Re: Fuel capacity

From the fuel neck it is not easy to see the bottom of the tank, the rear part where the fuel pump is deeper and wider, so you probably are not using the full fuel capacity, and refueling before the fuel low light comes on. It is the bulb test done by LCD unit when you turn the ignition key on. Norm...

Re: Fuel capacity

If your fuel gauge is not adjusted you will get a false reading (lower than actual level), but the fuel low light will come on at 1 gallon (3.8 liters) each time. You could bend the float arm down to read the level correctly. Remove the seat, Remove the fuel pump, Locate the float arm with your left...

Re: 1989 GL1500 Aspencade cooling fans not coming on when hot

There are 3 temp sensors on the bike at different locations. 1.Thermostatic sensor on the left radiator for the fans 2.ECT sensor on the right intake manifold for ECU 3.Temp sensor on the thermostat housing for Temp gauge. So can you confirm that the radiators are getting hot while the temp gauge is...

Re: Fuel cap vented or not ??

I have the same on my 89 when I release the fuel cap. you get that hiss. It never caused a problem when riding. I don't have that type of cap with the spigot on the top to vent it on mine. If that sound is because of vacuum it may cause power loss, probably you are experiencing pressure built up in...

Re: 1989 GL1500 Aspencade cooling fans not coming on when hot

Also make sure that the coolant level is ok, and the radiators are hot before deciding on the problem. If the radiators are cold (due to stuck thermostat, insufficient coolant etc.) the fans will not work.

And what do you read on the temp gauge at max?

Re: 1998 WING - CANNOT HEAR THE FUEL PUMP WORKING WHEN THE KEY IS TURNED ON ??

Yes, although the statement in the service manual has not been changed its operation has been changed after 90 models as the ECU controls the fuel pump. I think it was a function of the fuel pump relay (88-89) to cycle the fuel pump a few seconds when the ignition key is on. So it will not cycle on ...

Re: 94 GL1500A wiring harness for radio

If you can't find locally, you may try Aliexpress or EBay to find the correct connector. It is called 6 pin Molex Connector and it has special male and female pins.
If you want a professional result you will need a crimping tool like below.

I have placed only 3 led segment through the bulb housing and hot glued there. If you want to do what I have done, you don't need to remove the lens.

Re: HELP 2 1992 Gl 1500

Possible although it tested ok 😏 I don't know how you have tested the side stand switch but, the culprit seems to be the switch itself in my opinion. The switch has one input (green) and two outputs one to the side stand light on the instrument panel, and the other to the ECU. We know that the grou...

Re: HELP 2 1992 Gl 1500

Find and check the green/white wire for continuity between the side stand switch and the ECU connector. If the wire is good, then check its pins inside the connector (both male and female sides).
Sometimes the pin inside that yellow connector is found to be loose, corroded or bad.

Re: 94 GL1500A wiring harness for radio

For the correct location of the pins and wires you can use the following picture. Note that the connector is shown from the terminal side. Blue is for Aspencade, Red is for SE models. So the pins seem to be in the correct positions in your picture. I had replaced that connector and crimped the new p...

Well, had anew development come up. They got the bike altogether with a good uses driveshaft and the drivesplines, and it turns out there are TWO length drive shafts available. Re: Speedometer

4 parts may cause that kind of noise, 1. Speedo gear (plastic gear in the front wheel gear box is bad or not lubricated enough) 2. Speedo cable is bad or not lubricated enough (graphite is good as lubricant) 3. Speedometer input (brass piece where the speedometer cable is attached should be cleaned ...

Re: Power loss

The earlier models (88-89) have a fuel pump relay, but then this relay is not used on later models and ECU directly controls the fuel pump by a transistor internally. This transistor has a amp rating for the oem fuel pump as you may guess, and if you will use a higher amp rated pump it may toast thi...

Re: Power loss

Kane, one more thing to check is the fuel tank cap. Its vent hole should provide enough atmospheric pressure, otherwise vacuum will occur in the tank, preventing adequate fuel flow.

You could try loosening the fuel cap and check if there is a difference in power.

Re: Wiring issues After tire replacement from local shop.

Check the # 8 tail illumi. fuse in the fuse box on the left side of the bike.
During the rear tire work, + and - ends in a rear lights connector might be shorted.

If the fuse is blown, replace it but if it blows again, don't try again and find the source of the short.

I would visually check inside to be sure about the condition of the tank. So it is quite easy and safe method to remove the fuel pump and siphon the tank using a siphon like below.
