Rebuilding my 1982 GL1100 Goldwing

Well, the time has come. I went to start my bike two weeks ago and the motor seized. I manually turned the motor backward, then tried again. It turned once and stopped. Charged the battery overnight, made sure oil was good and tried again the next day, same story. In a fit of desperation, I tried to...

Re: Need special tool for swingarm ASAP!

Thanks, another member mentioned a Park Tool FR6 from a bicycle shop that looks exactly like what I need.

Need special tool for swingarm ASAP!

Hi all! I have an '82 GL1100 that I need to remove the swing arm to get at the pulse generator/mechanical advance. I have the wheel off today, 12 APR, to replace the tire and now would be a great time to check the advance. Unfortunately it requires a special tool to remove the swing arm. Is there an...

Re: Average age ?

In the summer of 1982, I was 9 and went with my uncle to a Honda dealer where he was picking up his motorcycle, I don't even remember what bike he had; I do vividly remember seeing that year's GL1100 Goldwing. It was glorious! Big and powerful looking with removable suitcases (I was 9, remember). I ...

Re: Acceleration Trouble

Thanks for the advice Johnny. Unfortunately jamming a small bolt in the vacuum advance tube didn't help with my issue, it also did not make it worse. I'm kind of back to dreading pulling the pulse generator out and inspecting the mechanical advance.

Acceleration Trouble

I need help with an acceleration issue. Bit of a long story, but I think the setup is needed: A bit over a year ago I happened across a 1982 GL1100 that I got for $650 because the previous owner could not make it run. He claimed to have cleaned all the carbs and replaced the timing belts. According ...

Re: My first bike

In the summer of 1989, my brother brought home is 1969 Honda CB160 (the attached picture is representative, not mine). He and his friends had ran aviation fuel through it the night before. For $1 he gave it to me. Only one cylinder fired and both mufflers were burned out. I drove it around town on t...

Lost power between 3-4K rpm and again at 5500

image.jpeg This post will be a little long. I'm having a problem that I can't solve; not terribly new as I am far from a mechanic. My troubles began with the throttle. After starting, the bike will throttle up to 3000 rpm by itself regardless of any adjustments to the idle/mixture screw. To overcom...

Re: Electric vs mechanical fuel pump

Unfortunately, the loss of power occurs at both idle and while driving. Fortunately, if your patient, once it hits 5000RPM, it will easily get up to highway speeds, 75+.

Electric vs mechanical fuel pump

I am a new owner of a 1982 GL1100. The previous owner had installed an electric fuel pump when the original failed. I am unfamiliar with doing this to an older bike. I think I would prefer to replace the original, but don't know if this would be "going backward." The bike currently has a power fall-...
