Re: O/D light,Switch Location

With the obnoxious ammout of torque in the 1500 I only need 3 gears... 1st....to get it moving.. 3rd...to wind it up.. 5th...to blow past all the others. :P That's good Virgil! :D I often (usually) go 1,2,3,5 when starting from a stop. When I come out of 3rd it is usually about the speed I will be ...

Re: 2000 GL1500 Final Drive Fluid

My local Honda stealership charged me $62.59 to replace my final drive oil in my 1997 GL1500, $52.50 for labor, $4.31 parts and $5.25 for shop supplies. Thought the cost was a bit excessive and want to confront the owner, he knows he has got you buy the **** and will tell you to go somewhere else i...

Re: Getting a 93 Aspencade running after 4 years sitting

Your engine temp sounds normal to me. It is not getting any air flow through the radiators with it sitting on the center stand. It will likely heat up a little past half way until the fans come on then it will cool down enough for them to go off if everything is working right. Riding down the road, ...

Re: Body part fitment

Another possibility is the clip that goes over the front of the radio housing when installing it on the bike might not be in place. I found mine that way when I first got it and someone posted this picture to show me what could be wrong... and that was it on mine. The small panel that fits around th...

Re: SHORT LEGS !! - BIG PROBLEM ???

When he comes to a stop he should move forward on the seat toward the narrower part. That will help him reach the ground easier. Did the people that worked on his seat cut it down narrower at the front? That will let him get his legs closer together and therefore able to reach the ground easier.

Re: black dash trim treatment

I have been using the 303 Aerospace Protectant on my dash and other black plastics on the bike. It does a good job of restoring the black color and gives it a light shine. I like the way it makes the trim look. I got mine at Walmart but Amazon and a lot of other places have it.

Re: LCD / Air Pump Problems

I think the fuse he is referring to is fuse #13 in the fuse box. It is a 5 amp fuse labeled "Back Up". It is under the relays and not with the other group of fuses. You will probably have to loosen or remove the left saddle bag to be able to access them.

Re: Tires Tires Tires so confusing

Well these tire threads will get you a lot of differing opinions on which tire to use. I guess I'll get it started by saying which tire I use and have for many years. I have been using the Avon tires for a lot of years with good results on wear as well as quiet running. They used to make the Avon Ve...

Re: Getting a 93 Aspencade running after 4 years sitting

Some bikes are harder to get on the center stand than others. I have a 94 1500SE that I can get on the stand easily. It is the easiest Goldwing I have ever had to get on the center stand. I also have a 2000 1500SE that is a bear to get on the stand. I usually just roll the rear wheel onto a 1x4 boar...

As you may know, those lcd screens for our 1500s are not available anymore from Honda. However, another company has started making them and they have some good reports about how they work. Here is a link to their site for the screen. If you feel you are capable of replacing it yourself, the new scre...

The connector for the gearshift sensor is C59. It is a black 6 pin connector located above the right side fan. As Dave said, it is not likely the trouble but you are grasping at straws now.

Re: 1999 GL1500SE Bad Low End Performance and Surge

Did you check all the vacuum lines while you had the carbs out? There are a few more under that mat that is under the carbs. One of them has a 90° bend in it that is notorious for having a leak at the bend. A vacuum leak will definitely cause it to surge while idling.

Re: add fuel pump relay to the 1500

Maybe the easiest place to get to the power feed to the ECU and coils is behind the right side inner fairing cover. It is C54, a white 4 pin connector, near the ECU. The black/white wire is the one you want. If you trigger your relay with that wire, the pump will turn off when you turn ignition off,...

Re: Noise and would not move.

My first thought is the splines in the rear wheel are worn out. I would pull the rear wheel off and check those splines for wear. That area is very often neglected for routine servicing. Those splines and teeth need some Moly paste every tire change... or at least check them for wear and that they s...

You are so right Dave. Those how-to articles you mention are valuable resources for doing maintenance on these Goldwings. Re: G1500 Front Break Replacement- Both sides yes or no

I don't see any compelling reason to replace both sides at the same time either. As you said, they operate independently anyway. You do however need to replace both pads in the same caliper at the same time, which shouldn't be any problem since they are sold as a set.

Re: 1997 GL1500 SE Weird clutch noise when clutch released

Doesn't sound terribly difficult. Reason I'm curious is mine is also a little noisy when the clutch is released but quiets down when you pull it in. snip.... All the GL1500s I have been around sound like that. Noisy when idling in neutral with clutch out and quiets down when you pull the clutch in....

Re: 1500 OEM radio cover

I usually don't put the cover on mine unless it is raining or if it will be outside overnight while traveling. Even then I don't put it on if the weather is good. Those buttons and knobs have some weather protection to keep from getting water down in the radio but over time that may deteriorate so I...

You might want to try realigning the forks. Maybe something is off and they are not completely parallel to each other. Take a look at this video that shows what needs to happen. All the same bolts need to be loosened as what he is doing on another bike.

Yes it is possible, maybe even likely, the clutch plates are stuck. But he still needs to find where the fluid is going and fix that.

No. The ECU has to see a ground from the side stand or else it will kill the ignition if you put it in gear.

Ooops. Dave beat me to it.

Re: Jumps and stalls when put in gear

I think I would take a look at the slave cylinder and see if you see any signs of brake fluid around there. That fluid had to go somewhere. It would probably be a good idea to take it off and clean it up anyway and replace the seals in it.
