to swap the seats today and found that it is a Corbin seat with welded on bracket...

Re: I think I hate my new tires!

Thanks, not the pressures on the tire. I set them at the pressures indicated on the rear fender for max load, those numbers you mention sound close if not exact. What tire pressure are you running? Is it the max pressure listed on the tire? If so that is probably too high. Two up riding would most l...

Re: Exhaust Fumes Smell Gasses While Riding

Just a follow up. Fumes not quite as bad as when I posted for some reason.

But, I can actually feel wind hitting my back and back of neck.
That at least explains why I am smelling exhaust.
Now to try and correct the airflow? :(
