Re: Starter problems

Rarely hear of this on a 1500, but try removing the sparkplugs and try the starter to see if the engine might be hydrolocked.

Hebert, Goodness, That's only the second one of them I've ever seen! You might try posting it in "Camping and Trailers" forum, too, for additional visibility. I seldom surf "For Sale/Wanted". For any potential buyers, This trailer has a nice long tongue, and mine pulls very well behind both the 1100...

Re: Adding a Trailer

See my post http://goldwingdocs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=38868#p265862 Are you using a 5-4 converter? They can make the lights dim. Turn signals blink fast on my 1100, too, to remedy I simply unplug the rear blinkers on the bike when the trailer is connected. Or you can change the flasher unit...

Re: Charging Question

Was the stator disconnected from the bike when you measured it to ground? If not, disconnect it and re-test. You can get reading to ground thru bike circuitry.

Re: Slight Hesitation Under Load in Gears 3/4

First off, Welcome to the site! :D Lots of good help around here! Fuel filter usually won't look "full" unless it's plugged, so I wouldn't worry about that. I'm not afraid to work on a carburetor but not an expert, either. My $.02 thinks if carburetor problem maybe sticky slides or faulty accel pump...

Re: Gasket set

Honda no longer sells a top-end gasket SET for 1100, but last I knew (2 yrs ago) OEM head gaskets, all the o-rings and the coolant tube elbow gaskets and rocker-cover seals are all still available individually. A few years ago I even got new seals for the rocker cover bolts... I haven't removed the ...

Re: Blnkers and Brake Light won't work 78 GL1000

With 12v on both sides of the brake light switch it just confirms you've lost a ground somewhere. The 12 volts is coming from your running lights power, which should light the bulb and go to ground. But with the ground missing, the voltage feeds thru the running light filament, misses ground and flo...

Re: trailer hitch

When I first got my trailer I tried a 5-4 converter on the 1100, and was immediately disappointed. It worked like it was supposed to, but the voltage drops thru the converter combining stop lights with turn signals resulted in brake lights and turn signals that really weren't much brighter than the ...

Re: MC Camper trailer tires are not good

Carlisle 4.80x8's on mine, from Discount Tire for about $50 each, they mounted 'em too. They said the wheels are too small for their spin-balancer so balance beads may be an option. Larger wheels/tires would be nice, but won't clear the wheel well without suspension mods of some sort. Trailer claims...

Always good to hear a glowing vendor report... With the name Rocky Mountain ATV I was kinda hoping they were local and had a shop that could mount tires! Re: Neutral switch plug

On my 1100 the Neutral switch is in a ridiculous location, pretty much impossible to get to the screw to disconnect the wire. Rather than mess with that I simply got out the wire cutters, and then soldered it back together when the engine was back in with new stator.

Re: BATTERY CELLS GOING DRY

Check the voltage at the battery with the bike running, rev it up to 2500 rpm and see what the voltage is. Should be around 13.5-14 volts, much over 14 volts I'd suspect trouble (bad regulator, or bad connection to it somewhere). Over-voltage can boil out a battery....

Re: 1995 GL1500 good deal?

I gave $4800 for my '93 Aspy last year, 44K miles, perfect running condition, tons of upgrades to the stereo, all the aftermarket "SE" add-on lighting, upgraded alternator. For the year the price was maybe a bit high, but for the condition and upgrades I thought it a good buy. And it was commensurat...

Wouldn't hurt to put a wrench to the rotor bolt and see if the engine turns over or not, who knows how long the carbs have been off or what might have gotten in there....

Re: Use of gears

I find myself looking at the OD light a lot, even in city driving. Easy and quick enough to downshift 2 or 3 gears if needed and the 1500 has plenty of torque, even at 1000 RPM. The 1100 protests a little if you put the gas to her under 2000 RPM, still good torque at low revs, but a lot of vibration...

I found 'Beck-Arnley Euro SF+ Concentrate' in the local auto parts store, 'Made in Germany', and specifically mentions no amines, nitrates, phosphates or silicates on the label. A little on the 'spendy' side (probably no more than Honda coolant though) but it looks like a product the GL1500 will be ...

Re: Poor radio Reception ????

Curt, Time to pull the radio shelter and disconnect the antenna lead from the radio. You can check the antenna mount and cable with an ohmmeter. Measure between the antenna rod and the center pin on the cable that plugs into the radio. That should read a short (very low ohms). Measure again between ...

Re: Top Speed

Years ago I let my 1100 stretch her legs on a lonely strip of interstate, I had to determine speed by the tach. The tach reads 4000 RPM at 60 mph, 5000 RPM at 75 mph so that's 15 mph for each 1000 RPM. I still had throttle left at 7500 RPM, and decided I was going fast enough. At 15mph per 1000 RPM,...

Re: Poor radio Reception ????

I had terrible radio reception until I figured how to work the CD changer and AUX input, it is connected to an FM modulator which interrupts the antenna, and you tune the FM to 88.7 to get CD or AUX. Turn the controller off and the radio reception returns.

Did somebody add a modulator to your radio?
