Re: Making A Heavier Stator and Rectifier for 1200 Goldwing

As far as a heavier stator or hypo super stator ???? AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN . Take care of you bike such as oil changes and lightend your electrical load . stator will last for years . I have three and have for years . Or you can do the butcher job the external alternator

Re: Gl1200 side covers

Thoses covers were made by Markland and are no longer made . I have a pair on my bike and never have a problem with heat. If you find a pair (in good shapewith all the mounting hardware) it won't be cheap. I paid around 400.00 for mine BUT I have an LTD you might get some for a little less

Re: clock & charger

Guys, is the Battery Tender jr able to keep the battery up while the clock on my Aspencade operates? Or should I "fire" the clock? If you are concerned about the clock and other things draining the battery , why don't you just disconnect one of the terminals from the battery ? That would eleminate ...

Re: New replacement stator for GL1000, GL1100, GL1200

These things come to mind while reading this thread. Like it or not, this is a global economy. Parts for these older bikes are getting more scarce as time goes by. I can see most of these parts drying up in about two years with the way that the used parts market and ebay is selling. After these par...

It's more than likely you have a burned out IC bulb . You'll have to pull the cluster to replace it

Re: Going to look at 85 LTD

Well 1350 CND is about 1000 US Ahhhhhhhhh I donno . It sounds like its a little ruff around the edges . You will spend alot more on one that doesn't need anything . I don't know how picky you are about detail or perfection . But if you like tinkering as I do and you're not in a hurry most of the par...

Re: Backfire and then dead

I took a nice ride during the Bike Fest in Lake Ozark, Missouri over the weekend. I made it 50 miles, and then out of the blue, my 1986 GL1200I back fired twice really load. I then had nothing but electric lights on the dash and a headlight. I pushed the start switch and could hear a click, but the...

Re: New replacement stator for GL1000, GL1100, GL1200

"leading Asian manufacturer of motorcycle electronic components", that would be Denso in Japan, wouldn't it? Heck of a good price, and competitive to Rick's prices. I bought one of Rick's and then decided to do the automotive alternator conversion instead, sold it on ebay, the harness plug was wood...

Re: Going to look at 85 LTD

Well I finally got it started today this morning in fact about 9:30 or so . I replaced the PG behind the R timimg belt cover and it fired right up. As I suspected it is going to need a stator . It isn't charging not the regulator either. That job wont happen intill next year sometime (got other thin...

Re: Going to look at 85 LTD

Well I bought it as a no start. The PO bought it thinking it needed a starter . He didn't know how to work on it although he thought he could . He gave up on it and bought a bike from the Honda dealership ready to go . Some sort of cruiser. I got it to turn over by replacing the starter solenoid and...

Re: Going to look at 85 LTD

Bike has 140,000 km. I guess that is about 87000 k in miles. Not really a lot of miles . My 1st LTD had 85000 when I got it in 09 and the one I just bought has 100000 + and I never heard it run YET ! . Look it over good check the stator plug put a volt meter on the battery rev to about 3000 see wha...

I don't know about new but you ought to keep checking E-bay for used ones . I just bought a (spare) pair for my 1200s with only 15K on them for less than 90 bucks SHIPPED :?:

They are parting out a wrecked 85 LTD with 15k on it. I bought a few other things as well . Prices pretty decent too
