Re: having issues with my single carb

Yes, I will get pics sometime this week.i just ran some test runs , decreasing the main jet size each time. That was causing it to starve even more when I opened up the throttle. I went back to the size it came with and then went 1/2 size bigger, runs perfect now.

Re: GL1100i Leaking fuel/oil from #4 carb near pilot and float

I rebuilt my carbs twice and still continued to have problems with leaks, tuning and fouling plugs.
I decided to try a single carb setup and since then, will never go back to stock.

Re: linked brake bleed question

OK................ the 1980 came from the factory with separate front and rear braking systems. 1983 was the first year for the linked system. so if you do have linked brakes on a 1980 then it has been modified from stock. that said............ the front brake is the farthest from the master cylind...

linked brake bleed question

I have a 1980 gl1100 whereby the front left and rear brake is linked. I am wanting to change the brake fluid, is there a sequence (front left first then rear, rear first then front) or are they done at the same time?

having issues with my single carb

Used a VW 34-3 single carb. Bike runs but is fouling the plugs very quickly. I set the carb per DKL ( dude on steve saunders site) and she idles well but fouls plugs like crazy !! Once the plugs are fouled, when i open up the throttle at highway speed , she stammers. no backfiring at all. Is she run...

Re: Ever heard this?

Okay, today was a big day. 87 degrees, really? This would be the first time I get to take her out. Remember, when I bought her, the rear brake caliper was locked up and the carbs were flooding and leaking. Here are some more observations, this time from on the road, focusing on this loud noise comin...

well then i hope its something simple and you can fix it without too much trouble. stuart. I appreciate you and everyone else here trying to help me. Re: Ever heard this?

it does sound like something is loose inside the rear of that motor. is the noise only on the left side of the motor? is the transmission working properly? no problems shifting thru the gears? broken dog ear or bent forks perhaps? is it possible that something came loose in the back of the motor an...

Re: Ever heard this?

is it possible that the starter chain is stretched and slapping around inside behind the flywheel? stuart. The starter chain isn't moving unless the starter is operating. Does the noise change if you pull the clutch in? How about if the bike is in gear (i.e. on center stand, in first gear)? The noi...

1980 Gl 1100 rear wheel question

I have just replaced rear tire and put everything back following Wingadmin tutorial for gl1100 rear wheel removal. Re: Is this claim legit??

I will check what's been suggested . Isn't it true that the gl1100 engine , even if all components are prestine and working as they should , will stammer and shutter at takeoff anyway? The bike runs fine once I reach high rpms . As far as saber cycle goes, I knew they were a shady outfit but their a...

Is this claim legit??

My 1981 gl1100 runs very rough starting out low. Everything I know has been checked, valves, carbs , etc , etc.
I ran across an article by saber cycle that stated an air cutoff valve would cure the problem for a mere $16. I've never heard of this. Anyone read this claim?

I've decided to rebuild them. O'reillys had the pulleys for $20 each. Now I just need to follow the diy article on this and I should be good.
Thanks for all the offers and research.

There are articles on how to rebuild these items using different bearings, however, a used set from a lower mileage bike would suffice.
