Re: Vacuum blowing not sucking

Well would you believe it ??? I'm guessing you would. Took the plugs out, valve covers off then set engine to "T" mark. Slid a probe into No 1 cylinder and low and behold the piston was at the bottom of the stroke. Did the same to No3 and she was at TDC. WHAT A PLONKER !!. I'd got my crackers in a t...

Vacuum blowing not sucking

OK. I did say I was new to Goldwings... I've just replaced the valve guide seals, Rebuilt the carbs and replaced associated gaskets and belts. Set the valve timing to "T" mark. Turn on the fuel. Connected the battery and turned her over. Not even a pop or a bang, so started investigating. Plugs dry ...

Cam shaft/timing

I removed the heads so I could fit new valve seals. Ground the valves in. Got a perfect seal. When I re fit the cam shaft and carrier things don't look right. I line up the timing marks (dot and "up"), bolt the cam carrier back down only to find the valves partly open on No 1 Cylinder. When I rotate...

carb jets1.JPG carb jets1.JPG carb jets1.JPG The air/fuel ways I've removed the jets from are clear. Ran air through them. There are other passages that seen to be sealed off. The brass jet in the centre is fixed in place and appears blocked. The small tube on the outside of the carb is solid. Ther...

That's great. Any advice appreciated. New ground to me. I've stripped two of the four and have them in soak. Lots of crud everywhere. The Cut off valve looks in pretty good shape.

Cherrs for now

Great info Virgil. Thanks.
Definitely a dead cylinder at idle. Spark and compression good. Time for a rebuild.

Popping and Banging

My Gold Wing had been stood for five or so years. I've changed every service part possible in preparation for its re comission. It starts up first touch of the button. Idles reasonably smooth, no shakes. The problem occurs when I rev it. It pops and bangs before picking up the revs. Hesitates and ne...

Got loads of pics. Completely renovating from ground up. Nice winter project that's going well. Apart from occasional hiccup like the 7v regulator issue. Its a great learning curve

For future ref. Only the basic GL1100 and 1200 have this regulator. The Interstate or Aspencade do not need one. Anyone want to buy a 7v Regulator?

Voltage Reg

Hi
I've just ordered a 7volt regulator for my fuel and Temp gauges.
The needles were showing a full tank and a hot engine. This I'm told is quite a commom fault. Has anyone had this fault? Did you fit a new volt regulator? Was it easy to do?

Re: Engine removal 86 interstate

I removed my 1984 gl1200 Interstate engine complete apart from the timing belt covers. Took seat and dummy tank off. Removed front fairing and radiator. Hoisted whole bike up with block and tackle. Removed exhausts and left hand frame. Put a workmate bench under the bike and lowered it onto it. Remo...
