v-Star charging problem

Hi, I have a 2001 Yamaha V-Star 1100. It's a good bike for riding and it looks good. Lately I've had a problem with the charging system. I replaced the stator and rectifier and I still have a problem, not getting the proper voltage to the battery. Has anyone with a V-Star had this problem ?

Re: Trike steering??

I have2 plus trikes and it does take a little bit of work to steer them. A trike doesn't tilt when turning like a bike on 2 wheels so its like a car. You need to use more upper body strength to steer a trike. don't take sharp curves too fast or it will flip. Take it slow and easy for a little while ...

Headlight changeover to LED

I'm wanting to change my 1500's headlights over to LED types, but I run into this question about wiring types I guess. In some information on LED lights it says that some light won't work on PH11,H7,and H11. There are other types given also that they will work on. Does anyone know what type the GL15...

Re: Reverse Problem

I've been so busy with all my bikes that I haven't had time to work on it yet but I will after new years. The bike tries but just moves about 6 inches then stops. When I push the starter switch it will go another 6 inches, on and on. I will get to it soon. I have a total of 9 bikes and some have som...

Re: Battery Maintainer

Thank's a lot. I live here in Texas so I don't have much of a winter most times and I ride almost year around. Sometimes when it's cold but on a wing it's better than on anyother bike. But I use battery tenders when the weather is too bad to ride, and when they sit for a while.

Re: Reverse Problem

The reverse light stays on and it tries to go into reverse but only moves a couple inches and stops, then I hit the starter switch again and it moves another inch.

Re: Battery Maintainer

I start my bikes up and run them at least once a week so this keeps the battery charged and keeps the engine oiled. If I'm not home I use battery tenders to keep the charge up.

Reverse Problem

My 97 GL 1500 is a good running bike but the reverse doesn't work right. It switches into reverse OK but it only goes about a couple inches at a time every time I push the starter switch. It doesn't keep on going like my other wings.

No brake lights

I have a used 1992 GL1500 and I have no brake lights and the turn signals are on dim on the gage panel and all 4 turn signal lights are on dim. I bought this bike used a while ago but it's been too hot in my shop to work on it. Has someone else run across this problem? Also it's a trike.

Trike brake lights

I bought a 1992 GL1500 trike a little while ago and it runs great, but the brake lights don't work. Someone messed with the wiring and the turn signals are lit all the times and no trunk running lights and no brake lights. When it cools off in the shop I'm going to have to go through the wiring harn...

Item replacement

I know that when you replace the timing belts in a ft. wheel drive car it's best to replace the water pump also because it's in that area also. So when the timing belts are changed in a wing is it common knowledge or better insurance to replace the water pump, hoses, thermostat and belt tension whee...

carb & injector cleaner

Hi. I started riding motorcycles in the mid 60"s and I've always added a little carb cleaner to the gas. I heard that you can even add about an ounce of ATF to the gas to help keep the fuel system clean. Not too long ago a friend of mine said that I shouldn't add any gas additive to my gas in the bi...

Trip to Pa.

Hi. I'm thinking of taking a trip to Pa. later this summer and taking one of my GL1500 trikes with me. I'm getting kinda old and my joints don't work as good as they use to. I'm thinking of using a closed trailer to put the wing in and pull it with my truck. That way I have the wing to ride up there...

Noise

I have a 1985 LTD and it runs great, but there is a noise in the right ft. of the engine. At first I thought it was the air pump but I think that it is a timing belt idler that is wearing out. The bike has 66,000 miles + on it. Any thoughts on this and how to check it without tearing the bike apart ...

Loss of power while riding

I have a 1995 GL1500 bike. A good clean and good running bike until you get up to 60-65 mph. then it cuts off. the engine doesn't totally stop but it goes to idle. I can rev it up after pulling over and take off again and I'm good at 55 mph. but when I get to 60-65 mph after a little while it cuts o...
