Re: 83 1100A Stator testing

I am working on a 1983 GL1100A with a bad stator, a guy down the road has some engines out of the frames. If i check the stators on these engines using this method, and they check out, are they sure to be working? It is a lot of work to put in a poor stator. You can only do an ohm test if the engin...

Re: GL1100 engine removal & missing bolts

Pull the spark plugs to prevent hydrolock but you can put the oil (a couple tablespoons) down the intake port. Then turn by the crank bolt on the front.

Re: GL1100 engine removal & missing bolts

Definitely put some oil in the cylinders and turn the crankshaft, not the drive shaft. Then cover every opening.

Does it go away or change if you pull in the clutch? You didn't do that in the video.

Re: Neon coil on gl1000...any new info?

The neon coil was my idea and it works very well on 1100s and 1200s but as you see very little feedback on 1000s. A ballast resistor is probably a must, what ohm value I don't know and what effect it will have on spark intensity I don't know either. I have just acquired a non running 1000 and if It ...

Re: GL 1100 starter Click w/out starting

Have you a volt meter? If so connect the + lead to the terminal on the starter, - lead to the battery ground and push the button. Does it show at least 10 volts?

No, it will not "slam" out without removing the bottom bolt. You can drive screws into the seal and pull it out.

Re: GL 1100 starter Click w/out starting

A hydro-lock will clear itself after a while, the fuel, or coolant if a headgasket is leaking, that flooded the cylinder will leak past the rings into the oil or if the exhaust valve leaks a little into the exhaust.

Re: When should I replace my 1983 timing blets?

.a friend has 142k on is 1500 and no problems But when a problem happens the damage can be pretty bad. I bought an 83 back in 06, the owner had it for 13 years if I remember right and it had 120,000+ on it. He said "I never had any problem with them". I hauled it home and didn't ride it until I cha...

Probably hydro locked. Lucky if you didn't bend a rod. Pull the spark plugs and it will probably spin right over, spitting gas about 20 feet.

If you get a click it's not the switch. Could be the starter or it could be hydro locked.

Also spark plugs have no fire. If I take positive to relay starter will engage and turn motor.
If you are only getting 4v to the starting system it could be the ignition system is not getting enough voltage to fire.

Re: Can I tow my GL 1200 in neutral?

I will agree it is better to trailer it than tow it with the rear wheel on the ground, probably not a good plan for anything if it can be avoided. My argument was with WingAdmin's statement that the oil pump pumps oil to the transmission, it doesn't, at least not directly.

Re: Circuit breaker

This is an aspencade and have not seen anything on the drawings for a curcuit breaker. Also I am only showing about4 volts on my yellow/ red wire some relay is not picking. What I should have asked more plainly is what exactly is it connected to? There is no circuit breaker from the factory but who...

There is no 86 standard so using a standard wiring diagram could cause confusion.

Re: Can I tow my GL 1200 in neutral?

Yes it does, and it also doesn't show that it is from the oil pump, because it is not. You can see from the diagram that it flows from that shelf just by gravity. I have pictures from inside the case but again the forum keeps telling me they are too large. Don't know what happened to my post if you...

HI, 78 GL1000. I did some research in the forums, and I'd like to run these numbers by you and see what it tells you about the status of my charging system. At idle, 1100 rpm, I'm showing 14.6 volts at battery. At 3000 rpm I'm showing 15.10 volts. If I test the black regulator to positive battery t...
