Re: '89 GL1500 cruise diagnostics

Might also check the connector under the seat. I cant recall which pin is what but I think red and orange are 4th and 5th gear. I know if you switch them around, cruise set limit is no longer 80mph. Could be a bad connection there. Just something else to look at. Harness is on starboard side, under ...

Re: GL1500 mounting a new rear tire

Zip ties and Dawn dish soap make it a lot easier. Also helps to set the tire out in the sun for a little while so its warmed up.

Re: Brake lights not lighting when brakes applied

Id check to make sure power is getting to the socket. If not, keep back-tracking the circuit till power is found. You may have a broken wire between the 2.

Re: Replacing CB Antenna with Firestick

Unless youre planning to install a 102" whip, you wont see much difference. Any loaded antenna (shortened) will be a sacrifice. Even 'no ground plane' antennas require a counterpoise, normally the coax. And theres really not enough coax on a Goldwing for proper counterpoise anyway. You'd need a 1/4 ...

Re: BBG/SS3K

Iron Butt Association has various rides. BBG is Bun Burner Gold (1500mi in under 24hrs). SS3K is Saddle Sore 3000 (3000mi in under 72hrs).
Theres smaller rides too. And lots bigger ones.

I think I still have jet-lag, and never got on the jet. Last weekend, a buddy and I re-embarked on a trip that was botched last Sept due to a tire blow out. We left Ks (a little N of Wichita) at 10:20pm Thur night, and made it to Sparks (Reno), Nv in under the 24hr deadline. 22.5 actually. After a c...

Re: saddelbag removel

Its really not as bad as youd think. Except for the crawling around. The piece under the trunk can be tricky so try not to force it on or off. Also, the clips that hold the release cables to the bag are a PITA. On the rear diff: make sure to crack open the fill port before you take out the drain plu...

I may have that pin. I'll have to look in the Folgers can of misc bolts/clips/parts leftover from a couple similar projects.

During what we call Monsoon season ; there are , maybe , three or four days I can't ride due to high winds , Haboobs (Dust-storms) and heavy rain , but the rest of the time is "Ridin-time" if you can handle the heat .   Free time is devoted to re-loading for my Glock 22 , .40 cal , ...

Re: fixing a flat

Yes, be sure to use Ride-On, NOT Slime. They may (supposedly) do similar, but they are not the same. I cannot attest to its sealing properties (and hope to never find out) but I can say it does its job at balancing very well. Slime does 'ok' for a bicycle tube, or lawn mower tire, but thats as far a...

Sounds like you cheated them out of telling you they need to rebuild the forks (for no good reason).
I dont recall bouncing the front end. Granted, I only have about 3500mi on this front tire but there is no odd wear.

000 or 0000 (depending on the rust) sprayed with wd40 does wonders too. More expensive than water/tin foil tho.

Re: Cup holder

My Kury drink ring hasnt gotten in the way yet. I have it mounted to left perch. Water or garorade is usually in it. Sometimes coffee cup. It mounts solid tho, so no tilting with the bike. Nothing has fallen out of it.
A 20oz Gatorade bottle is about the max diameter it will accomodate.

I use the Kuryakyn Drink Ring, with the beverage holder. The holder pouch is removable if you want or need to. Mounts to either perch. $57 shipped, from Amazon.

Re: replacement stereo for 1990 1500 gl

Ebay usually has a few replacements but be careful. And be be prepared to pay a hefty price. A lot cheaper than a new one tho. I assume you mean your volume is low? Try some electrical cleaner. Or, contact Sierra Electronics and have them go thru it. They know what they're doing. 1 week turnaround, ...

A replacement unit may or may not be any better than what youve got. But Sierra Electronics will fix the problem right. ($125 if I remember right.) You have choices, and theyre yours to make. But if youre planning to spend the money, it might be better spent knowing what youll have when its said and...

A compression check should tell you plenty. If they all read good, then go run the piss out of it to clear it up. Keep an eye on your oil level tho, just in case.
