Re: Trailer build (or stuff I do in my spare time)

Thanks so much for your answers. It looked like you had a very nice setup, and I hate reinventing the wheel if I don't need to! I'm probably going to use a bunch of your ideas. Given the CPAP I use, I'll probably wind up building (or getting one of my power supply engineer friends to design and I b...

Re: Trailer build (or stuff I do in my spare time)

Sorry to hear about the health issues; I hope the surgery comes out well for you. It never occurred to me to cannibalize a UPS! Oddly enough, I've got a 500VA unit that's about to be retired; not enough life in the batteries to keep the network and cell tower running during a long Vermont power out...

12080300_153582841658665_2734353646808679352_o.jpg Are you using an off-the-shelf inverter/UPS, or something you designed and built? I'm VERY interested in your solution as I need a CPAP to sleep, and I'd like to be independent of "shore power" if I decide to camp off-grid. Would you be interested ...

Re: Spacing between forks and disks?

Best I can come up with is that there's a fork tube bent. A slight push of the axle in from the right side (while pulling the fork out a bit) evens it out if you tighten the pinch bolts quickly, but not on it's own. I'm at about 1/8" both sides at the rotors, about 1/16th at the bolts on the rotors....

Spacing between forks and disks?

Anyone tell me if their disks are perfectly centered between the front forks, or are they slightly off with more on the throttle side than the clutch side? I'm running maybe .030 on the clutch side, and about 1/8" on the throttle side. Is this what others have? Just swapped bearings, things driven i...

Re: New tires, balancing beads, front end bouncing

Figured out what was causing MY bouncing. Put a new tire on the front....and noticed a big dent in the rim. Looks like someone hit something on one side. The other side is only 1/2 as big of a ding, but I'd say it was 1/8" on the right, 1/16" on the left (out of round, that is). We'll keep our eyes ...

Re: How to rebuild your front forks

Fork tube drain bolts....if they strip or won't come out...don't fret. I mean you can freak out...it's what "I" just did when the first one stripped out. The 6mm socket hole wasn't perfect from the last guy to take it out...I just made it worse when it wouldn't even budge with a 18" breaker bar. My ...

Re: How to replace your steering head bearings

This weekend is steering and wheel bearings, new brake rotors and braided lines, as well as a full fork rebuild. There's a new front ME888 tire waiting to go on as well. In for a penny and all that.
Interesting look with all the front guts off.

FS: J&M front Speakers, eBay stereo mount GL1500

Pair of front J&M speakers (Model 40-410) and one of the single DIN stereo mounts/bracket doodads from the Russian seller on eBay. You know what the speakers cost. You know what the radio mount costs...before the shipping. Filed down slightly on one side to make it fit, you will probably still need ...

Re: reverse handle would not come down.

Had this happen in a slightly busy intersection in Helen, GA this past Thursday. I was pulling my empty trailer (150# worth of weight) so it wasn't overloaded...but it was on a slight slope. Would NOT move forward, back, start et.al. Ended up kicking the lever down with the heel of my boot to get it...

Outside of a license plate, we're ready to roll.
Been to 83mph, little vibration in the bars but no hands off wobble. Forgot to add in the balancing beads in the tires. That'll get done this weekend when the new lug nuts come in.

That is one sweet trailer or tiny house. Looks like you used all the skills they taught me in the Navy and aircraft maintance school to build that. Finally got around to uncovering this and doing some more work. Added the radio I'd originally bought for the bike. Installed it, wired it and was listening to it while I finished other things. Speakers store inside, but are on a long leash, and can be brought out the bottom of the trailer to sit un...

Was riding it until it stopped on me before I fixed it. It did, so I did. Luckily it did this in the driveway. The diaphragm was out of the groove around the outside edge. Finally got to a point where it wouldn't hold it open, thus killing the fuel supply. Stretched it back into place where it was s...

Pegs or boards...which hits first?

Not sure the brand of floorboards on the bike now, but they hit long before I feel they should. I'm coming from an 05 Kawasaki Concours, which is a good interim between a sport bike and a full on touring ride. Either this wing's boards hit way before pegs will, or I'm carrying a bit too much speed i...
