Re: Scary towing experience

It's probably a good idea for everyone else to search the site and find how and where to strap down your ride if the need should ever arise. I was fortunate the one time I needed to be flatbedded (due to a cracked valve stem) off of the interstate, that the driver was a motorcyclist also and knew w...

Re: Can I tow my GL 1200 in neutral?

I have always felt from day one, that pulling a vehicle with a driveshaft intact is pure idiocy.... I have always dropped the driveshaft off of cars/trucks that I towed. Just pure common sense. What is 15 minutes versus $1ks of bux to repair a transmission? IMO, trying to pull that 1200 with the rea...

Re: HF Haul Master trailers

all of the tires on HF trailers were junk the day they left the store.

I had to replace mine with larger wheels, 5.80x8 which are actually speed rated and heavier sidewalls in the tires.

Re: trailer or hitch rack

I have the rack and a trailer, and will keep them both. 1) if I am just going out for the day and it will be hot, like 85°F or higher, the rack goes with me. It carries an ice chest with water and ice. That is used to soak my Phase Change vest that is used to protect me from having a Heat Stroke. IF...

Re: Scary towing experience

The only thing needed to secure a bike sideways, is a single strap wrapped around the bottom of the rear wheel/tire and secured to both sides of the trailer/tow truck. That allows the suspension to absorb all of the road shock, like it was designed to do in the first place. Straps over the top of th...

Re: Scary towing experience

Kickstand down is a BAD idea! Tying to the trailer hitch IMO is also a bad idea, it is not made to be jerked sideways, I would remove the rear plastic and inspect the trailer hitch mounting to be sure the bolts have not been sheared, and/or the frame of the mount bent. I would call the tow company a...

Re: kuryakyn Highway Pegs Too Heavy?

I keep forgetting about the "Honda recommended" tire pressures, IMO, they are bogus for the "real world" and current tires. IMO, the front tire should be at a minimum of 41, I use 44 psi. the rear tire if a m/c tire should be 44 psi also. in my case, with the Michelin RF ZP the situation is a bit di...

Re: How much do you and your wife weigh?

I have been at 250+ for over 15 years, and while my wife would not ride with me, she ( gasp, saw the same on the doctor's scales ) My son weighs 325-350 or so, and last year I was at 275 and we doubled up and rode quite a bit. the 1800 did not seem to even notice, it is strong hearted, and has very ...

if the bike is daily transportation, and get used every day like my '94SE was back when I rode it to work/back and didn't have a car......... it never saw a Battery Tender. No need from one day to the next. but, now that I am retired, and my activities are much more relaxed, and the bike gets ridden...

Re: Battery Tenders

I have a hard and fast rule. Get off the Bike, PLUG IN THE BATTERY TENDER!!! Why? Because I don't know how long it will be until the next time I go riding, and my bike has a couple of parasitic current drains, while they are very small, will eventually pull the battery down too low to start the engi...

Thought I'd drag this horse out and beat on it some more. Regarding 0W20 oils, I came across this article in the Rock Auto newsletter. It gave me a few laughs, and I thought I'd share it. Re: Alternator options?

the 4 cylinder bikes don't have an Alternator, it is a STATOR.

you need to do some tests to verify the condition of the existing charging system.

several good gurus that can help on that.

if you don't want to fix the OEM system, you can add an alternator, but it is a lot of work.

Re: Shipping Gl1800

even though I used AAA before, I would avoid them now. they transfer over to "local trucks" at each end, and independent carriers on the road. they are nothing more than a dispatcher using independent truckers. no way to guarantee that the bike will be taken care of by experienced m/c movers. in fac...
