Re: Best replacement stator?

No, Gates belts are very good (I believe they are OEM Manufacturer, too)

NAPA and Amazon sell Gates. Cheaper from Amazon (like half price) as opposed to getting them over the counter at your local Auto Parts....

Re: Cornering light

You should NOT short the pins together if both filaments work as that will place a lot of extra load on the electrics. Gary Not only that, but the incandescent bulbs get hot enough to start melting plastic, even with just a single filament on. If you've done the "always on" mod, best to use LED. I ...

Re: GL 1000

Presumably the replacement starter was used.... Check the brushes, in these motors when the brushes are nearing end of life the starter motor will drag, and pulls an awful lot of current.

Re: 82 1100 Aspencade won't start - too much oil?

Too much oil in the crankcase wouldn't prevent the engine from turning over. Probably a hydrolock - Fluid in the combustion chamber won't compress. Pull the spark plugs, cover the sparkplug holes with a rag and then hit the starter. if there's fluid in one of the cylinders it will come shooting out,...

I've seen corrosion do strange things on battery connections even when they're tight, couldn't hurt to undo your battery connections, clean them up a little and reconnect..... A corroded battery connection often behaves like this.....

Re: Flushing my radiator; pieces of rubber coming out.

After changing head gaskets on 1100's a few times, I've noticed that the surfaces of the gaskets that are open to the water jackets tend to flake off, however this doesn't seem to affect the sealing areas of the gaskets that are sandwiched between the head and block. It may just be little pieces of ...

Re: !200 engine swap

I've heard of using 1100 or 1000 heads on a 1200 block, that would address the tach and fuel pump issue, and if the 1000 heads were used you could even stay with stock points ignition.

I don't know what other cans of worms the head swap might bring up, how about it, Gurus...

Hi-Jack (couldn't resist) This is a four channel amp (two stereo amps "A" and "B" in one box), with all filters set to "off" assumes you are going to use full-range speakers on all outputs (front on "A", rear on "B") The most common configuration for using a four channel amp is to set stereo a...

1985 Jeep Cherokee, not only is it a mix of metric and SAE, but many of the metric nuts/bolts are the odd-wad sizes 13, 15 and 16 mm....

Hmm- That's how I bought my 1100 in 2005, wanted the Vetter luggage and trunk for my 1000 and figured to just sell the bike again as parts. Well, the Vetter mounting frames didn't quite fit the 1000 by too much to adapt, So I thought I'd try to fire up the 1100 motor just to see what might happen. W...

Re: Alternator conversion kit.

Before you install your "found" alternator on the bike might not hurt to take it to the local auto parts and have them put it on the test jig, just to be sure. They'll usually do that for free. That way you won't have to take it back off.....

Water pump is kinda "spendy", especially if shipping one across the big pond. They don't fail very often, either. Check the bearings for slop, and if it feels reasonably good I'd just put her back together with the pump you have, and watch for: 1) drip of either oil or coolant from the water pump we...

Without looking at parts fiches either there's a lot of differences on '88,'89 compared to '90 - '00 wings, so I'd say the '88 probably not, the '90 probably will.

Re: Fouling plugs

Gas in the oil won't hurt anything while you are still working on the bike, it might even dissolve some gunk out of the crankcase while it is in there. But before you are ready to put the wing on the road for a drive I would drain and replace the oil with some really cheap oil, drive a short distanc...

The camshafts are the clue, I had heads machined without removing cams, so the fuel pump drive and ignition point drive were a dead giveaway. But if the cams were removed, since same part number both heads either cam should fit either head. So best guess at that point....

Considering the current price of high capacity hard disk drives, I keep nothing in the cloud. All my "good stuff" is constantly available on my home LAN, and is periodically backed up on more high capacity disk drives stored in the detached garage.
