Re: Cleaning aluminum oem rims

Okay. Next time I get by Lowe's, I'll try to remember lacquer thinner and 4 aught steel wool. Thanks.

Re: Cleaning aluminum oem rims

The video with the wet/dry sandpaper was very convincing! I have a lot of nasty stick on wheel weight residue that is a real pain, does the sandpaper work well on that stuff?

Re: Cleaning aluminum oem rims

Tried cleaning mine with nearly everything in the shop. Nothing really worked like I was hoping it would.
I didn't try sandpaper. Next time I get motivated to get down there again, I'll try that. ;)

Re: The "had to lay 'er down" myth debunked

When the brakes are applied, front or rear, weight is transferred to the front wheel. Since I learned many years ago the front brake will not flip me over the handlebars, I reckon I've developed a nasty habit of grabbing the front brake first. :o The time or two I've had to stop in a hurry, and used...

Re: What's Happening Today?

Yesterday I rode over to Bull Shoals Lake here in northwest Arkansas just to ride the ferry boat. :D I rode Highway 125 on up into Missouri. Nice, clean, smooth road and crooked! Ran mostly 3 and 4 gear for quite a little spell. I didn't know the road and that's one reason I decided to take a ride o...

Re: The "had to lay 'er down" myth debunked

Just to play devils advocate I'm going to disagree. Maybe he's saying he "had to lay her down", because he wasn't paying attention like maybe he should of been. He " had to lay her down" because he was afraid to use the front brake. Afraid he'd flip over the handlebars. He "had to lay her down...

The wise man of the mountain once told me do things while you're young enough to enjoy it.
So I reckon as long as we're able to throw a leg over the saddle and enjoy the open highways we are "Young Guns"!

Re: USA, Mexico, Guatemala and Belize

Happy to hear you're not experiencing any of the "horrors" we are always being warned about. I do remember someone telling me, maybe 15 or 20 years ago, that the only problem areas were near the border and gangs in Mexico City were targeting tourists. The whole rest of the country was a good place t...

Re: USA, Mexico, Guatemala and Belize

I was curious about the same thing dingdong. So much of the information we get about other places comes from the news media and television and their slant and what they want us to know. Sadly, our news media is not a reliable source of information, but that's another story. They seem to be having a ...

Has your riding partner got a longer inseam yet? My son had one of those 250's not that many years ago. I can't imagine riding that all day long let alone on a multi-country trip. I know people do it but not any fat boys! Been to some of those places in Louisiana and Texas but still like seein...

Re: I couldn't TAKE it anymore!!

Thank you. The temperature was in the sixties and a lot of places saw seventy. I wore my light leather jacket as a "just in case" but it wasn't long before I had it unzipped. I rode one highway I didn't think I had ever been on before. Turns out I had rode a little of both ends, just not the m...

Re: I couldn't TAKE it anymore!!

Couldn't let another nice day slip by. Checked brakes, tires, oil and a couple small repairs, (plus the normal lights, horns, signals, brake lights etc.). Finally about 1:00 P.M. I took off. Rode through Eureka Springs without having to stop once. Didn't want to. Riding skills seemed to be just a bi...

Re: so what are we called

Its a Pride! :D Back in the late '80's I had stopped in New Mexico. I think it was Albuquerque but I could be wrong. I was riding my '82 Aspencade. I believe it was a Honda dealer I had stopped at when three later model Goldwings rode up. Each one had a little flag that said "Hells Old Geezers". I h...

Re: I couldn't TAKE it anymore!!

If I saw any of those bikes parked around here, I'd have to walk over and have a look-see at them. :D First one I rode was a '78, (I think, I've slept since then) it was all fitted out with the whole Vetter Windjammer fairing, bags and boot. A friend of mine brought it to my house because he didn't ...

Interesting. When a battery is being rapidly drawn down, like when using reverse, how low will the voltage have to drop before killing the engine?
Just curious. ;)

Re: Helmet mounted brake light

Before watching the video, I thought a helmet mounted brake light was just another gimmick someone had come up with to make a few bucks. Every rider with every electronic gizmo on the market, on his bike would have to have one. Then I watched the video and it appears that it might be a good idea, if...

Re: 1200 wont start

I was also wondering, since it had sat for so long, have you changed the timing belts?
And if you did that, since it does try to run at times, could the timing be off by just a little bit?
I'm just trying to think of things that might help a bit. I'm not a motorcycle mechanic.

Re: Irritating Product Reviews

I'm not familiar with the Klim brand at all and the Shoei helmets, well, I figured they'd still be up in the $300-$400 range. I just can't spend that much. I was looking for one less than $150. I got a Fly Tourist. Its more round than what I really wanted but there's less pressure on my forehead tha...

Re: 1200 wont start

I can't remember how the 1200's fuel system is laid out but since you're running fuel from a can, is there a place you can bypass the pump, filter and petcock and gravity feed fuel to your carbs? If it would run that way, you would narrow down where the problem lays. Like I said, I don't remember ho...

bstig60, sounds like you've got a great plan for Sunday. That's exactly what I need to do! As soon as it warms up again,...as soon as it warms up,...there's some maintenance I really need to do before taking a little ride. Oh well, warm weather's a coming. But it is amazing how much dust and dirt on...

Re: Rode my old goldwing Sunday

Got to go for a ride a couple weeks ago. It seems like whenever it warms up enough to go on a little ride, I'm needed by someone to do something I don't want to do to start with. Today was a good example. Warmed clear up to the mid 60's. A little windy but it is a motorcycle. But me and my truck got...
