Re: 1994 GL1500 SE has 2 guide bushings on fork?

Probably they are not OEM parts. A picture would help to understand better.

You can find OEM parts on partzilla.com.

Re: How to remove Kurykyn iso grips!

You could remove the four screws at the end of the grip, and reach the glued parts there, then try to separate the parts from each other by using a flat tool.

Re: O/D light,Switch Location

Problem is light comes on only 80% of the time, when it does not come on , can drive a few miles than it will come, Unless loose bulb or bad connection, looks like it would be a job to change, maybe there is a no O/D light in my future Curt To verify if it is a bulb problem or not, you could set th...

Re: O/D light,Switch Location

There is a gear position sensor unit sending gear signal to the ECU and the OD light. The sensor is behind the front transmission cover #7 in the picture, not adjustable I think.

What is the problem with the OD light?

Re: GL1500 won't start till starter button is released

One more thing to consider is that your bike is a 1988 model and its start system and connections are different from later models. Here is a diagram for your bike, to check the connections accordingly if you had done any maintenance or modification job recently. Note that the starter motor has two c...

Re: Amount of brake fluid

I think we can say 60ml (2oz) fluid is used in one brake/clutch set. So we can say at least 240ml (to flush) plus 240ml (to change) of Dot4 is necessary.

Overtorqued screw could cause the damage. A picture of the damage would help us to comment better.

Re: Speedometer

Well, after reading this post as well as searching through the Tech Talk, my situation is a little different as only my odometer seems to not be working. All other instruments are working perfectly, including the speedometer and trip meter. I did not see any link on the 'How-to' (i.e. step-by-steps...

Re: speedo question

These may be the issues I have read and experienced so far. 1.Sticky speedometer needle due to oil/grease collected on the pin where the needle rests on, 2.Stuck aluminum cup due to hardened and collected grease around it (that was the problem on my bike), 3.Similar issues preventing the aliminum cu...

My neutral light says on
Can anyone tell me the neutral switch is situated
There is not a neutral switch but a gear position switch on the right side behind the front engine cover, which provides the gear inputs to the ICU/ECU. Its connector is over the right fan.

Re: Gear indicator

I have built one for my 2000 year bike which can be used on 1990-2000 models, but not on 88-89 models because there is not 1st and 2nd gear inputs on those years.

So you should try a gear indicator operated by the shift movement on your 88 model bike.

You could try a suction pump like below to drain the oil through the oil cap hole.

Re: 1990 goldwing 1500 tach problems

You can only check the continuity of the wires there, green to the ground, and the yellow/blue to the ECU. Note that there are two yellow/blue wires at the ECU connector. Check and clean the contacts, pins in the connectors. If there is not a problem with the continuity of the wires you will need to...

Re: Turn Signal Timing

To my limited understanding.. The flashers will self cancel when any or all of 3 conditions are met. A internal timer has lapsed. The steering has been moved. The speed has reached a predetermined limit. And all are built into the cancler module. If yours is out of specs..Replace it or bypass it. H...

Thanks for the info. The bike runs fine it just has no tach. I guess you are telling me I need to pull the dash apart. Thanks Doc. Yes you will need to remove the instrument cluster to reach the C66 connector, right inner cover to reach the ECU, right glove box to reach the related connector (C72) ...

Re: 1990 goldwing 1500 tach problems

Due to mine surviving the 2016 flood,I am somewhat familiar with it. The tach requires 12 volts, ground and a pulse from one coil. Because yours died,I'd suggest looking for missing power.I don't have the schematic in hand but I'll bet there's a fuse blown. On 90 and later models there are only two ...

Re: 1989 GL1500 Aspencade cooling fans not coming on when hot

I would replace that copper washer, because if it wasn't replaced before, it may be unusable and as you tighten the bolt you may damage the water pump case which will require a lot of work to fix it. You can find it locally or from a Honda dealer if you have the old one with you. The "how to" link i...

There are some threads about the rear wheel rubbing on the right inside of the swingarm. Here is one of them, you may want to read. http://goldwingdocs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7105 Normally, if everything was new and correct, you would not have such an issue, you would just push the axle and it wo...
