Re: wind protector removal

When you tried to bleed the right front caliper did you press the foot brake pedal? Right front and rear brakes are linked.

Re: Turn Signal Problem. . . .

In the pictured connector there are about 20 positive connector pins that power all the accessories from that connector out. There is only ONE ground connector so, that one connector has to carry the ground current for ALL those accessories. Positive power on twenty connectors X20 for the power cond...

Re: Need Your Experience With 1157 LED Purchases

Hello Pat, I tried several LEDs for my 86 GL1200A and found that most of the units that I bought locally would not be satisfactory at all. The way they were designed and the design of the 1200 tail light assembly would lose most of the illumination in the light assembly as the units would light up s...

Re: Turn Signal Problem. . . .

Great! Moisture almost always causes oxidation of the connector pins. That, in turn, causes corrosion, high resistance, then heat that will cause the burning within the connector. If only Mother Honda had coated the connectors with dielectric grease and the owners had added a little each time the co...

Re: Trailer LED lights

Simply put, no you do not need any adapter. Your 1500 has a separate turn signal light, separate from the tail/stop lights. If your trailer has only two tail/stop lights, You will have turn lights but no stop lights. The fifth wire is for that function. If you remember the old cars where the stop li...

Re: Directional/Hazards headaches

Test for power at each light that doesn't work. Then test for ground at the same lights. Sounds like you will probably find that there is no ground there. Then trace back from the light to find the problem. You might find the trouble at one of several ground points. Russell Those who say it cannot b...

Sorry, my 84-86 Factory Service Manual doesn't show any springs on the rocker shafts. It shows adjusting the valves with shims. The 87 must be different.

Re: 1992 GL1500 Interstate fuel pump

Check the two wires under the kill switch. Miles and years of vibration at the handlebars will cause them to loosen and then you will have no spark or fuel. My 92 Interstate did just that. I removed the two screws under the switch and raised the kill switch to find both connections loose. Tightening...

Have you checked the two connectors under the kill switch? If they are loose you don't have power for spark or fuel.

Re: Turn signal trouble

Do you mean that you replaced the flasher units under the seat or you changed all the bulbs to LED bulbs? Were they working properly before the change to LED? If you mean the flasher units you may have one of them wired in backwards. Try reversing polarity. If you replaced the bulbs you may have pul...

If it's an early Interstate, maybe all Interstates, they don't auto cancel. My 92 Interstate doesn't.
Your profile states GL 1100. Are you referring to a GL 1100 or GL 1500????? What year?????

Re: stubborn oil filter

Secret to success; never, Never, NEVER tighten an oil filter with any wrench, ever, Ever, EVER!!! Tighten it as tightly as you can with your bare hand. With engine heat the rubber seal will expand a bit and then you will need a wrench to remove it. If you tighten it with a wrench it will have to be ...

Re: stubborn oil filter

If you clean the mating surface and lubricate the seal on the new filter with clean motor oil and tighten it as tightly as you can by hand (NO WRENCH) you will have a good seal and will never have trouble removing the filter with a wrench. By only tightening by hand, the seal will expand slightly wi...

Re: 86 Stator question

I don't think Honda improved on that stator but, there are a couple of things you can do to make it last longer. First off, check the plug in front of the battery, the one with 3 yellow wires. That was a big problem with the GL1200s. It was a poor design. This connector is not a sealed connector and...

Re: Engine quits for no reson

When you start to slow it shifts the center of gravity ever so slightly to the front, even more when braking. Even a very slight, unnoticeable, amount of drop at the forks could be just enough to move a ground connector that is slightly loose or touch (ground out) a powered wire (short out) to cause...

Are you trying to remove the front tar or the rear tar? Sorry, couldn't help it. I use mineral spirits but, I know WD-40 works well also. I also use rubbing alcohol on stuff like pine tar. Re: Engine quits for no reson

Check your bank angle sensor. The 88 - 93 models had a recall. When the BAS cuts power you have to cycle the ignition off and back on to restart. Check the VIN with the dealer to find if it has been replaced under recall. If it has not been replaced they will order one for you. As long as the bike i...
