Re: Engine swap

I think you have everything you need to fix it up.
just a little spare time, and good to go.

I agree the 97 and later years had a stronger tranny, but why spend money when you have what you need?

Re: New tires and average cost to buy and mount

forget the balance weights, use Dyna Beads and they will remain balanced for the life of the tire. and with beads of any brand, they will NOT cup out providing you keep them aired to max tpsi. I run 44 psi front and rear for m/c tires.... My E3 which was just removed, was worn down to the cords almo...

Re: Rocky Mountain ATV

makes you wonder how they can have all that stuff shipped out into the middle of "no where's ville desert" and still ship it out to us cheaper than anyone else....

maybe their rent is zero??
no warehouse payments, could make a huge difference.

Re: Mini Fridge Review

All RV type fridges benefit from being precooled 24 hours before you need them. I load them with precooled contents also, do NOT expect them to cool down warm stuff, they can, but it will take much longer than you are willing to put up with. I personally think that any of the 12 VDC Koolatron type u...

Re: MC Camper trailer tires are not good

I ended up with about 20-22 psi for the tire pressures. my 1st set of tires had 30ish psi and the center wore out fast, plus the trailer bounced hard. How heavy is your trailer when loaded AZ ? The trailer empty is about 300#, it has a heavy custom axle, hubs, wheels. The box is wood, so not really...

Re: Adding a Trailer

good advice,

the extra light load makes the OEM flasher go too fast.

best to use LED lights on trailers.

Re: trailer hitch

for me, I just made the trailer 5 wire with separate brake lights. wired the original dual bulb "boat trailer style" fixture as a running light and Turn Signal light. did not use an isolator although many prefer to. I wired straight thru from bike light to trailer light, no problems for me at all. m...

Re: What cooler do you have/recommend

just to spice it up a bit, here is my experience with 3 of these things. I used to work on pipelines in the desert southwest, all by myself 99% of the time. I have 3 of those things, a 24 quart used for long trips, it is only good if you set it on the truck's console with the A/C duct blowing straig...

Re: Mini Fridge Review

I have 3 of those things, a 24 quart used for long trips, it is only good if you set it on the truck's console with the A/C duct blowing straight at the fan. They will drop 40* below ambient usually, mine did. so that a/c duct was blowing at 50*F and the cooler dropped into the freezing zone. made m...

Re: What cooler do you have/recommend

the only "fridge" I ever used while camping was in a big RV trailer and it uses propane. on my bike, I just use a good camping ice chest and ice.... the good ones will hold ice for 3 to 4 days, but they won't be cheap. hint: if you can pinch in the lid and make it sink, it is too cheap. the insulati...

Re: MC Camper trailer tires are not good

The tires on my trailer are the Carlisle brand in 5.75x8

a bit larger than the standard 4,80x8 tires, they are speed rated and heavier sidewalls.

mine has about 5,000 miles on them and not showing any wear.

Re: Upgrading next tax season

I can't think of anything that should be a deal breaker as far as the year of the bike.

all of the "frame issues" are now 15 years old and more, so a non-issue now.

my 2002 runs like new and has not given me any trouble.

Re: time to replace the tire

are you referring to the bright spot about an inch from the left edge?

if so, pull the tire, and put a hot patch inside the tire.

should be fine.

what is that crack just up and to the right?

Re: Time for new radio knobs

My 2002 1800 previous owner must have spent over $4,000 on pretty chrome after I bought it, it did not make 10 miles before I had to stop and use a knife to peel most of it off the top of the bike. that crap was everywhere one could find a vendor that sold chrome. i just do not understand that menta...

Re: knocking sound when accelerating

Strange sound when accelerating and high speed - not necessarily knocking, but rrrrrrr sound? 1. I will change oil to a classic motor oil 20/50 I suggest you not use the xx/50 oil, that is too heavy for our bikes, and you are up in the northern climes where the temps don't get high enough to warran...

depends on the condition of your spine...

if like me, L1 - L5 are a mess, the only way I can ride is with a backrest period.

Re: New tires and average cost to buy and mount

I only replace the one that needs it, why throw away a tire with good tread? But, if you are preparing for a long vacation and lots of miles, maybe 2 new tires would make sense. I just installed an Avon RoadRider 130/70R-18 rear tire on the front of my 1800 the rear tire is a Michelin RF ZP and it w...

Re: Best Oil

Amsoil has the Best Hype Machine going, I relate it directly to Harley Davidson's hype machine. Both target an audience. As for oil, their oil is no better than any other equivalent full synthetic. By Federal Law, all oils must be compatible with each other. That don't mean all have the same amount/...

Re: Choosing the best LED driving lights?

I would go with the most lumens you can get, and agree to get a balanced light pattern for a bike. you can adjust the cutoff angle to handle the amount of light that gets into other's eyes. I always adjusted so that the top of the beam hits a sedan in front of me, right at the bottom of their rear v...

Re: Best Oil

The truth of the matter is, as long as the oil does NOT contain Friction Modifiers, it does not matter what brand it is, nor what type vehicle it might have been advertized to be used for. Owned two 1500s and used Delo 400 in 15w40 most of the time, great oil, decent price. As long as you use a visc...

Re: Poor radio Reception ????

just as a matter of comparison,

my '94SE FM radio would pickup signals 70 to 100 miles away in the deserts of Arizona.

that is mostly straight line, other areas will be less, but you should get good reception 25 to 50 miles almost anywhere.

After having pulled my trailer several thousand miles with just a ball hitch, 8-) and then, being coerced into adding a swivel to the tongue, :o I have been made a believer..... a swivel hitch makes towing a trailer "Invisible" because I forget it is there, have to look in the mirror to see if it is...
