Re: Highway pegs

So, why would you abandon one of your 3 safety points of contact on a motorcycle by using highway pegs out there? Cool looking? I just ordered a set for my 1800. It's not for to look cool, but to help reposition my butt for a few minutes while on a long ride. Stopping every hour is not what I want ...

I use it to free up my wrist if it starts to cramp up. Cruise control is nice.

Re: Windshield recommendation for 2003 Goldwing 1800

I bought a Klockwerks Flare last year and really like it. I like to look over it, and about 75% of the wind buffeting went away. I'm pretty sure if I put it up high enough that I had to look through it....most all the buffeting would be gone.

How difficult was it to install the hitch. I have purchased a used one, but won't be putting it on till April/May, when the snow melts. My 2005 is in the cold storage of my back garage.

Re: VStream windshield - Do not purchase

Thanks for the review. The VStream was one of the ones I was looking at. I came from a 1981 Goldwing that had virtually no buffeting, and I look over the windscreen, to a 2005 Goldwing last summer, and was disappointed with all the buffeting. I searched, and finally decided to buy a Klock Wirks wind...

Re: Buying a 1981 gl1100 Goldwing.

I owned a 1981 interstate back in the 80s. It was the best bike that I owned. I have a 2005 now, and wish I had my '81 back.

Go for it.....

you can also get plastic 3M tape installed in those areas. It's clear and not noticeable.

Re: Thinking of buying 81-82 gw your advise

I had an '81 interstate years ago. Traded it in for a baby carriage. Just bought a 2005 last summer. Wish I had my '81 back. The wind buffeting is much more on the 2005. As for gas mileage. My '81 used to rev quite high. My friend bought a (I think) a '84. His bike reved alot slower than mine. His w...

Re: Planning a Ride from Saskatchewan to the Maritimes

You will be travelling through Kenora (TransCanada Hwy 17 ) . From there you can either travel Hwy 71 through Fort Frances and onward to Thunder Bay. Or you continue on Hwy 17 through Dryden and onward to Thunder Bay. Through fort Frances is your best scenic route along Lake of the Woods. I could ei...

Yes, you need to push the cruise control button. The light will come on. You then need to push the "set" button, and another light will come on that the cruise is now set. When you hit your brake, the "cruise on" light will go out, but the cuise control light will still be on.....till you turn it of...

That fog reminds me of when I was there in '84. Rode in the fog for 2 days, met bikers that had been sitting for days. Finally, near the top end we stopped for the night...trying to decide to do the last bit during the night because there was no fog. We stopped at a town (city) and talked to a touri...

Re: Please tell who or what made you buy a Goldwing

Back in the '70s I owned a Honda 90 scrambler....then a honda 175, then about 1980 got a Yamaha 750. Bought a '81 Goldwing Interstate in 1982. Travelled the country (with wife on the back) and put 72,000 on it. Had two kids in '85 and '87.....traded the bike in for a baby carriage in '87. Been talki...

The Blueridge Parkway brings back alot of memories. Wife and I road from Northern Canada down to Nashville in '84. Was sick from the 95f days and took a couple days off at Nashville. Got on the parkway in Cherokee, and headed north. Fog every day. What a scary ride when you couldn't see 50 feet. Cro...

1st or 2nd generation 1800

What's the difference from a 1st generation 1800 and a 2nd generation. I take it the 2nd generation started in 2006 (I have a 2005).

Re: How do you check your oil level

I would suppose that after the engine has been run, a certain (probably small) amount of oil is 'hung-up" in the engine workings. If the engine has been sitting for a long bit of time, that amount of oil would have gravitated to the sump, therefore giving it a bit of a higher reading than wanted. Pe...
