Re: Popping on deceleration

The smoke on start up is normal, especially if you park it on the side stand, Oil seems past the rings and will burn off on start up,

The F6B didn't come with a center stand unless you bought the F6B Delux.

Re: 2009 questions.

That sounds like a fair price for an 09. But as others have said, check it out to see if the recall has been completed and for maintenance. Look at the clutch and brake fluids thru the sight glass and you can tell if they have been changed, if the breake recall has not been completed you can have th...

I would say you need anew cable and sheath, I would try that before the expense of a new speedo unit.

You should be able to get a nice 1800 with $10,000, probably an 08 or near that.

Re: INTERCOM

The mute lowers the volume of the radio when you talk on the intercom, different setting mutes it at different levels. If it is set to sensitive wind noise will trigger it to mute. the volume is just like the volume on the radio, it raises and lower the volume You can probably find a download of the...

Re: Death wobble

As stated in above, there are several reasons for it but most are easy to fix. I never had a wobble on any of the 3 1500's I owned but had it on my 02 wing. but not my 08 wing
Good luck and let us know what you did to get it fixed

Re: no sound in rear helmet

Thank you for the answer. I remember now that you mentioned it, J&M sold a volume control for the passenger, it would lower the volume but as you said, the passenger could not increase it over what the driver had it set at, just lower it.

Re: no sound in rear helmet

There is a volume control for the passenger but I think that is only for the intercom. I have only rode 1 up since 2001 since my wife hurt her back so I'm not sure of anything with the passenger system

Re: tires gl 1500

like oil, everyone has their favorites. I used Dunlops for a long time on several different bikes, I switched to Bridgestones and really liked them. I'm not sure but I THINK Honda is Bridgestones on the new wings.Someone with a new wing can chime in with the correct information on that. Also many ri...

Re: Panniers / trunk weight capability

But I would think most owners never weigh what they put in the trunk or bags. The main thing to worry about is if you have a trunk rack do not put a lot of weight in the bag as it could crack the trunk lid. Honda says the max weight for the 1500 Wing is about 408 lbs. Rider, passenger and all your c...

Re: Am I missing something (petcock)??

When the 1500 first came out a friend of mine was one of the first to purchase one. It did not come with the auto shut off valve. It was later added by Honda but I don't remember if it was a recall of service bulletin. Strange indeed.My88 did have one..the bike never saw a dealer for a recall to th...

I'm not trying to bash any particular tire brand, but it seemed to me that the Dunlops were way noisier than the Bridgestones the more they wore.
Dunlops are known for howling in corners, even with very few miles on them.

this is a popular oil to use, takes care of your Transmission gears at the same time, from Honda they all run in the same oil bath. https://www.amazon.com/Shell-ROTELLA-Synthetic-Diesel-550045347/dp/B01LH7L0KS/ref=sr_1_4?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1522617053&sr=1-4 But it's Synthetic oil and I don't ...

Re: Glitches on GL 1800's ??

As others have stated, there were several recalls and service bulletins on the early 1800 wings. 05 up had fewer problems. If I was looking for a good used wing I would not go older then an 08. Also the wings with the comfort package, heated grips and seat had lots of problems with them failing. Whe...

I have installed many CB units on1500 and 1800 Gold Wings and always just but the Honda antenna and I have never used a meter and all of then have worked great. A friend did buy a SWR meter when he put the CB in his 1800 and the Honda antenna was right on, we also checked 3 or 4 other 1800's with th...

Your opening a touchy subject here, might also ask what tires are best. everyone has their own thoughts on the matter. I have used 3W30 and 10W 40 when I had a 92 wing, ran it 108,000 miles with no problems before I sold it to buy a 98 SE. Fram filters have been known to be less than desirable. I al...

Re: Oil and coolant

Oil and filter are cheap, I would change it every 6 months even if the miles are not there. When you have the oil changed in your car they put that sticker on your windshield it has miles and time. usually 3000 miles or 3 months. and as other have stated, 2 years for anti freeze and brake and fluid ...

Thanks for the help. No wonder why I didn't find it. I kept looking around the trunk area parts. That is pricey. I will have to see if there is way to make a knob.

Re: Identifying an ABS model

I read several years back that people were UP BADGING their vehicles. They might have a lower price model and put a badge from a more expensive model. For instance an SE with a LIMITED badge on it. I guess you have to be careful and check out everything you can.

Re: Identifying an ABS model

DID NOT have ABS but doesn't the bikes with ABS have a light on the dash that lights up when you turn the key on??? Yes, but that wouldn't keep someone from putting ABS badges on one to try to sell it as with ABS. I agree with you, you would hope that a wing rider, or any other motorcycle rider wou...

Re: Identifying an ABS model

My 02 was NOT ABS. But if I remember correctly the caliper cover has the letters ABS on it They can be changed. The ABS covers fit the same as ones without the ABS badge. I agree I guess if they were damaged the owner could change them and not put the ABS decal on them. Again, anything is possible....

As curtm said, the early ones from Honda had a transformer and they were known to go bad, which might explain why it works when hooked straight to the battery.
