Re: Blackwing Fork brace Installtion

When I had my 1988 GL1500 the ride was excellent when you got moving at any speed, but the initial start moving was always impacted by a bit of wheel wobble when you started off. After research then purchase and installation of a second hand Blackwing superbrace the difference was immediate with a m...

Re: Nasty spark plugs

An awful lot of "Rusty water" - does not sound good for your motor. Have you replaced the head gasket on that side recently - if so it may not be doing its job - you should re-inspect the head gasket and see if it needs to be replaced or discover why the cylinder had that amount of "rusty water" imho.

Re: Compression readings....

I would expect a slight difference with WOT or not - but probably not measurable enough to read on your gauge. I would try a dry and wet test with all plugs out and WOT - and doing that on a warmed up motor as well - cold motor is not really indicative. You might want to set your valves if the readi...

Re: Help!! Bike shuts down then starts

Or a dodgy main fuse - but that doesn't explain the lights not dimming - a better guess would be the ignition and kill switch - being faulty or loose connector..

Re: I won't give up

Thanks - will see what I can do - I'm not much of a video taker or picture taker lol. I should have taken a video of my most recent ride going up and back the Putty road in NSW... it's a nice ride but avoid weekends because of the squids..and there is a nice cafe stop in the middle of the ride at ab...

Re: I won't give up

Press the key in and gently turn it - see if it will turn back to the left or right - maybe squirt a bit of penetrating oil down beside the key might help as well.

Re: Where’s this leaking oil coming from?

Wiping under the valve cover with a rag will soon determine if it is oil or something else. Again you can check the tightness of the cover bolts - but as mentioned do it carefully - I had 2 stripped holes on the right hand side which needed to be heli coiled - and I also replaced the old rubbers on ...

Re: Where’s this leaking oil coming from?

Your pictures seem to indicate the valve cover gasket - can you carefully tighten the valve cover bolts - see if they need to be tensioned - but be careful-they are easy to strip threads in the head.

You might also need some new seals.

Looks exactly like the one I had and sold.

Nice colour and yours looks to be in very good condition. You can maybe adjust the seat backwards a little bit which might make it feel a bit more comfortable.

Re: Steering head bottom bearing removal/race removal

Got mine out on a CX500 Turbo with a large screw driver with a smashed handle, bent the tip over in the vice by applying some heat and it had enough lip on it to hammer the race out.

Re: Stuck brush in the starter again.Idea needed

I have used a product - not sure if it available in USA or not - it is called LANOSHIELD - it's basically sprayable wool grease - non-conductive and puts a layer over the components - it's also safe for processor boards. It will protect and pretty sure you will never have that problem again.. Here i...

Re: Antifreeze leak?

More than likely due to the cold the hoses may have shrunk the smallest amount, and the coolant has leaked out - pretty easy to identify - just look under the bike and trace the source - if required - tighten up the hose clamps.

Re: What in the...please don't say head gasket

I'd probably try and discover where the coolant came from - and see if it still leaking - either from the radiator - hoses - thermostat housing etc before panicking too much. But if the whitish smoke persists - it could be coolant in the cylinders - being burnt off.... so eliminate where it is comin...

What was the old clutch pack like - any photos - as when disassembled it would have provided some clues as to what your issue was.

Re: Temp gauge?

Maybe your thermostat is not opening at all - does your radiator cap get hot ? Maybe your water pump impeller is not working. Maybe your system is clogged. 1. Open the radiator cap - expect a small amount of coolant to run out, start the bike and let it warm up - if you rev the bike a bit - you shou...
