Re: Uneven Idle

You can try to reset the ECM. Start bike cold and let it idle until the fans come on. DO NOT touch the throttle. It may take a while for the fans to turn on, then shut it down. See how it idles after the reset.
Also, the idle will change if you are pulling on the clutch, this is normal.

Re: Head light adjustments 1800

If you look up under the front at the headlights, there are two manual adjustments on each side. One for vertical adjustment and one for horizontal.
Should be 12mm plastic nuts.

Re: TRANSMISSION WHINE

Probably the alternator whining. My 2004 had it and now my 2012 does it, only louder. More pronounced over 2500 rpm. The newer Wings, 2006 and up have a more powerful alternator that I think turns at a higher speed which would make it even louder. I have heard a lof the the newer cars with a whine a...

Re: Reversal on GL1800 2002

Remove the right side engine cover (where dipstick is). You will see the reverse actuator assembly. Two cables, some linkage, and what looks like a spring. Spray some lubricant all over the spring (silicone will work, or WD 40, messy). Let it sit for a while and try it again. May take a few tries. H...

Re: GL 1800 Hoses

Yes ... that is a lot of mileage on hoses. You might want to start thinking about replacing them. Usually the first one to show problems is the one pictured below. Under pressure it becomes fat and swollen. Unfortunately, replacing all the hoses is not an easy task. The ones under the intake manifo...

Re: GL 1800 Hoses

How many times have you replaced hoses on your car as normal maintenance? 20 years old and 100,000 miles and most are still good.
The biggest problems on the Wings are loose hose clamps, especially the ones under the fuel tank.

It's easy to see if the recall has been done. Just look for the punch marks on the frame above the rear brake fluid reservoir.

Re: Emergency Hazard Flashers

Probably one of the best cleaners is DeOxit D5 by Caig. Cleans, dissolves contaminants and lubricates. Not harmful to plastics. No oily residue left.
More money than some cleaners, but works very well.

Re: Headlights

Use a hair dryer to soften the adhesive before you try to remove the velcro. It actually isn't velcro but called 3M dual lock. The adhesive is much more aggressive than velcro. The good part is, the adhesive may come off almost completely when you remove the dual lock. Peanut butter or vegetable oil...

Re: Stereo quit working.

None of the buttons are stuck. The fuse tests good and when I put it back in everything worked.... Good news. There is a possibility that the radio just LOCKED up. Doesn't happen often, but can. I assume you had the battery disconnected while doing all the other work. The radio does have a memory c...

Re: Stereo quit working.

May sound like a dumb question, but have you checked the fuses? Don't just rely on looking at them. Check the with an ohm meter. I just looked at at diagram for a 2004 and there is a audio/acc fuse listed. Don't forget about checking each radio button for one stuck. You don't say what year the bike ...

Re: Stereo quit working.

Would the plastic that the fog light housing clips to be near anything related to the audio system? If you're talking about the lower cowl that holds the foglights, then, no. One other thing to check, make sure none of the radio buttons may be stuck in. Sometimes all it takes is a piece of dirt hol...

Very possible that one of the plugs on the radio did not seat completely. You will have loosen the shelter again and make sure they snapped in place.

The plug for the rear speakers is under the seat behind the relay box. May be a black 4 pin connector, unless Honda changed the color. Located inside one of the rubber boots.

Re: TPMS LIGHT AGAIN.

If you have the newer VT tool, I think there is a way to check for a failed sensor. It should tell you if it even recognizes the sensor. Sounds like a very weak battery that may recover slightly after the bike sits for a while.

Re: Antenna tears in motorcycle cover

We took white pex water line of a size suitable to slide snuggly over the antenna when folded, cut a notch up one side to let it slide past the antenna, and cemented an end cap for the water line on one end. These can be kept in the trunk, and slid over the antennas (both of them) to create a smoot...

Re: Air Bag recall - Dodgy/incompetent Dealer??

It is a fairly common problem on the 1800's. Moisture and dirt collects and the switch may not return to the normal position or the grease in the switch dries out and causes the problem. The cruise, reverse and fog light switches are also prone to this 'failure'. The dealer is actually doing you a f...

Re: Emergency Hazard Flashers

Do you have the trim strip removed on the left side removed? I forgot that you could remove the pocket on the 2005 without removing the strip. The screw is located underneath it. Start to gently pry the strip off from the bottom. Use a rocking motion back and forth to release the little clips. to re...

Re: Emergency Hazard Flashers

You can remove the panel that the hazard switch is mounted in, one allen head screw and it will pull out. Two small screws hold the switch to the panel. It's strange that the switch is not operating normally if it latches in and out. Most of the time it will stick in the ON position. You can try spr...

dont just check the timing belts, replace them. a broken belt will bend valves 8-) I agree with the timing belts. If the mechanic is actually going to remove the timing belt covers to check the belts, he is halfway to replacing them. Just to check the belts he has to remove the lower fairing and mo...
