Make sure you didn't accidently hit the kill switch with your thumb when you dismounted.
It's been known to happen but rarely admitted to.

Re: Strange knock at idle at 1/8 speed of engine
Could someone have used the stator/generator bolt to turn the engine over for some service? And went too far, then maybe tried to reverse it and loosened up it?
Some warn not to turn it counterclockwise but only clockwise as it can loosen it then back out and cause a rattle.

Re: 1100 Push cable
It sounds like maybe the new push cable is misrouted or it or the pull cable is binding. With the bike turned off check the action at the throttle grip for full/complete/ easy operation at the rear of the carbs. If correct, when you open the throttle all the way at the grip and let go it should snap...

Re: Replacement Exhaust
Hello everyone, so I'm getting around to working on my 1977 Gl1000 and would like to replace the exhaust the previous owner put on it. The headers he put on appear to be warped and don't sit correctly so exhaust gasses come right out of it. Any information on replacement headers and mufflers would ...

Re: Fuel mileage, miles on bike, needle jet size
Something is not right, My 82 GL 1100 would consistently run 160- 180 miles per tank and typically refill with 4 to 4.5 gallons. I don't ride to get good mpg and usually cruise at around 75 mph on the highway. I tend to be kind of throttle happy and wind it out thru the gears pretty often. Mine alwa...

Re: 76 gl1000 kick start "option" ?
Nope,
1975, 1976, and 1977 all came factory equipped with an emergency back up kickstart lever and mechanism.
1978 and 1979 model did not.
The kick start lever alone can bring $100. used
That being said, the kickstart option wouldn't sway me to pay a premium.

Re: Restoration questions
A 76 would hold a slightly better value but both have pluses and minuses. I was where you are a year ago, during the winter restored a neglected 77 that spent the last 12 years in a comatose state. It was fun, educational, frustrating at times, and everything else you can imagine. On the downside, e...

Re: 1975 gl 1000 clutch
I am not a first year production (1975) Goldwing model expert but that sounds untrue to me. I believe there was only one GL 1000 engine from 1975-1979 that only had minor tweeks changed like different camshaft grinds, heads, and possibly gearing (unsure on this). When I resurrected my 77 from a 12 y...

Re: When You're Hot, You're Hot!!
I used to just grin and bear it, but not so much anymore my bike sits in the summertime, sometimes for weeks. Once I rode across the eastern and central plains of the US from south Texas to central Michigan and back in August. I had a cooling vest and Butler cup rigged via plastic tubing with a bite...

Do the plugs smell of fuel? Were they wet?
Sounds like it's running too rich.
If I were to have something done that pricey and it wasn't perfect, I'd take it back.

Old wing values
I'm considering selling my last project bike but values are so low for these things it's ridiculous. I don't want to give away a nice bike. I watch Ebay and Craiglist almost daily and the bids are either very low or get no bidding on really nice restored bikes. I understand these two marketplaces at...

Go to the simple basics of most electrical problems: First things first, check voltage directly at battery terminals and see if it is dead. Check all connections and fuses visually for melted ot burned items. Make sure all lugs and connections in battery/run/start circuit are clean (corrosion free) ...

Hi everybody... Having problem with my Dyna S ? It seems that when I press the right side of the module in the centre with a screwdriver to the back plate, the RPMs rev up and sound nice. The problem is it won`t stay adjusted that way as soon as I let the screwdriver go . It will not idle right...l...

I loved that trip, did it multiple times got the t shirt. I stayed in the Two Wheel Inn right on 129, nice place with built in bike garages. Lots of other cool roads all around there Cherola Skyway, BRP, and even went down into northern Georgia too.

Where is it?
Could be the weep hole for the waterpump.
When the internal seal goes bad, they can drip either oil or coolant depending on which one is bad.

Re: Most frustrating bike ever
You're probably not going to want to hear this. If you have to maintain above 2K rpm to keep it running your idle/slow jets are stopped up. The slides only come into play above idle speed in the power/acceleration circuit. The idle jets in these things are super tiny and hard but possible to clear. ...

They're definitely are a cold natured beast in original stock form, they like a little choke. They are not like modern fuel injected bikes that fire instantly then just let out the clutch and go. Improvements can be made. This is secondhand infomation but many rave about the combo of a pricey C5 ign...
