Re: 97 GL1500 drive shaft line up

Thanks for the good tips guys, I used Mike's method and was successful. I never thought about using the starter so maybe next time, though I am I no hurry to do that again! Some thoughts on using the pivot method to access the rear tire. It saved time on the disassembly, but lining things up was dif...

Re: 97 GL1500 drive shaft line up

Thanks Mike, I didn't read that carefully enough. It took three tries but your technique was successful, very happy to have that done. Tomorrow the tire goes on, let the reassembly begin !

Re: 97 GL1500 drive shaft line up

I did think of separating the drive shaft and I now have something to prop up the u joint. I am going to give it a try like that. I didn't see anything about lining up the drive, but plan on using the axle to do that ,then tighten the nuts up. Thanks for the tips, if all else fails I can go thru the ...

97 GL1500 drive shaft line up

I am doing a new rear tire and decided to lube the drive shaft, problem is the universal joint is flopping down and I can't get the shaft into the coupler. It seems to me the u joint should be stiffer but I do have 76k it. Looking for some tips on how to line this up without going nuts. Also any thou...

Re: GL1500 mounting a new rear tire

Ok, good to know, and yes I am doing the CB beads. Looks like 42 psi and currently running 39 psi in the front. I had E3 s and they cupped badly at 12k so I plan on running these on the max end. I am going to try pivoting the sub frame to gain the access to the rear like I saw in a video.

GL1500 mounting a new rear tire

I am replacing my rear tire and plan on trying to mount it myself. The new tire arrived today but has no balancing Mark to line up with the valve stem. Does this mean it can be mounted anywhere? The tire is an Avon Cobra. Thanks for any advice.

Re: Motion Pro Bead Breaker & Lever

I will try the c clamp method when I do the back tire. The motion pro tool should work well on a dirt bike.

Re: Motion Pro Bead Breaker & Lever

I needed to do a front tire on my 1500 so I decided to try this tool. I was not successful in breaking the bead as I was not sure how much force to use and didn't want to damage the rim. I don't like to force things so I ended up having a local shop do it. I need to do the back tire soon so maybe a ...

Re: side stands and mounting your bike

I get on from either side, from the left I use the floor board to get up and over the back rest, and from the right I put the left leg on the seat and slide in. On the dismount I always get off on the right because it's easier for me. Most everyone that I ride with get on and off from the left so wh...

Re: New Member with question on fork seals

Check out the article called 1500 front end disassembly video on this site by Heidibill. He did the same thing actually making one himself but as dingdong informed him there is only one with the oil lock, that account for the slight difference in oil capacity of the forks. I don't know why honda did...

Re: New Member with question on fork seals

Good information Wingryder 1, I can see how this would work since there is no tension on the lower. For reinstalling the new seal with the uppers still on the bike would a motion pro seal driver work? Also how did you come up with the 15.5 for the airspace? I remember using 7.6 from the top with the...

Re: New Member with question on fork seals

I am pretty sure if you take out those drain bolts without relieving the spring tension you still have a problem but I only just did this for the first time recently. Be aware those bolts have thread lock on them so they may be hard to break. I would refer you to the excellent diy article on how to ...

Re: GL1500 intercom over muting problem

Yes I probably could talk louder but even with volume on one click it will mute with surrounding noise or wind which I know can't be normal. Problem only goes away with volume off so for now, I work it manually, fortunately my wife is not a chatter box and our riding friends don't do the headsets, b...

Re: GL1500 intercom over muting problem

Rode all day today and tried different combinations but it's the same no matter where I set the mute level. Leads me to believe that the mute control is not working though it does click as you turn it.

GL1500 intercom over muting problem

I have a 97 1500 se which when I have the intercom on,mutes the radio constantly if I am over 45 mph or there is surrounding traffic noise. Over time I have replaced headsets, cords and tried different wind socks all to no avail. The mute adjustment seems to have no affect so l now ride with the inte...

Re: Squeal coming from front of bike

Disconnect the Speedo cable at the front wheel ,if noise goes away replace the cable or try living it. If noise doesn't go away check the Speedo drive unit , might need regreasing. You have to take front wheel off to check the drive unit.

Re: 2015 Goldwing (40th Anniversary) disappointment

I have owned two goldwings over the last 22 years, an 87 ascendance and a 97 1500 se. In many ways the 87 was more advanced with the digital dash ,which I prefer, gear shift indicator, switches that didn't stick and a working clock! I bought the 97 from a friend in 2008 and though lacking some of th...

Re: She just died on a ride today

When I found the fuel pump to be good I peeled back the boot from the back of the ECM connector on the male side. I then made a small u shaped jumper wire to go in the back of blk/blu to blk/wht, then plugged the connector back into ECM.This will supply 12 volts to the pump when key is on, so go ahe...

Re: She just died on a ride today

You can run a jumper on the ECM connector that will supply voltage to your fuel pump when you turn key on. Pull the fuel line off of the fuel filter and put it into a container then see if fuel pumps with key on. If your fuel filter is ok and the shut off valve are ok then your ECM May be suspect. I...
