Re: Oil leak
Sence thats on the left side (kick stand side) of the bike, that makes it kinda easy. That bottom section of frame comes out (unbolts). You must put it on the center stand to remove it, because the side kick stand is attached to the section of frame that you will be removing.

Re: Oil leak
You may be able to screw a 1/4 - 20 bolt in the hole. Yes, its a cross thread, but, with a fiber washer behind it, it might stop the oil.
I think I would use a grade 8 bolt if I tried it. Grade 8s are strong, and less likely to break.

1980 gl1100 vacuum advance surgery
Bringing back an old topic-A few days ago, I pulled my 1100 engine for a new stator, and while I have it off, i thought I would replace the diaphragm in my vacuum advance (has never worked sence I've owned it-been plunged). With Gods help, not only was I able to repair it, I was also able to leave i...

put you in the gl1100 parts business.
Ok-without going into all the details why-I want to get rid of my 1100 stuff. I have a 1980 standard vetter running with tags and inspection, a 1982 standard parts bike that runs, but has a bad trans. The 80 has 163xxx miles, but has new crank bearings and clutch, new donlops, it's in good condition...

Re: front brake light
I agree with you 100%! Not long ago, it was revealed to me (that sounds strange-but I do believe God orchestrated the events that showed me-long story) that my rear brake light was out on my gl1100 (little linkage spring had came off), and, my wife's brake lights were out on her subaru outback (shor...

Re: Help me make up my mind?
I suppose you could...take all spark plugs out-insert screw-it type tester, put bike in fifth gear, and with some help-push it (in paved surface?). That's not a vary "good" method, but I suppose it's possible. It will work without carbs installed.

Re: Help me make up my mind?
Do a compression check on it first-you are looking for 4 pretty even numbers 100(?) Lbs or better. That may help you decide. Carbs in a box?......if I had the carb thing to do again on my 1100, I believe I would consider a single carb conversion. It can cost several hundred dollars in parts for a co...

Re: is it smooth or what?
Didn't mean to hit a nerve  ...my 1980 has 163,000 miles on it-below 2800~ rpm it grumbles a little...I have patched up a little-long story. I mentioned once on this forum about how riding it reminded me of driving a tractor....I received a reply..."yep, that describes the 1100". As far as it ...

Re: is it smooth or what?
I bought a new 1981 gs550 t...it was smooth....smoothest bike I've ever rode was a mid 70s 250 suzuki two stroke with a ram air system (don't remember letters)....I may have rode 100 bikes...IDK... Gold wings whine, growl or lug at low rpms-stock suspension is really not that impressive....to me any...

is it smooth or what?
I just bought a 1996 aspy-it's beautiful, and loaded. I've been riding my 1980 standard vetter-still ticking. When I talk to "non goldwing owners", they say..."goldwings run vary smooth", or, "that's the smoothness.......". I have owned some 2-strokes, and some inline-4s- that were smoother than my ...

Re: First Ride
This might sound silly to some, but one day-I was trying to get mine up (soft shoes-tinder feet)....I work with steel some, and just happened to grab a piece of 2x2 square tubing about 9? Inches long-slipped it on the foot lever-put my foot on the tubing...popped right up! So, I use it often. I'm ju...
