Re: GL1100 head gasket replacement

Rbgershon's advise is spot on about the heads being flat. It was a bit expensive but I took mine to a machine shop and they milled the heads flat. About $80. Great piece of mind since I read several posts about the heads still leaking after new ones were installed just due to warped, or un-flat head...

Re: 1982 GL1100 Fan

I'm kinda following along here and just want to make sure of what your problem is. I have attached this pic. Thermostat.gif Number 11 is the thermostat switch assembly and I had one of these fail on my 82. Unfortunately when it did the bike got too hot and I ended up having to replace the head gaske...

Re: New to GoldwingDocs withan 83 GL1100A Aspencade

WTF???? so the rear master cylinder controls both a front and rear brake? Who thought of this? Does everyone leave it stock or what? Yep, the 83 1100s came with an integrated brake system that works off the foot petal. That controls the rear and one of the front calipers (the right side I believe),...

Here is kind of a dark picture of those exhaust pipes. There is black background with the chrome cover and it really looks good. Different from most any other exhaust.

Re: "New" Ride

Actually, yes it does. The '99 is mechanically sound but it is somewhat cosmetically challenged. I knew the bike had been dropped, but what I didn't know is portions of the tupperware support structure are deformed to the extent that some attachment points are off enough to cause mounting tabs to f...

I rode today to listen to my new stereo. Cranked it up and listened to Gerry Rafferty at 45 degrees. Got some numb fingers but still a good ride.

Re: size of 1500 screw

If all else fails and you continue to strip the screw, even using an impact driver, you could try using a dremel and cutting wheel to make a flat head indentation to get it out. I've had to do it several times.

Re: Starting from scratch

That bike really looks good. Nice attention to detail and all I have to go on is one picture. And it is a really nice picture. Makes nice wallpaper.

The pipes look fine but I wish you had the OEMs. They are so cool.

Re: How cold will ya'll ride?

Me and my Wing (sounds like a tune) made it to -17*F about 5 years ago. No elec. heat, just good clothing. In that low temp. a few oz. of MMO thins it a little for easy starting. I also used a propane torch on the oil pan. Tires were STIFF!!! so I rode several miles cautiously until they warmed up ...

Mid 90s 1500 Rear Speaker Mounts

If you have one of these is there any reason that the speaker mounts would not fit onto an 1100 trunk? I have about 5-6" to work with. I assume that the arm rest part will just bolt into the trunk, either the base of the lid. Hoping that it will take a 4" speaker with 2" of depth.

Re: Just acquired a 1983 GL1100 Interstate

200,000 miles. That is incredible. I poked around for the info at the Randakk site about long-time storage but couldn't find it. Will keep doing that. I like their stuff. I love their fuel filter. Keeps the crap out of your carb and cleans out easily to keep on keeping on. Let me know if you don't h...

Re: Just acquired a 1983 GL1100 Interstate

I picked up my 1100 on a trade a couple of years ago for a bike I had very little money in. Mine had not ran for quite a while but was in excellent condition body-wise. I have spent well over $2500 to get it running right, newer motor due to a hydro lock and some creature comforts. So I can confirm ...

Re: Looking for matching rattle can paint

I really liked the Spray Max 2k paint and I think that you can get it color matched. I used the one with the clear coat mixed in. Did a job on a Suzuki GS750 tank. Came out better than a couple of spray gun parts I've done.

As long as I have the money for a new tire and $40 I will have them mounted. I've done it and the experience will not be repeated. Even if I had $700 for the tool.

Re: Progressive springs

Slick tool. I cut off the handle from an old shovel and put a big groove in it the size of the air fitting. The first one broke, but the second one worked. Had to get the wife to push down the thing while I threaded it in. Finally got it to thread. BTW I've started out not using any air in the shock...

Re: Rear Shocks and front forks

You're probably getting crickets here because I doubt that very few people think about replacing the front end of the Gold wings. They are pretty stout and can be adjusted quite a bit with progressive springs, different weight oil and air adjustments. That being said we have to consider what these b...
