Re: Rear tire went flat at 60 mph and a couple questions

For emergency tire inflation, I carry a modified low cost 12 volt portable compressor I bought from Wal Mart many years ago. The benefits... An auxiliary compressor is only about $10. It will fit just about anywhere. It can also be used while the engine is running and will not run down the battery. ...

Re: Rear tire went flat at 60 mph and a couple questions

Hi Stew, From the Honda Gold Wing Owners Manual. Your motorcycle has an on-board air compressor system whose primary function is to allow you to easily adjust the air pressure in your rear suspension (page 44). The compressor also has an auxiliary outlet valve that can be used with an optional Honda...

Re: Man, what a noise!!!

Does anyone know if the guy in Florida that does reground gear sets sell just the gears or do you have to send the bike to him? Honda won't warranty it even though I bought the extended warranty because they didn't do all the oil changes and I don't have EVERY receipt for the oil changes I did. Ser...

Re: Cam tensioner tools

While no noise is normal, keep in mind that the valve lash tightens as it wears, not loosens. So you will not hear any tappet noise. The clearance only gets tighter with age.

Re: Where is air outlet location

But, you are better off not trying to air up a tire unless it only needs a few PSI added. The compressor is too weak to do much else than add air to your suspension. From the Honda Gold Wing Owners Manual. Your motorcycle has an on-board air compressor system whose primary function is to allow you t...

Re: Cam tensioner tools

In the service manual it says "Failure to loosen the cam chain tensioners will result in inaccurate valve clearance measurement, due to the force of the cam chain on the camshaft."
But truthfully, I have not noticed a difference in readings with the cam tensioners loose or not.

Re: Cam tensioner tools

You will not like the price; they are over $75 each and can be obtained from Partzilla (https://www.partzilla.com/). Tensioner holder A - 07ZMG-MCAA300, Tensioner holder B - 07ZMG-MCAA400 Tensioner A is really all you will need. It is the same as Tensioner B but has a rod that can be inserted in the...

A Voyager Trike Kit? Is that the add on rear wheels and the OEM rear wheel stay in place? I do not have personal experience with them but I understand they are not that safe. If,and only if, I were to go to three wheels, I would go with a proper trike conversion, especially if I planned on riding wi...

Re: Headlight wattage

The current draw of the 100 watt lamp will probably damage the wire or the mounting adapters as noted. That being said, it will most certainly have an adverse effect on the mirror finish of the reflectors of the headlight assembly. On my GL1500 the increased heat of aftermarket lamps started to dull...

It was a federal law for all cars, pickup trucks and motorcycles to have only an 85 mph speedometer from September 1979 to March 1982. I do not know how long the manufacturer's actually installed the 85 mph. I can not find a reference to when the law was actually repealed. I believe it was attempt b...

Re: 1999 Goldwing SE battery fail

Ah, yes, I forgot about the internal battery in the 1450 and 1490. The Quest series both had rechargeable batteries so yes, they could be a source of drain. The 2610 and 2720 do not have internal batteries. The GPS III+, GPS V had dry cells. Basically, any aftermarket accessory has the potential to ...

Re: Retrofitting LED Brake, tail and turn signals to GL1500

Seeing things in what looks like series and or parallel is a little deceiving. Electrically, the LED's need to be connected in parallel so that there is full system voltage applied to the LED strips. The would not work if connected in series electrically. All the LED strips on these two pages appear...

Re: 1999 Goldwing SE battery fail

By the way - for those who have aftermarket GPS units on their bikes - even when turned "off", if they're plugged in, they still draw a LOT of juice. I measured the draw rate on one of my Garmin units, and found that in the "off" position (and the screen completely dark) it was still drawing almost...

Re: Spark Plugs, Too Many Choices!

The Original NGK specified plugs are what I prefer.

I've tried Iridium and Platinum and other other manufacture's plugs. I've seen no gain of performance or fuel mileage with any of them. All I've managed to do is lighten my wallet by trying different plugs.

I think you just need to chill and look at the diagram in the book and take a closer look at the bike.

There are "six headlight connectors", four connectors for the lamps and two connectors for the headlight adjusters.

Re: Alternator oil seal?

Is it leaking around or through the alternator?

The large O-Ring is for the circumference around the alternator and the oil seal on the alternator shaft is to keep the oil from going past the shaft into the alternator.

Re: Solution to a spare key

I use a radio knob. I cut the key and epoxy it into an OEM knob. It can not be used to open the trunk or fairing locked lid and can not be used in the ignition but if you lose a key you can take the short key to a locksmith to have him cut you a new one.
