Re: Charging Question

Yes. I actually had bypassed the old connector and soldered the connections. Had to cut them to test. Missed that step at first. No continuity. Oh well. Gold Witch strikes again.

Re: How to replace your speedometer cable/speedometer itself

As Wilcoy said, just unscrew the cable behind the speedometer, and on the wheel is a screw. Be careful unscrewing that small bolt at the wheel and not strip it. I had to use the hammer thingy to get mine off. May hit it with PB Blaster before you try. I would also lube the new cable.

Re: Charging Question

I'm going to read up on the poor boy. One quick question about that, do I loose my lower fairing doing that?

Edit: No need to answer that, I just looked at a tutorial. The conversion is not quite the task of removing the motor, but still could be a PIA.

All three wires when connected to the battery ground have continuity. OMG, what a job ahead.

Charging Question

I believe that I have a battery problem as it is having trouble holding 12v. The service manual says that to test the stator you need continuity between all three of the yellow wires coming out of it. I do have continuity, so is that definitive? Not that it matters but the stator is only about 2 yea...

Re: Photo Tag ---Anyone want to play?

Got out last night and got the oil rig. http://goldwingdocs.com/UserImages/Hoosier-Jack_68891/Hoosier-Jck_5924/IMG-0590_16918.jpg Took a long ride and went through the small town of Merom, IN. They were having their annual festival. they call it a Chautauqua, probably an Indian reference. The painte...

You're going to feel better riding in the day time too. These things are bright and since I installed mine I have not had anyone pull out in front of me. (Knock on wood) I never have people blink me either. I think that since there are so many vehicles with them now, and they are so bright, other dr...

Re: ticking sound

My motor is an 82 with about 24k on it and it sounds that way most of the time. My valves are fine too, along with the timing and pretty new head gaskets. The last 1100 I had ticked too. There is a lot of mechanical noise from the motors so I quit worrying about it. Doesn't give you an excuse not to...

I don't think I would buy one without comparing pictures of the bolt holes. My bet is that the 750 backrest is too narrow.

I think a lot of people put on Harley tips. Easy to find since Harley guys rarely keep their stock pipes. Look in the dumpster behind the local Harley shop. :D

Re: My baby won't crank.

Something easy first. Take all four plugs out and crank it over and see if gas comes flying out of the cylinders. Make sure you don't have a hydro-lock. Do this where you don't care where gas flies because if it is there it will go everywhere.

Re: Carb problems (fuel filter, stablizer?)

If this turns out to be a fuel filter, order one from Randakk. Mine cost around $20 and can be cleaned over and over. Great design. Also, most of these older bikes do well adding a few ounces of transmission fluid per gas fill-up. Helps lubricate and keep your carbs clean. I do it every time and hav...

Re: Amp Control Settings

I really hate it when someone starts a post, gets an answer, then we never find out if things worked out. Guilty. I had multiple problems with the amp and it went back twice to Kenwood. I finally decided not to use it on the motorcycle and instead installed it in my truck. It works fine there and I ...

I've had a couple of 1100s and I don't know what a turn signal buzzer is. Must be something else you're seeing. But then I haven't had an Aspencade and there is a thread referring to one. BTW you're right down the road from me and I ride there all the time. I rode down to Clay City on Saturday but i...

Re: 1982 GL1100 - is it worth getting it rideable?

If your bike has been sitting for many years then you will probably have a great deal more to do than replacing the motor. Brakes, electrical, suspension, carburetors and more. I feel like the investment in time and money is worth it, but then I have an 82 and have put quite a bit of both into mine....

Re: Brake issues 82 GL1100 I

This is something that you don't want to mess around with. You, or someone, has got to get intimate with your brakes. Sounds to me like you need to rebuild the master cylinders and the calipers. And probably change the brake lines. Does this sound like throwing money, and parts, at the problem? Yep,...

Re: Moonshine Illinois run

I found the web site on the run. https://moonshine-run.com/Moonshine/

I have heard about it for a while and I'm planning on going especially since it is only 30-40 minutes away. The Richards restaurant they mentioned has a great foot thick pork chop. Well, it seems like it. Hope it warms up some.
