Re: time to replace the tire

18th week of 2016 - so not that old - but as mentioned - probably time to get another one - if you want some form of comfort in knowing a new one will give you peace of mind.. cheers (posted from a guy that was running an 8 year old tyre on a valkyrie- replaced with a darkside car tyre) - and did ha...

Re: time to replace the tire

Probably OK to extract the nail and insert an internal patch. But look closely at that crack - how old is the tyre ??

Re: Fuses keep blowing?

Saw something similar in a house a long time ago, instead of a piece of fuse wire in the circuit - there was a 4 inch nail routed thought the fuse - it was replaced very shortly after.

Re: 1999 Goldwing SE battery fail

I would check the alternator output and monitor the battery voltage - to see if it is charging. Or you could have an electrical short which is draining the battery.

Re: 1989 GL1500 Aspencade cooling fans not coming on when hot

Ground the fans directly, that will confirm they are not burnt out.

Then the thermostatic switch can be tested - between the two you will find your answer.

Trying the Dark side :)

As the title suggests I am giving the Dark side a try to see if I like it. The rear tyre on my Valkyrie was 8 years old and on the last few occasions when maybe pushing moderately hard the rear was tending to slide out in corners. Checked the rear tyre and discovered it was 8 years old - I have pers...

Valkyrie Rear Shock absorber bushes

Hi guys, When I had my rear tyre replaced recently the mechanic mentioned I needed new shock absorber bushes on both rear shocks - he showed me one of them, but he didn't have the replacement parts. I ordered the 4 bushes from Honda - $20.85 for 4. Just replaced them this morning and used some red r...

Re: What's Happening Today?

Been travelling for a few weeks for work, and have come to the conclusion I need a new rear tyre on the Valkyrie. Rang a few motorcycle local dealers yesterday, to see if they could get the tyre changed for me and also if they would swap it to a car tyre. Of the 3 I called - one took three minutes t...

Re: 91 aspencade heavy front dive on forks when braking

You may not see any oil leakage as all the oil could have come out over time. Grab the front brake and push the bike down, is it hard or soft to do this - also if it is too soft I would try adding some oil first. But does sound like your forks need to be overhauled - may as well do seals and check t...

Re: Blackwing Fork brace Installtion

When I had my 1988 GL1500 the ride was excellent when you got moving at any speed, but the initial start moving was always impacted by a bit of wheel wobble when you started off. After research then purchase and installation of a second hand Blackwing superbrace the difference was immediate with a m...

Re: Nasty spark plugs

An awful lot of "Rusty water" - does not sound good for your motor. Have you replaced the head gasket on that side recently - if so it may not be doing its job - you should re-inspect the head gasket and see if it needs to be replaced or discover why the cylinder had that amount of "rusty water" imho.

Re: Compression readings....

I would expect a slight difference with WOT or not - but probably not measurable enough to read on your gauge. I would try a dry and wet test with all plugs out and WOT - and doing that on a warmed up motor as well - cold motor is not really indicative. You might want to set your valves if the readi...

Re: Help!! Bike shuts down then starts

Or a dodgy main fuse - but that doesn't explain the lights not dimming - a better guess would be the ignition and kill switch - being faulty or loose connector..

Re: I won't give up

Press the key in and gently turn it - see if it will turn back to the left or right - maybe squirt a bit of penetrating oil down beside the key might help as well.

Re: Where’s this leaking oil coming from?

Wiping under the valve cover with a rag will soon determine if it is oil or something else. Again you can check the tightness of the cover bolts - but as mentioned do it carefully - I had 2 stripped holes on the right hand side which needed to be heli coiled - and I also replaced the old rubbers on ...

Re: Where’s this leaking oil coming from?

Your pictures seem to indicate the valve cover gasket - can you carefully tighten the valve cover bolts - see if they need to be tensioned - but be careful-they are easy to strip threads in the head.

You might also need some new seals.
