Re: 78 GW oil light questions

Yes, the oil light does not indicate low oil level, it indicates low oil pressure. Running the engine for any length of time with the oil light on usually results in permanent damage - which is likely going to be borne out by the clanking noise you hear. If you haven't run it for any length of time...

78 GW oil light questions

Hello- Just arrived back into town after a 300 mile road trip yesterday. This morning the oil indicator light came on. I drained the oil and put the right amount back in. Now the oil indicator light will not turn off and there is a knocking/clanking about the engine. There were no problems on the ro...

Wiring turn signal on a 78 Goldwing

Greetings- I took off the front Vetter fairing on my 78 Goldwing. I"m trying to put on front turn signals, which I now own. Where in the world do I hook up the turn signals? The headlight is off and now I'm lost. I know where to bolt them onto the bike, and I"ve found the relay switch underneath the...

Exhaust leak or over heating Goldwing

WkN4KteEhpg Hi all- I've asked a couple questions about random hoses and spark plugs. Thanks for all the good information, I really appreciate it. I need some more help. Like I've said before I was recently given a 1978 Goldwing from a friend. The bike was sitting in storage for three years until I...

Re: Identity a hose for me please.

Keep in mind. Since the engine was leaking badly it may have oil dripping for quite a while. Curious. Can you see the oil level through the site glass now? The question begging to be asked is, how goes the oil leak following the oil change? Ok. I can't see anything in the oil window, but with the o...

I hang my head in shame and suffer under the adept punishment for my past oily sins. Correct oil change has been accomplished with the proper amount of oil!

Rusted and stripped bolt for oil filter housing unit

photo (11).JPG Hell all- I have a rusted and stripped bolt holding my oil filter housing on to the bike. I have used PB blaster penetrating oil (copiously) and no luck. I have also taken a hammer to it in attempt to knock something loose. How can I get it off? Would blasting it with fire work? I've...

Re: Identity a hose for me please.

The spark plugs are totally oil fouled. We checked them before turning the motorcycle on for the first time.

Re: Identity a hose for me please.

What was the oil level prior to putting in 3 liters (3.2 quarts) of oil? Was the crank case completely empty? Did you check the oil level in the sight glass before putting the oil in? If not, I think you may have over filled it and that's not good. Your original post isn't clear whether the drippin...

Identity a hose for me please.

Hi all- Recently received (for free) a 1978 Goldwing. Started her up today and after some starting fluid she idled! Anyways there is this hose (pic included) that started dripping oil once she was running. Earlier today I put three liters in because while she say (for three years) she leaked oil. Wh...
