Re: Rear trunk side pocket broken

I had the left side break on my 2012 a while back and I'll be looking at repairing it today. This has got to be one of the crappiest designed things on the bike. I lost the door on the right side shortly after I got the bike, but I was able to get the dealer to replace it and the pocket (since that ...

Re: Motorcycle stuff for Christmas

My family and I came to an understanding years ago that they were not allowed to get me anything related to my hobbies (such as motorcycling). Unless they are also intimately involved in said hobby, then more than likely they would not really know if a given item was useful or not, and if it was the...

Re: Photo Tag ---Anyone want to play?

I'm going to leave the tag alone for now. At the moment I think the problem is as Mag mentioned - it's too blasted cold and slippery to get the bike out to go find ANYTHING, let alone an LEO. At the moment I wouldn't feel comfortable taking my bike anywhere beyond my own driveway. And Stew - I actua...

Re: Perfect Ride Handguards: P-Review

So I got a set of these guards through Amazon and got them installed yesterday. Now I just need to wait for the roads to clear up bit more so that I can go for a ride and try them out. One thing to note though - while they will work with the Kuryakyn ISO grips, they won't work with the Throttle Boss...

Re: Perfect Ride Handguards: P-Review

On the installation video earlier in this post it shows you drilling a hole in the throttle boss. And maybe change spacers. I failed to mention I have a 1800. It does not contact the mirrors at all. Thanks. Guess I should have watched that video first. Or even just paid attention in the test-ride v...

Re: Perfect Ride Handguards: P-Review

I really like the thought of these and I'd like to get a pair (maybe after the first of the year). However I have the Kuryakyn ISO grips with a Throttle Boss. That means a thicker than normal grip plus that tab at the end of the throttle. Will that mean any type of conflict with these handguards? /d...

Re: Move over proprietary computer systems, Linux now owns the show

At one point in my career I was doing some work on the AIX kernel. I've moved on from that and I've been using Linux now for a number of years. Don't really want to say how many years, but I will say that my first install was Slackware 1.1. Nowadays I do low-level bit-twiddling on low-end HP Laser p...

Re: Which tire?

I have a set of Dunlop E4s on my 1800. I currently have a tad under 13,000 miles on them. I would guess that I'll get another 5,000 out of them, but I'll be the first to admit that I'm not that great at that type of estimating. They replaced a set of E3s that I had 14,000 miles on when I saw steel i...

Re: How cold will ya'll ride?

Two quotes come to mind: "Every day is a good day for a ride. Some days are just better than others." and "There's no such thing as bad weather. Just inappropriate clothing." Like some of the others, I'll ride year-round as long as the roads are clear. I may get real cozy with the fireplace when I g...

I made the same point here, including saddlebags: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=40481&start=25#p244356

Either that or a Honda option.
Yeah, I saw that after I did my post. Nice to know that I have the same thought processes as the WA.

Re: 2018 GOLDWING SPECIFICATIONS

For the most part I like the looks and the improvements that I've read about. The reduced fuel capacity doesn't concern me too much if the fuel economy really is 22% better. That will more than make up for the reduced capacity. Even a 10% improvement in fuel economy would make up for it. Besides, I'...

Re: DO NOT PURCHASE METZLER TIRES !

FWIW: I had some Metzlers on my previous bike (2006 Yamaha Royalstar). Didn't really like the way they handled, and if I remember correctly they only lasted about half a season (around 5000 miles). I have some Dunlop E4s on my bike now. Put them on the middle of last year. They currently have 12,000...

Re: Photo Tag ---Anyone want to play?

Nope. I guess nobody wants to be seen with their local police. How about a car then. If you can't get a photo with a police officer, get a shot of your bike next to a police car instead. That should be fairly simple. But then I thought getting a shot with an officer would be simple.

Re: Photo Tag ---Anyone want to play?

Guys - I didn't say you had to get one on the road. You can always just go to the police station and ask one of them to come out for the photo. I'll loosen it up a bit though. As brettchallenger mentions, not all areas have motorcycle cops, so instead of restricting the challenge to that let's just ...

Re: Feel so dumb

Don't feel bad. Knocking that door off is a common occurrence. The thing that is really bad is that the part that usually breaks isn't on the door but on the compartment itself, which means that you'll have to replace the whole assembly. Poor design in my opinion. I may have to see if I can figure o...

Re: Is your shield high or low?

I have a Windbender on my 1800, and it's great. With it's split shield it breaks up the pressure behind the windshield and throws the air coming over the top even higher. On the freeway I'll typically have it set to just below eye level so that I'm looking over it, and it throws the wind over me and...

Re: The Invisible Motorcycle

Riding around town is when you need a headlight modulator the MOST! That's when people are most likely to pull out in front of you, at intersections, and so on. It's far less useful out on the open road, where there isn't much traffic. I hear what you are saying and I don't really disagree, but I d...

Re: The Invisible Motorcycle

On the visibility standpoint, I wear a yellow HiVis jacket. My bike is black/silver. In general I haven't really had any issues with not being seen. I suspect though that between the jacket and the coloring on the bike, people think I'm a motorcycle cop so they tend to be more aware of me. I do have...

Re: 2017 Total Eclipse, who's traveling?

We traveled - away from it. We live just on the edge of the totality band and everyone was predicting a traffic nightmare, so we took this as a good opportunity to go where everyone else wasn't. We left Boise Friday morning and headed West on Hwy 26 to John Day, OR (saw lots of fields set up to rent...

Ok, these photos are from the trip that I just got back from up to Northern Idaho (went up there to escape the eclipse hoopla). They were taken from the scenic overlook on Idaho Hwy 3 above Cave Lake. BTW: I highly recommend that ride, from I90 all the way down to Orofino Idaho and beyond. We do hav...

Re: Photo Tag ---Anyone want to play?

Looks like I'll have to wait until I get home this afternoon before I can post my photos. The website won't take the raw photos from my phone because they are too big. I'll have to get onto my real computer to reduce them first. So you all have a few hours yet to beat me.

Re: Photo Tag ---Anyone want to play?

Nope. No good. The photo has to have been taken AFTER the tag is announced. No going back into your archives. The whole point of this exercise is to get people to go out and ride in order to find the tag. I have one from the ride we did today in northern Idaho. I'll try to get it up once I get clean...

The group that I ride with just started a new one yesterday. It's called the BVR Youth Member Cancer Sucks Bus Escort. We escort a busload of childhood cancer patients to their summer camp.
